  • What a band wants to and can do and play can vastly differ from the hopes and dreams of a fan or audience. Let's talk about expectations and realities.

Some people really exaggerate with beeing a fan. They often think the band has to owe them stuff which is not true of course. For me it's enough when I see the band live or if the band has created nice music that I like. The rest is bonus

I wish Thy Primordial would come together again and perform some exclusive live shows

    Hi Jerry!
To be honest I would like to see Marduk playing more old stuff and hopefully I will see that next Monday.

Hey my man. How are you doing ?
A very complex but a very interesting subject to deal with.
I'd say band expectations and fan expectations are 2 different worlds and personnally it doesn't bother me at all.
On the one hand, members of a given band should create (selfishly) what pleases them period. They shouldn't be afraid to do so. Especially if they do concept releases. I find it very cool to do so.
On the other, fans should not have too high and too unrealistic expectations from the band(s) they like. Because their idol(s) is/are not them. What I mean is that both the artist and the fan have a different mindset. Nevertheless, both sides can share the same views or have complementary views on a specific subject or not. If you're a fan of the band and you like the band's album, don't hesitate to buy it (with its merch). If you don't, skip it. But please don't cry like a spoiled child and do not blame it to the band. Respect the band's artistic choice(s). In the meantime, if you're bold enough, create your own band and fill in what you consider as gaps.
The bonus part is when both the fan and the/a bandmember(s) can interact.
    Kiitos Jerry!

Everytime a Band plays its most-known Songs i feel bad for the poor Band :(

I think artists know what fans like the most. The last time I saw Gaahl he performed some of the Gorgoroth " golden era" songs because he exactly knows that almost 100% of people love them. Same thing for Mayhem, they performed the epic old songs and the newest ones which are awesome. It never happened to me to be disappointed in a gig by the choices of the bands🖤 cheers 🥂 Jerry!

Yeah. I know what you mean. Gaahls Wyrd also played some Trelldom sounds at their gig and I think they were better than GW stuff.

@@RautaMetal Agree! I like Trelldom but not at all GW.

What's up Jerry? Mayhem played a gig in Los Angeles last week. They played songs from Death Crush to Daemon. A good setlist of songs, Attila and the boys put on a great show. \m/

Great! Saw similar gig by them here in Finland about 2 years (well almost 2.5 years) ago. Show in three parts: new, old and older.

You can interact with the artists you appreciate if they're inclined to but they're not obliged to become your friend just because you bought a CD. Are you trying to be friends with the artisan who built the couch you sit on? It might actually be a good thing to maintain some distance with the artists you like. Meeting them in person might not be as satisfying as you expect. I met a bunch of artists, bands and musicians in my life and at least 50% of them were idiots and morons. Remember it's the same for artists meeting their fans.

Very well said! Music - and other art as well - is of course vastly different from "basic" crafts, like chefs, furniture manufacturers etc. so there's that. It's not like we - people in general, that is - worship those who make our smart phones, cars or clothes, BUT of course there's appreciation, even fandom, towards designers and other artists who made it possible in the first place. I mean some ppl just love Steve Jobs, but not some random designer creating iPhone etc. Or with bands: who cares how much the label or the band's manager worked for the band or the musician? But "Ozzy is the man, I love youuuuu". You hear me? :D
Well, it's strange to comment this to you since I consider you and your music something I look up to. As I found your music early 2000's, I was "man this is great stuff", so there's that. We live in a strange world. Thanks for the comment, Eric, appreciated!

I met Adam Darski (Nergal) in person of Behemoth years ago backstage. He was acting like an idiot. He has it way up high in his head.

I’ve met Nergal for an interview over 10 years ago in backstage and back then he was a cool and friendly dude.

Well, bands owe fans nothing and vice versa. Dont like the new album, just dont buy it. Some fans do believe they owe something to the band, looking at the "I didnt enjoy the new album at first but after 100 spins it grew on me" guys. Guilty of it myself, theres too much shit i own just because of the name on the album

Tällä videolla on alle 500 näyttökertaa ja kymmenen kommentoijaa. Melko harvoin näkee näin aktiivisia seuraajia. Yleensä kukaan aikuinen ei jaksa kommentoida videoita eikä täällä varmaan lapsia paljoa pyöri

Juu. Aika pieniä määriä melkein kaikki videot saavat, paitsi haastikset. Mutta ihmiset ovat yllättävän aktiivisia kommentoimaan ja haluan myös rohkaista heitä siihen. Keskustelu auki!
