I had an ID and now have a Tesla…… the VW ID travel assist is light years ahead of Tesla Autopilot, which in all forms apart from full self drive is awful. The VW version of assisted driving is far more advanced, safe and relaxing to drive with. My Tesla , like all Teslas, cannot cope with a car/truck/bus in the lane next to you moving at all in the position it’s in in it’s lane, in panics. On many many occasions it’s slammed the brakes on full in the fast lane which means driving with it on is mentally draining. The vw on the other hand is much better and I never suffered a phantom braking incident once in three years /93k miles. This is why I’m going back to VW group because for high distance drivers like me there’s nothing close. Rsymons EV, a used Tesla dealer, even made a video asking why Tesla can’t match the vw system with a demonstration of where it’s inferior to the vw
RV Simmonds (an EV garage) has recently posted a video comparing an ID.4, Tesla and BMW driving assistance systems, and he reached the same conclusion : the only advantage of the Tesla is that it stops at red lights, but the VW system is much more relaxing to use (which is what it should be). Just one question, how tolerant was your VW re: keeping the hands on the steering wheel and pretending to drive ? I have a Lexus and she doesn’t like my grip.
@ the vw I had had capacitive sensors, so just having your hand or hands on wheel was enough. Didn’t need to hold on like you were gripping a rock face 😂 the Tesla however you need to put pressure on the steering wheel so it knows you are trying to turn the wheel along with the car doing it….. dont do it enough, the system disengages, do it tiny bit too much and the system disengages. Also the Tesla insists on being exactly in the middle of the lane, but I prefer to sit slightly to the right of the lane (uk car we drive on the left) , the VW would allow this and still let you use travel assist, the Tesla however will aggressively pull you back across and it’s a bit unsettling.
@AlanTov and giving money to a company that has Hitler are one of their founding members is better ?🤣 absolute nonsense comment about Musk, you do know he doesn’t actually build them 🤦♂️ you buy the car not the political point of view
That's really interesting to hear. The last time I drove a Model 3 I remember being blown away by the automated driving, but that was in 2022, and it was probably the first time I'd experienced anything like it. VW's system certainly has its quirks, but I've grown to love it
You're absolutely right. It takes 26 minutes to get to 80%. But after 4 hours of driving at 70mph on the motorway, I'll stop for 30+ mins, I'll plug in, have a piss, then something to eat. That probably all takes around 30 mins strangely enough. So I've not waited. Petrol on the other hand, sure in 5-10 and you're done. But if you want that same 30 minute break to get a coffee and something to eat, you've now stopped for 40 mins. This EV is now 10 mins ahead. I'll be able to do another 250-300 miles because of the charge, before I have to stop again and I can guarantee after that coffee I'm probably stopping after 210 miles for another piss. Plug in, piss, unplug go. 10-15 mins and I'll have added a whole bunch of range. I doubt I'll want to drive another few hours. So if I am not already at my destination, I'll find a hotel with a slow charger and wake up in the morning with a full tank. Zero. Time. Lost. Sure. Many petrol cars can do 600-800 miles easily, you may not want thosr breaks above. So you're 40 mins ahead. Well done. You peed in the bottle and saved 40 mins by dangerously driving for too many hours. Petrol may be faster, but electric is a safer easier drive.
The difference is you have to stand there like a neanderthal when filling diesel, whereas I can plug-in, walk into the services and grab some lunch, take a leak, and be charged up for my onward journey - and at a fraction of the price!
The inside of that particular car shouts of 'economy spec'. VW base spec seats are always vile and will show all the dirt really quickly. I presume they will offer leather and GTI style premium trims as well?
Not sure about the leather or GTI spec. It seems uncommon to get real leather in electric cars these days. But I actually really liked the interior, I have to say.
I doubt most families could afford £60000 to purchase this car.and what will it be worth in 3 years time. How can you describe this car as luxury when the screen stuck on the dash looks like an after thought.VW have done this with every ev they’ve launched.I understand why Kia and Hyundai are stealing market share,You need to use the tablet to adjust fan speeds, how do you do this safely whilst driving. Then it has all these unnecessary drive assists that add cost to the vehicle.
@Alessandro--- no, i mean it doesn't offer anything worth 60k. Compare it to the Xiaomi SU7. Compare it to any Zeeker. Better range, faster charging, and don't even want to start about the looks, especially inside. All of them are cheaper on top of that. European car manufacturers need to pick up their game and fast.
This is the single only argument I can see for not buying a new EV. Lease or cheap second hand. Because technology is moving so fast. It'll probably be a decade before we get a set of batteries that won't change much. Or better yet battery swapping becomes normalised. You buy the chassis and rent the battery month to month - want small city battery as you'll be doing little driving, or swap it out for a long range touring battery. I hope that's the future.

I mean who in their right mind wants to give Musk their money anyway....
VW's system certainly has its quirks, but I've grown to love it
Brilliant. Now just make it small enough to fit in a parking space. Apart from a few more miles range my second hand iPace is still better.
Very cool!
But does it still have the shitty touch controls? (Looks like it yuk)
Autonomous driving is second best to Tesla? You havent experienced the Tesla's schizophrenic phantom braking yet then?
Road tax is on its way to electric cars soon and the London congestion charge is coming to evs soon
Mine is arriving around 17th December. Went from a Model Y (good car) to a 2019 Audi ETron (terrible car) - Can’t wait
It'll be worth the wait!
Depreciation at its BEST !!! 😂😂
Then there's great lease deals.
@@Andyschannel-ph9sw who is still buying cars for cash anyway…
Tesla y every day of the week, twice on a sunday
nobody cares.
@@SzaszaG1 the new model Y is out … and looks great - maybe if Musk was ousted we could still enjoy the cars …
Not as fast as filling a diesel is it ? 😮😮😮
My EV takes seconds to ‘fill’ I plug it in and go inside my house. Hardly long at all?
@@Electroheads well it's probably close to double the cost if you're fast charging at a motorway service. Cheaper at home though!
@Electroheads I love electric vehicles, but range anxiety is a very real problem, plus it's much more expensive to insure
No, most families would simply lease it for a monthly price, like most people do these days!
What a nice car!❤ I will sell my Elon Horrible Musk car, can not support him with another Tesla. This might be my next choice!
Tesla is what everyone has been waiting for.
Which is why its the most sold car in the world for the past years :)
Not VW
Very cool!
If only it didn't have Volkswagen as software. If only Tesla, Polestar/Volvo, Rivian made such a car. All others just have shit software
How's married life?
Isn’t that why Richard got this gig while Eilis is hiking on a remote island ?
Looks like a car from the past compared to Chinese cars unfortunately. Especially in interior and features.
You mean it doesn’t look like a toy?
@Alessandro--- no, i mean it doesn't offer anything worth 60k. Compare it to the Xiaomi SU7. Compare it to any Zeeker. Better range, faster charging, and don't even want to start about the looks, especially inside. All of them are cheaper on top of that. European car manufacturers need to pick up their game and fast.
says the Chinese bot.
@@TTTT-oc4eb yeah, sure. 3 VW cars so far for me and still driving my last one btw.
@@theApe-X Sure you are...
I have no faith in VW
But it looks awful from the outside...
I quite like it :)
Just to boring in everyway
Way too expensive, especially when in just a year or so the batteries it uses will be thoroughly outdated massively reducing the value of the car!
Most people lease at this price.
You are looking at 5 years before solid state batteries and probably 7 or 8 even 10 before they price stabilise.
@ Not true!
Tesla is ready for fully automatic driving
Who on earth wants to drive a Musk mobile? An embarrassment on wheels.
Du bist ready for Anstalt
Great channel! We need more like this
