Non- UK Voter : So the Conservative Party cut back spending on people and infrastructure. Then lined the pockets of their donors during Covid. And now criticize the Labour Party for trying to sort out their mess. I'd admire her for having balls if I thought she understood Starmer's position. But like all sociopaths, her narcissism doesn't allow for criticism.

They made everything a mess after 14 years and let the opposition do the unpopular things and clean up the mess, pretend it is none of their fault and they are for the people, wait until enough people forget the history then swoop back in and sh** on everyone all over again.

The tories did far worse when in power to those who need universal credit. Thousands driven into absolute poverty by the bedroom tax and the two child cap as well as many cuts to benefits as well as services. The number of food banks has rocketed because the need is so great. Pensioners are their core support and this speaks of vested interest.

Reality Check: I consider myself a typical working class pensioner here in South Yorkshire. I get the full state pension of over £1000 per four weeks, with this I get almost the same from my drop down private pension every month My wife gets almost the same. Mortgage has long since been paid off, we have no debt. We have two cars. We take a holiday every year. Our expenditure is considerably less that our income. My wife has the heating and hot water on all day and every day. We have never been so well off! I really don’t need any help paying for winter fuel. I prefer the money spent on the NHS etc.

It's way worse than that. The Tories inherited (AFTER the financial crisis) a growing economy. The Tories then introduced austerity (the means by which wealth was transferred from the poor to the already stinking rich), one of the results of austerity was over 300,000 AVOIDABLE deaths, and this was before Covid19!!!

The Conservatives used criminal policies to run their cruel UK Covid Conservative management of sick and dying patients! They failed to help elderly Covid patients in Care Homes by depriving them of oxygen, skilled Covid free healthcare workers, Covid free spaces to stay free of Covid, Deximethezone medicine, all of which directly led to the death of 180,000 Covid patients. Badenoch failed to insist on International Healthcare standards being implemented in UK Care Homes and through this practice of gross negligence manslaughter she deliberately contributed to the deaths of 180,000 Covid patients!

If the withdrawal of universal winter fuel payments results in hundreds of thousands of eligible pensioners signing up for pension credit that they are rightfully owed and getting the boost in quality of life that goes along with it then GOOD!
If that wipes out the saving? Can't say i care.
That sounds to me like the money being distributed to where it is most needed.
The Conservatives had 14 years to get that money into the hands of the poorest pensioners, but they failed to get it done.

I thought naively it would be relatively straight forward to move to Italy post Brexit only to discover that any other visa other than a spouse visa is almost impossible. Brexit means my qualifications obtained in the UK are worth nothing without complex accreditation in the EU member state if I want to work there, not to mention the damage particularly caused for small businesses in exporting to Europe. And when it comes to exporting between GB and NI, let’s not even go there as the DUP have done more for a unified Ireland than Sinn Fein in over 100 years.
