    I made this a few days ago with equal parts coconut oil, baking soda, and cornstarch, and it WORKS for me! Very happy with it. My roommate even smelled up close at the end of a [hot] day where I had spent time outside and was sweating, and she said I didn't smell! (and believe me I was also trying to sniff myself all day to see if it was working, and I could never smell anything either) Very happy with it. Super easy to make and these are ingredients that I had around anyway!

      @@317peppermint Update: I'm a couple of weeks in now and still loving it! But I did find that after a few days my armpits started to stink really bad and I had heard about the need to "detox" your armpits before going to a more natural method. I didn't feel like buying anything extra, so I actually used a mint julep facemask rub that I already had, on my armpits (weird, but it actually worked).
      So anyway, all that to say that it might take a little adjustment for a few days in the middle there. But like I said, it's going strong now! I'm a fan

      Most recent update: Still using it and loving it. About to make a new batch. For everyday use, this works just fine! For more heavy-duty, or if I'm traveling then I may keep a stick around to use for special occasions. But this is my go-to recipe now and I use it daily. SUPER easy

    I just wanted to give my feedback after using this recipe for about a month!
    1. I really like it!
    2. I read the comments beforehand and decided to add about HALF of the essential oils she recommends; too much can irritate your skin and I was switching from commercial deodorant to avoid irritation. I used peppermint oil and a dash of tea tree.
    3. I made half the recipe she suggests to see if i liked it first, which I’m glad for doing as I’m about halfway through it now after 1 month. So her original recipe quantities for me would last about 4 months!
    4. Obviously this is a natural deodorant, so don’t expect it to perform in the exact same ways a commercial one does. On hot days, or when I’ve sweated a lot, I have needed to reapply it once to ensure I don’t get stinky!
    6. After I’ve applied it, I do let it ‘sink in’ for a couple of minutes so it doesn’t stain my clothes.
    Thank you for your recipe! 🧡

    You can simply rub lemon in your armpits and it works wonder. I am using it every day and inspire of hot weather of Western Australia, underarms doesn’t smell by the end of the day. All natural and hassle free. I apply after taking shower in the morning and before going to bed.

    Essential oil is extremely caustic when not diluted enough and that’s more than likely the main cause of the burns people are experiencing. The most that should be going into this mixture is a total of 10 drops altogether (Not 25). The amount of other ingredients used in this recipe are no where near enough to dilute the essential oils. It’s way too concentrated and can be unsafe depending on which essential oils you use. Always do your research before trying diy recipes folks

      Excellent. My son is 10 and I've made him some. It works so well.
      This is the recipe I used, it's for children;
      8 Tablespoons of organic coconut oil (in its solid state)
      1/2 Tablespoon of aluminum-free baking soda (it didn't work for my son so I added 1/2 Teaspoon more)
      1 Tablespoon arrow-root powder (or natural corn starch)
      5 drops of Tea Tree oil
      5 drops of lavender oil (or preferred scent of essential oil)

    I made this recipe back in May and still have a few days left. So it's lasted me for abt four and a half months. That's with applying it in the morning, and usually before bed time, during the times when it's hot as my body temp seems to be warmer when I sleep. In the 4+ months, I think there was only 2 times that I smelled any odor, and it was mild at that. The odor was, not the humid temp. Anyway, I love it and going to be making another batch within the next couple of days. I used 7 drops of lavendar, 3 of tea tree, which for me was perfect. I didn't know if I was going to be ok with applying it with my finger, but it hasn't been a problem. I bought a couple of applicators to make stick deodorant, but I'm so happy with this recipe that I'm sticking with it. Oh, I did have the deod melt on a few occasions, but I just stuck it in the fridge for abt 10-15 min, and it was perfect. I'm thrilled also with it taking so few ingred.

Did you get tired of it? I used lavender and tea tree, and 4+ mo later, I still love the smell. Since I need to make more, I think I'm going to make a few jars worth with different oils. I did a bit at first, if that happens stop until it calms and use soothing cream at night or something then try again. Not used shop deodorant in ages. It did melt whilst travelling Oz lol.

    Good essential oils to use would be chamomile Roman as its healing for the skin as well as lavender. Citrus like bergamot are sensitising in the sunshine so will make you burn more easily. Now I know we don't all sit with our armpits facing the sun all the time but it could be an issue if some had dripped down your arm or you smeared some elsewhere. 💕

    Thank you for keeping it simple. I read TONS of recipes online and since I couldn't find anything minimal and simple I ended up making something very similar to what you are showing us here but with activated charcoal instead of baking soda - Recently, after years of using baking soda I panicked because I switched to a different soap for showering and something in it caused a horrible burning reaction in my skin. I have always been aware this kind of reaction was a possibility with baking soda but I never expected anything this drastic. Anyway, so this made me reconsider the whole thing and decided to replace it with activated charcoal. Let's see how it goes.

    I'm definitely interested in trying this. I generally don't wear deodorant because I have worked on the health of my body to the point where I don't really have a smell when I sweat, but stress sweat however always smells gross no matter who you are and so I keep deodorant around for the times when I stress sweat. I would love to try this since it is more natural and simple and I can actually read and say all of the ingredients without effort. 😂

      It's so easy to make, let me know if you try it! I'm also not a very sweaty person so I don't always even wear deodorant haha, but it's nice having one that's so simple and non-toxic!

    Love this! Wish more people would stop using the harmful, commercial products. I was originally concerned about odor using self made deodorant. But, instead, I get compliments about how fresh I smell. It compliments any perfume and I find I use less.

    Hi Meaghan, thanks for your videos. I have a question, do you find that you get oil on your clothes or is it all absorbed into the skin? I live in Australia so the climate is probably warmer most of the year. Thanks. Lesley

    • @meghanlivingstone
      @meghanlivingstone  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will definitely absorb into the skin! Just make sure you give it a couple minutes to dry and your clothes should be ok :)

    Can I use olive oil instead of Coconut oil?

    • @Jordan-jy7pg
      @Jordan-jy7pg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, because olive oil is not a solid at room temperature. You need to use a saturated fat such as coconut oil or beef tallow since they are solid at room temperature.

    Could you add soya wax to make this more like a deodorant stick? .... Lovely easy to understand tutorial thanks 💖

    • @drebae95
      @drebae95 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Raw cocoa butter / beeswax would give you that creamy stick feeling. The soy wouldnt help much because the wax would Harden

    • @ladyE2daS
      @ladyE2daS 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maximumsatan YES, you can use soya wax to produce a firmer deodorant. Substitute 1 tablespoon of Shea butter for 1 tablespoon coconut oil. Start out with adding a tablespoon or so of soya wax added to the oils in a double boiler method. Let it cool down. Add more til you find your desired consistency. Then mix into dry ingredients.

    Can I use almond oil instead of coconut oil?

    • @meghanlivingstone

      Yes you can! Although coconut oil will solidify in cooler temperatures which is nice for a deodorant, but almond oil will work too (it just may be slightly more runny)
