  • Infrared sensors emit light to detect certain aspects of their surroundings. Infrared sensors can detect motion as well as measure the heat of an object.
    It is now common to use IR sensors in motion detectors to switch on lamps in buildings or to detect guests in alarm systems.
    The sensor includes an IR transmitter LED and an IR sensing LED. It can be made in a variety of ways, but we will use an LM358 comparator IC to make it. There are two Operational Amplifier ports on this IC. We will use only one side since we need to perform a single-side sensing task. There are three pins available in each port of this IC, namely a non-inverting terminal PIN 2, an inverting terminal PIN 3, and an output pin 1.
    The output will provide a voltage output when the voltage at the non-inverting terminal is higher than the voltage at the inverting terminal.
