  • Me, Bill Livolsi, Jimmy Diresta, Daniel Switch and Lever, Laura Kampf and April Wilkerson went to have dinner at Mike Dubno house in Manhattan. One minute from Central Park where he has this awesome shop in his basement with all you can think of.
    This visit has been really inspiring for me and since I had a camera I decided to release this experience to all of you.
    I hope this will be inspiring you too... :)
    Have a great one.

    Interesting get together. I love how the stories arise as you journey through. Our shops have so many tales to tell.
    I met Mike when we were at Maker Faire NY . and he is a genuine fella.

      +Greg's Garage You figured out what was in his ipad cover didn't you?

    • @GregsGarage
      @GregsGarage 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it was a calendar. I want to say it could predict a huge number of solar and celestial events... Eclipses, moon phases, comets, etc. I saw it for the planetary gear setup that it had. It was pretty amazing to think it was developed a couple thousand years ago.

    • @GiacoWhatever

      A What.... oh heck, I've got way too much to get done. Normally I stick with electronics and metal, but Jimmy Diresta inspired me to get back to doing a little wood working.

    • @GregsGarage
      @GregsGarage 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Something like that Bill. It was a set of two sided planetary (no pun intended) gears that tracked all kinds of stuff.

    Thanks for the shop tour.
    Really love your videos Giaco.

    • @Dloweification
      @Dloweification 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it'll take longer to get ALL of the stuff he has, and you'll have less time to work on concepts or other cool projects, but that doesn't mean it's unattainable. Some people are makers and spend their money making things or acquiring the tools to make things, some people are consumers and spend their money on things that have already been made, and other people are parents and spend their money on kids. A lucky few get to be all three, or even two.

    • @ecrusch
      @ecrusch 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously, family comes first. But I have a small woodworking shop and a few metal working tools. And my time out there is always fun.
      It would be a lot of fun to have a shop like this gentleman. I bet he really enjoys the time he spends there too.

    Mike is a very interesting person, cool projects. I was fortunate to visit his shop in the summer of 2016 and that light thing was an interesting concept he already had working. We had a common interest, Arduinos. Very nice shop, a bit tight in space, but very well organized. If you point to anything in that shop, Mike will tell you a story about it, its as if every little ounce within his shop is part of his heart and soul. A very nice person to know indeed. His dad was my patent attorney in 1998-2000.

    Michael Dubno served as Chief Technology Officer for Goldman Sachs for 20 years. During his tenure with Goldman
    Sachs he was the Architect and Chief developer for key systems including their first program trading system, the primary and derivative system, time series analysis systems, and investment research systems.
    Michael also previously served as CIO Global Markets at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and Chairman of NYC NJ First.
    In 2001, he founded Gadgetoff, an annual invitation only event that takes place in New York City. Gadgetoff is a celebration of technical and artistic innovation and an intellectual salon of the future.
