Kris, your videos are always just right. Some of your larger machines look look like they would have quite a history to them. Like they were turning out products for the war effort in the 40's. Thank you for taking the time to show us your tools and wonderful shop.
Thanks a million for the tour! I'm in the early stages of planning my new workshop (hope to start building it in the next 6-12 months) so I'm looking at as many different setups as I can. Yours rates as one of the best I've seen so far. Thanks again!
Matt Ward thank you very much!! theres atleast 2 people that dont like it...lol, but i know i sure do!! im out here 7 days a week rebuilding engines, doing machining, selling grease n oil, hardware, making hyd hoses! i love it!!! You're doing the right thing, look at as many as you can, take your time, learn, get ideas and use that to build the perfect shop for you!! Good luck and happy shopping!!
That is really a nice shop. I hope that once I get my new shop going I will be able to keep mine so clean by not already having a full building before i ever even started moving machines in. That is a lot of 5.9 rods in one pile!
thank you!! the company i build for sent those rods, they want them re-bushed and honed, but i cant find a tapered driver to r/r the bushing so i started building one, but ive been so busy with cyl heads and engines i havent had time to finish it.
Kris Morse 5.9's certainly aren't the throw away motor that the 3116 and 3126Cats are but they borderline on being worth rebuilding vs buying a good dyno salvage engine. At least that arbor press will make quick work or R&R;ing them after you get the driver made. I know all about that busy thing, it gets in the way but it pays the bills!
I like a clean shop. This may sound old fashioned but I believe you can tell a lot about a fella and the condition of his shop and the tools. Your tool tour made me green and your shop is in outstanding condition Whats the kicker about your shop and tools is its a working shop in mint condition Respect where its due sir your equipment is 1st class UK Darren
I got some nifty improvements and ideas from your video. Thank you for the tour and you have a really impressive and clean shop. Where did you find your machining equipment? I’d like to get an old Bridgeport lathe without paying an arm and leg. Any suggestions?
Kris Morse yes our shops could always be bigger that's true, just have to keep them clean and organized like you do.as for the one dislike don't take it to heart, some other videos just as good as your video had more. Thanks again!
Thank you! I figured the weakest link was the casters so I added up their capacity and used that for my limit since the rest is overbuilt. Sofar I've had 8,600 lbs hanging on it and when it was there, I climbed up with a ladder, used a straightedge and a .0015 feeler gauge to see if the beam flexed and it did not.
thank you. i get teased alot because i try to keep it as clean as i can, everyone thinks because "its just a shop" that it dont matter, but it matters to me, im the one that has to work there!
Kris, I got a 4620, it needs some transmission work, Jumps out of the gear that i pull the 24 foot field cultivator in,i haven't farmed for 12 years, the motor is rock solid. You want to do that next winter ?
Kris Morse I have the same press and am definitely gonna be looking into the jack set up you showed. harbor freight is good if you know what to look for 👍
Kris Morse if you want I have a quick shop tour on my channel as well. I'm gonna check out a few more of your videos this is the second one I watched. first was the snap on box tour, very impressive!!
Do you have any plans on your crane? Or a video when your crane. Been thinking about build one for myself. Didn't know maybe if you bought them offline or what? Awesome shop by the way
Thank you! It was for business but I out grew it, so I moved my business to an industrial park and now this shop will go back to my personal shop for working on my tractors.
Very nice shop and tool box. If you don't mind me asking, where are you located? You don't have to tell the exact city, but what state and general region of the state. I'm a JD guy as well.
thats what that head mill is built for, heads, blocks and manifolds. you can do some work on the Bridgeport but your so limited on length. i can put a 3 foot cyl head on the head mill and cut it with no issues
Nice shop man!! For real though.. How in the hell do you remember how all of that goes back together? And don't give me that take a picture bull crap lol
thank you! as for the tractor, 1. i have a bit of a photographic memory, 2. ive been working on tractors for 29 years, and 3. if i get in a pinch if you notice above the toolboxes theres a long shelf of manuals. i have one for most makes and models.
+Wes Johnson of course i know the size, i built it. its a 10" beam on 1/2" plates on 4"x6"x1/4" wall uprights with 4"x4"x1/4" gussets on 8" beams plated on the ends with sold cast iron rubber coated wheels that hold 2700 lbs each. ive already hung approximately 8000 lbs on it with a 3 ton trolley and chainfall from harbor freight. Though i am extremely surprised the hook held up due to the 3.2 ton rating on it, it did just fine, even got the ladder out, went up with one of my straight edges for checking blocks and heads and a .0015 feeler gauge and it would not slide under so i think it will be ok.
Typical crane beams have a 5:1 safety factor on stress. Yours is 3:1. But, if it's just you using it and no OSHA it should be fine. I don't envy you cranking up 5 tons by hand though. Like I said, cool shop.

Mark Stewart thank you! the lathe is 1941 and the bridgeport is 1942.

tomycodd thank you!!! ....but, theres atleast two people that don't like it, lol
Great shop. Could you talk a little more about the lighting and floor treatment. I like your set up.
David Harris thank you. lights are standard 8' 2 bulb fluorescent lights and there is no floor treatment, its just poured concrete
I really like you're Crane. How did you determine the 5 ton capacity?
Thank you!
I figured the weakest link was the casters so I added up their capacity and used that for my limit since the rest is overbuilt.

Marsh Monster hi, thank you!! i did not have plans to go by, just made it as i went to fit the area it would operate in.
Very sanitary shop brother....I could roll my boxes in there and go straight to work....mad props!!
johnnyshreddz thank you!
Nice clean shop. Do you use the shop for hobby work or for a business?
Jason Bertrand thank you! im in mid-michigan
Very nice shop tour.
Thank you!!
I'm surprised that head mill is rigid enough. Can you do work like that on the Bridgeport?
thats what that head mill is built for, heads, blocks and manifolds. you can do some work on the Bridgeport but your so limited on length. i can put a 3 foot cyl head on the head mill and cut it with no issues
Awesome shop!

i work by myself the majority of the time.
The snap rings on those quad range transmissions are a pain!
yes they are, i love John Deere but i hate working on the transmissions
The three driveshafts have to be installed in a specific order too, I learned that the hard way!
+slowride55 yes they do!
Very nice.
Big River thank you!!
Amazing shop man
thank you!!
IT gave me some inspirtiaion for my new shop
+Tim Pettersson id like a bigger shop but then i would have to hire help, not sure if i want to go that far
Where did you get your Valve grinder
+Tim Pettersson bought it from a guy that was getting out of the business
Cool shop. No way that gantry is safe for 5 tons.
thank you, why do you say that about the chainfall frame?
Just from the size of the beam. Do you know the S size? I can do a quick calculation.
+Wes Johnson if you look at my "John Deere 4620 video, you will see the tractor half hanging from it
Typical crane beams have a 5:1 safety factor on stress. Yours is 3:1. But, if it's just you using it and no OSHA it should be fine. I don't envy you cranking up 5 tons by hand though.
