    The guy in the car park had right of way over you. His entire car was in the roundabout before you got to the give way. You shouldn't have entered the roundabout when the roundabout wasn't clear.

      The part of the highway code you must have forgotten about "watch out for all other road users already on the roundabout; be aware they may not be signalling correctly or at all
      look forward before moving off to make sure traffic in front has moved off.
      "

      @@ashley_neal I'm surprised, you are usually bang on point on these sorts of things. I've worked at a legal expenses firm for the past 12 years who has a contract with the largest driving instructor insurance scheme in the country. I've attended court on 100's of occasions on behalf of driving instructors. I guarantee you that if you would have clipped the rear of that vehicle after you entered the roundabout you would have been held 100% at fault I've attended court on this exact scenario on more than one occasion. You are completely wrong and pinning this chaps comment with a sarcastic (and misconstrued) response doesn't look well on you I must say.

    • @ashley_neal
      @ashley_neal  5 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      James Taylor no way in the world I would ever have ”clipped” the car so your point is irrelevant. When emerging with other people having priority you should never make them change any speed it direction. The car from the left obviously did this. If anyone were to do the same as the car from the left on their driving test they would most definitely fail. So now reassess your reply and try to understand the initial response given. If I don't correct certain poorly thought out comments, others may take this into a driving test thinking its acceptable. Thanks for adding to this post as it highlights to everyone not just to look at it from one’s own perspective. Ashley

    Is there a secret bin somewhere in test centres that I don't know of where they can throw their brain away once passed?

    Recently just passed when I drive I always show respect and due car to learners as I remember how nervous I was. I always keep in mind that it could be that persons first time on major roads. If they have a good instructor they will always do the right thing. Eg be in left lane to allow overtaking
    Not undertaking anyone to keep a safe environment. Also I keep in mind learners are learning the clutch.
    I approached a learner doing a parallel parking exercise, when I was doing mine people were just barging past me. I have stopped and waited 20 seconds and the learner parked up or in a safe enough space to allow me to pass.
    Think people forget they were a learner once!

    2:32 - I'm seeing numerous comments from people that in situations like this the Vauxhall was already on the roundabout and so it isn't an issue. My belief is to give way to vehicles approaching from the right. No idea where people are getting the other idea from.

    • @SurgeDashcam
      @SurgeDashcam 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dashcam Leicester While the give way to the right rule is largely used, it is actually not correct. The rule is "give way to vehicles already in the roundabout". However, there would have been no issues if the Astra didn't cut the roundabout. Basically, you should be slowing to a speed suitable enough to allow time for cars already on the roundabout to clear. Cammer in this situation had a suitable speed, and once again would have been fine if it wasn't for the corner cut.

      Obviously, when you are on the roundabout, you only have to look out for other vehicles that are also on the roundabout. We all passed our test hopefully, why do I always seem to need to be giving out information from the highway code that we should all know anyway?

    @Ashley Neal - Can I bring something to your attention?
    Re: FOG LIGHTS
    I see many people driving with fog lights on in many conditions other than FOG.
    I recently encountered one who drove past me with their front fogs on and when I turned onto the same road as them, they also had their REAR fogs on. They happened to be going where I was, so when we had both parked up, I informed them that they had got got both FRONT & REAR fogs on. Their reply was 'I KNOW'. I then informed them of the highway code, which stated that visibility has to be 100yds or less. They then said that 'it was raining', which it was, but only a light drizzle. I left them to it, I was totally bemused at their stupidity, if they deem driving conditions like that merit having BOTH front & rear fogs on, they must have VERY poor eyesight.
    I even phoned 101 to get their take on the use of fog lights and they informed me that, 'If a driver feels they need to drive with their fogs on, they are well within their rights to do so as the highway code is only ADVISORY'. I even informed them of the current weather conditions and they repeated what they had just told me. And, as luck would have it, I came across 2 'PCSO's' and proceeded to question them, which they told me, 'There's a police officer there', he had come to pick them up. I then repeated what I had told the 101 number and he basically said the same.
    So, my question is, why do we even bother with the highway code as driving in conditions other than in fog causes a danger to other road users as they can dazzle others and possibly cause an accident.
    Sorry, rant over.

      Hello Ashley.The point that I am trying to make is as follows.Your video clips are very good as they are informative.
      The lorries and buses that are jumping red lights have a different purpose of journey and they maybe under time
      pressures from their employers as I have family working in these driving positions.I ask my clients how they would
      deal with traffic lights when they are tired,under stress,driving late at night ,peer pressure from fellow passengers
      and having fellow passengers in the car who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.This is the bigger picture
      and dealing with the post test environment. This is what is meant by Higher order cognitive skills where a driver
      self reflects on a near miss and how they would overcome this when driving themselves with no input.

    How long should new drivers keep the 'P' on their car?
    I would assume that it would be 3 years as that is the length of time we are given the 'probationary period' where if we obtain 6 or more points we can loose our license!

    What does "elderly drivers" have to do with this video? Perhaps the cammer could tell the age of other drivers, but in most of the clips I could only see poor driving skills, not age of driver. One of the drivers, near the end, who started to turn right before changing his mind and going left, demonstrated the type of confusion we often associate with older drivers, but could be attributed also to unfamiliarity with the streets. The only clip where I could see the driver clearly, the final one, the woman driving hardly appeared elderly. Middle age, perhaps. Why call your videos what they apparently are not?

      It's called jumping to conclusions,admittedly the driving skills where a bit iffy,but to me it looked like they were out of their area and looking for an address....but hey! I guess all those ''perfect'' drivers out there don't have those sort of 'moments'....NOT!!

      I'm glad I'm not alone in asking the same question. It's a cheap shot, it's ageist and biased, and I wonder how elderly people get an HGV licence. Last time I heard (my brother had his HGV class 3) HGV drivers over a certain age were subjected to an annual physical fitness examination, so I was surprised see that obviously elderly driver in the artic, jumping a red light, or the two clearly elderly gents, duking it out in their company vans. Then of course, the elderly youth in the little silver car with the windows blacked out, so obviously elderly, and driving like a brain dead tit en route to his first date, with a promise for that night. . .

    Hello Ashley.None of those drivers that you are talking about are actually doing a driving test.There could be multiple reasons why
    that silver car is going so slowly ,I do not know why that's happening as that's being too judgemental. Driving instructors are far too
    test focused and not talking about real world driving.

      There's no such thing as "real world driving" there's driving obeying the highway code and then there's driving disobeying the highway code. Yes most people pick and choose what bits to follow but obviously a driving instructor must teach driving to the highway code 100% of the time.

    Well, I take exception to the title of this video, either that or you have a lot of active and busy elderly drivers, running red lights in articulated lorries, and plying their trade in signed-up business vans. I was surprised to see the granny/grandad in the little silver Peugeot? with blacked out windows. It'll be Hell's grannies next, on Harley Davidsons! I was amazed at the absence of young and middle aged drivers in this video! - Apart from the one who coughed at the roundabout!
    Okay, so you were there and had first hand sight of "some"of the drivers whose driving you highlighted, but where is the evidence they were all elderly drivers? - Or are you simply ageist and biased?
    No, I'm not an elderly driver, not yet for a while, but I see no reason to pick on a small segment of society, when in reality, there was only one driver in the video who actually looked like she was an elderly lady.
    Sorry Ashley, I like your videos, but this one was a cheap shot at older people, and was uncalled for!

    • @ashley_neal
      @ashley_neal  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There was nothing in this video that is any way derogatory towards older people. Being a good driver is all about being a pessimist and thinking of the worst that could happen. Have you seen my other Driving Fail videos named "The stereotypes" or "So-called professionals"? These videos are also highlighting potential dangers on the road that you need to look out for, by focusing on a specific group of drivers. There are also many others.
      It is also really interesting of your previous comments on my mobile phone video (th-cam.com/video/Rc-bu7A30UA/w-d-xo.html), you have been quite derogatory towards a specific class of road user.
      These are your words:-
      "Cyclists (so called cyclists, whom I differentiate from the few sensible riders) are, in my eyes, the worst offenders of all. Teenage gibbons in the main, who ride with no hands on the handlebars, earplugs blocking out the real world, eyes fixed on the phone, totally oblivious to what's going on around them, and barrelling headlong into a junction, or roundabout without a care in the world, but when they stack it into the side of your motor, it's you who is cautioned and breathalysed, whilst the gibbon gets an ambulance ride to A&E at taxpayers' expense."
      One thing I have always done and will always continue to do, is always look at myself rather than point the finger. In this instance however I would like to ask you a question. You asked me whether I was simply ageist and biased; My answer is categorically no. What is your answer to your own question?
      Kind regards
      Ashley
