- Edge of Sanity is probably one of the most overlooked Swedish death metal acts. They never made it to the same level of success as bands like Entombed, Hypocrisy and Dismember, yet included more complex and progressive elements in their music than many others in the "same genre".
With this "too lengthy" worst to best video Jerry talks about the band's discography and rates them from "worst to best".

Swanö is a genious, at their best Edge of Sanity are just unbeatable. Of course there are some weaker tracks and albums, but overall really damn good band.
If one is not allergic to softer stuff (AOR, hard rock, etc.) Nightingale is definitelly worth checking out. Might be my favourite band from mister Swanö.
i used to be a big edge of sanity fan when i was teenager and i found out about nightingale because of them. For some reason ive been listening much more to nightingale in the later years. Dan swanö is one of the greatest metal vocalists imo. He can do so many different styles very good.
Crimson is my favorite, I would even say it's one of my all time favorites. I really love Dan Swano's contributions to metal overall
I was listening to a podcast with Swanö recently and he wrote and recorded Crimson in about three days. The guy is just a genius.

I don't really listen to Melodic Death Metal, so I haven't listened Edge of Sanity enough to make my own list. Still I really appreciate and respect Swanö's producer and engineer side. He really made big contributions to create a sound and introducing new bands (back in the days). Really good video!

That rating on Crimson II is surprising. My friends used to shit on that album. Didn't know it was so well liked.
Purgatory Afterglow > Unorthodox > Crimson = Crimson II
Everything other album shifts around in placement for me, but these 4 are my favorites. Sick video!

still one of my favorite bands and recently got their "relevant" albums on vinyl Dan Swanö along with his bandmates were genius
for me the ranking would be crimson > moontower (ik it's a solo project but way too good to ignore) => crimson 2 > purgatory afterglow > the spectral sorrows > nothing but death remains > cryptic > unorthodox (don't get the love for this) > infernal
I gotta say I'm surprised you'd rate Cryptic over those two. Infernal is definitely a lukewarm album but worse than Cryptic? I'm a bit puzzled about this - not to mention Unorthodox. But that's the beauty of ranking things that each individual have different tastes :)
haha you are right now that I looked at other comments I might need to spin Unorthodox and Cryptic once again, my ranking might me weird because idk about other metal-archives or rym users but I rank albums on overall impression like do I remember any of these melodies or did I enjoy most of it. For example I don't remember getting bored of NBDR and Cryptic but I certainlyndon't remember 90% of the album
For Infernal, I never had a good experience with it. First time listening to it I was shocked that they allowed such an inconsistent album to be released and listening to it a few more times couldn't make that first impression go away. I'm going to check their discography again for sure

At some point yes. But currently I focus on disbanded bands.
Crimson 2 is by far the best album. I dont understand the hate on it. Not only do it think its best by far.. Its one of those albums i could listen to anytime anywhere. One of my favs of all time. Its even become comforting to me to just have as background music. The riffs are so sick and soo much better than any others. Again i really dont understand how ppl think its lower than the others.

100% on Purgatory Afterglow. It's a special album which has stood the test of time. I also think the most impressive aspect of Edge of Sanity is that they never used any double bass. Probably left more room for that amazing guitar tone and vocals.
I think you're right about Crimson II. It was my first Edge of Sanity album, so I kind of worshipped it for long time. But if I had to logically compare Crimon vs Crimson II - the first is obviously better. Although Crimson II is quite sentimental hehe.
Yeah, can't fight sentimental values or nostalgia if one has those. For me that sentimental album would be PA, which is my first (aka "after discovery") EoS album back in 1994 or so.
