Sucks that the explosive tip doesn't do damage to vehicles, and it sucks that the arrows don't stick into walls and stay for a few seconds. If they fixed those two issues this would be perfect, but hey, it's still awesome.
This may be fixed in future.
this can be changed its not too hard for dice (i think) to make the arrow be able to stay in walls and for the explosive arrow they did something like with the crossbow in bf3
I can already imagine people gunning down jets with the bow, that'd be awesome to see
It takes too much data for the arrow to just stay there, complicated to explain but I would understand why it's very hard to do in multiplayer

No, it's a fairly common thing amongst archers. You're supposed to let the bow "jump" after the shot so you don't torque it.
ACapricousEndeavour and you would also have a sling around your wrist or around your fingers, i know this because i am a compound shooter in field archery and comps
It's more accurate and the bow's draw back poundage, usually 60-65 pounds, is holding it.
put it this way, if you were trained to shoot a compound bow properly you certainly would not hold the bow that way. i could spend several hours on just teaching you how to hold a bow properly, ie bone on bone contact points and having your hand in the same position every single time and on and on
spankthemunkey1 yeah, competition shooters would usually have finger slings. You can also approximate it a bit by using your thumb and forefinger as the sling but that obviously doesn't work quite as well
First person model and animation are very accurate. Whoever trained these soldiers to fire a bow clearly trained them well. Dice put a lot of effort into making sure that the player uses proper form, in the first person animations at least.
Okay if they want it to take up the primary slot then they need to buff the hell out of this.
1) General increase in reload speed,distance,accuracy.
2) The ability to swap arrows on the fly.
3) Explosive bolt needs to do major damage to small vehicles like jeeps,jet skis,hovercraft, etc. Medium damage to the scout heli and Rhib, and insignificant damage to heavy vehicles. Also better and more consistent to vehicles.
4) Add back the scan bolt but make it actually functionally. A tugs you could shoot into a horde of enemies form 100+ meters away is a great bolt. Basically a better long range motion ball.
5) A couple attachments such as a range finder, different scopes, etc. A way to tailor your bow for close, long, and medium range. Would be great to have a bow with a rds,laser sight, and a way to shiver quickly for close range, and a bow with an 6x,range finder, and a stabilizer for long range.
What do you think guys? If they don't want to buff this and give me a reason to swap an AR for it then this needs to be a gadget or secondary.

When I played tdm on hangar 21 today, I discovered red text (i guess it is Russian) that might have something to do with the phantom assignment.
You can find it at the upper level of the tdm map in hangar 21 a (command centre) building with some computers and the text is at the almost square pillar thing in the middle of the 'building'. You can read half the red text without a light equipped on your gun. But round the 2nd corner the text continues in the shadow and you will need a light to see that part of the text. Its kinda like the text on the paracel storm tower but its half-revealed. I hope this will help you!
I love how people are talking about how the firing animation is unrealistic when they have never even fired a compound bow before. This is exactly how you shoot, just normally with a wrist strap.

I just wanted to say that it's normal that the soldier opens his left hand while shooting the bow. It's a technique that all professional archers use to make sure they don't give the arrow deviation when releasing the arrow.
I'm an archer myself so I can now (not proffesional but I have been shooting for 5 years now :p).

When aiming the Character holds it perfecty as he should, the sound is dead on to my own Compound bow, and it is just perfect. Well done on the animation and modelling Dice! :)

An explosive that size would have an effect similar to that of throwing a can of beans. It could a person, but nowhere near as much as the arrow itself. Also, Jeeps and helis have armour, enough armour as to not give a shit about the explosive.
Explosive tipped arrows would be inneffective and very prone to premature detonation IRL, so it only makes sense that they are shite in the game too!
I still think that it's kinda bull how the explosive arrow does *no* damage to vehicles. I was looking forward to doing some serious damage with it :(

Suppose it's like shotgun frags. Good for suppression or sneaking a splash kill on someone who's hiding around a corner or behind something. Beyond that it's not too great.
Maybe for people who can't aim ^^

***** By the time you've unlocked the bow, logic entails that the person already has enough skill to properly move his mouse. The explosive radius isn't even that big, so you'd still need to be "spot-on" to inflict optimal damage. I still don't see any use besides going full on Rambo, lol.

Love the bow in general, but that its a primary i hate that. I wanted this to be like the xbow in bf3 this is only gonna be effective on close combat maps. Coz its almost imposible to get long headshots (or even kills) so im a little sad now :(

You obviously never played with or mastered using a bow. 2 second to reload your bow? That was me when i was in preschool. Stop with the insult, seriously, cause i just want the reload speed to be faster just by half a second at least.
For a bow that is incredibly fast already, what exactly are you after? might aswell use a gun.....

2 second reload on the bow is fast? Look, if it takes you 2 whole seconds to put a stick right next to another stick, i see that as a problem. I know its a bit more complicated than that, but trust me, it does not take more than 1 second to string a bow, without drawing it. Also, if you miss the shot, you have to take 2 whole seconds to reload it, while you are getting sprayed. Also, remember that this is a primary.
Go and watch the pros shooting a bow then get back to me, you obviously have no idea how bows work.
Its a primary, so what? Its your choice to use it, its pretty much a manual sniper with a 1hk to pretty far out, its balanced with the reload which also happens to be accurate man.
In a real life war where you run the risk of being shot in the face, you're more likely thinking about that than trying to beat your fastest time drawing your bow. And also, I'm fairly sure soldiers don't get allot of training using a bow, so stfu.

Also, way higher minimum damage, way longer damage dropoff start. The second is probably the most important of the two reasons, because it means you can body shot someone from a pretty serious distance. But, the first reason is really important too, because it means that, no matter what, the enemy's gonna have 12 or lower HP left at the end of the fight.
It's still gonna be out matched by most everything, though. It'll take a lot of skill to use it. I can't wait.

lets hope they dont nerf it, the damage is realistic compared to firearms arrows/bolts penetrade even the biggest armor vest. same goes for AP ammunition or 50.cal but i was just talking about regular ammo.
I have to say, his technique actually looks good. I need views from his back to confirm but it's not bad at all seriously. I used to do something similar with my hands when drawing my bow to reduce risks of moving the bow sideways and thus reduce accuracy.
On to the easter egg phantom password search! Seriously my favorite part of BF4.

Maybe you unlock the bow when you type correct password to final phantom assignment phase? And the assignment is to kill 200 guys with the bow and get 50 headshots with it
If someone is using the defensive perk, does the bow still kills in one shot on the chest?

Hey jack i don't know but if you go on naval strike and look at the ships there is a light blinking ( use a xm25 or a night vision sight ) and don't they use that in the navy to signal other ships. But I was wondering if it might be a part for the last phantom program.
I wanna see someone get in 64 player servers, conquest on golmud, and have one team run across the field with the bipod knife and the other team stationary at the other end using only the bow. Then all the knife guys would see would be just a rain of arrows. Maybe force the archers to use explosive bolts as a nerf ( they start out really far apart ).

if you were to put an encased napalm behind the explosive tip i believe it would be a lot more effective and add an awesome fire splash or AOE damage which would be effective for blocking off areas of interest. the only downside i could see to this would be that defending objectives in certain modes would be easier and attacking would be damn near impossible unless you added a fire res. suit that an engineer could wear that would also add a small defense boost against explosions... dip dip potato chip :)
also i believe you should make it to where you can replace a gadget with the ability to interchange between arrow types and customize your quiver to hold the amount of certain bolts/arrows as desired

This is all sweet and stuff, but since it does 100 dmg max it's one shot kill potential is negated by the Defensive perk. Combine that with a 2 sec reload,slow ROF and draw time and you will have the ultimate death sentence
its doubtful ti will be negated by the defensive perk. i mean it shouldnt do anything to snipers but hey dice thinks so.

I think a automatic sidearm is good for the bow since it takes 2 seconds to reload.

That's no ordinary bow....
I could not gave had more fun with the cross bow in bf3. Me and a bud would tank hunt with them, on top of that the explosive tip helped alert if you were in a pinch against a good little bird pilot. Kind of sucks you can't do the same in bf4

They should really get rid of the bullet trail on the bow. First, arrows don't leave trails, second, it gives you away.
