If Eternal guards had shield, veteran and drilled all for free i still wouldn't take them, that's how bad they are. They're outshone by gors in just about every way, but literally cost twice as much for some reason
Well, imo GW just kicked wood elf players down the gutter. Many other armies got points fixed downwards or some special rules etc. Wood elfs got price increases and their own rules removed (compared to other editions). Most of the reports I have seen, wood elfs have just got demolished, couple wins (cos opponent have played bad list + played poorly).

For me I struggle to see what they bring that the Treekin can’t do better (admittedly Treekin are limited on their LD unless you bring an ancient)
I feel like you forget the combo of having an anvil unit of Dryads with a Nymph and a Branchwraith, it suddenly adds up to a alot of decent attacks while still being a speed bump/anvil with their toughness 4., to get yoru flank charges in place for Wardancers or Wild Riders.
Great commentary. If you felt like it love to hear an episode about Wood Elf lists and/or your experience of playing g them.
Really enjoyed the Wood Elf two-parter; Phil was great. A nice addition to the list reviews would be an example list each at the end.
One thing you did miss with the waywatchers over the deepwood scouts, is they also have feigned flight (so auto rally after a fire and flee), ignores cover and an extra point of initiative (as well as the extra +1 BS). So from that point of view they are worth their points. It’s whether the waystalker tax outweighs that. I consider him similar to 8th, more of a psychological threat. The threat of him sniping mages may force them into units or make you opponent move them to a disadvantageous position. If you are taking the stalker, consider taking 2 with Swiftshiver shards, one running solo with Asendis Bane and the other in the waystalkers with the spites that give him and the unit magical attacks. Possibly a points sink but I bet an opportunity will get worried with two of them gunning for his mages with 4 S4 shots each turn.
For Sisters of the Thorn, I think going Pillar of Fire and trying to bounce it through multiple units or into enemy casters is also a good option.
With spells being selected before deployment, you could choose spells after knowing what your opponent has, right? This makes SotT really strong, as they basically have a free Lore Familiar as a L2 Wizard. Amazing value.
I love Eternal Guard thematically, but it's really damning I probably still wouldn't field them (outside of themed lists that aren't set on being competitive) if they had a 6+ ward save built-in! The anti-synergy with the rest of the list is too much of a problem, even if you solve the efficiency-vs-cost issue.
Facts. I see them as a "courtesy unit". Something you field to give your slower moving opponent a unit to engage with as they rest of your forces dance away so that they don't get completely frustrated.
Illusion Doppelganger lvl4 on s Warhawk, inside a Warhawk unit is sick! Give her Dragon Slayer or Spear of Twilight (your Lord has the Ogre Blade) and she cannot be avoided because skirmishers charge whichever way they want!

Eternal Guard have a good role, move in front of the enemy and soak/tank a charge for a turn with stubborn so in your turn you can flank them. You don't need many off them if they only need to survive 1 round, but they just cost too much. I'd love it if they gave them something to make them worth the points instead of just making them cheaper.
Also 70 points for 5 wildwood rangers, that have the potential to 1 shot a Giant is pretty solid. Even just as a roadblock for monsters like minotaur's and stuff, 5 of them can dish out a lot of wounds to them.
how is it that the wildwood rangers can 1 shot a giant?
@@eviltables7235 Its T6 6wounds? You're S5 2attacks with 2 damage a wound, you're hitting it on 3s and just need 3 wounds from 10 attacks. Won't happen all the time but its a pretty decent chance aha

I find dryads just boring now. They don't feel dangerous at all like in the lore, just a slightly annoying speed bumb. So I won't be running them anymore. Eternal guards were tough to use even in 6th when they had more attacks, access to rhymer's harp, cost less points and when stubborn had clear advantage. Now they feel really overcosted. Even in 6th I never won any games if I decided to bring them, since they took away so many points from the rest of your army that critical mass of msu was lost.
Guys is possible march and cast a missile spell right? Sisters of thorns are amazing :)
Its not mate I was actually doing it at the start of TOW and got corrected on it myself, I believe its in the shooting section (or somewhere who knows) to not be able to

@11:10 - How are you putting multiple Runes of Battle on the same standard? Runes of Battle don't have the asterisk (*), so you cannot have more than one on the same item.
Hey mate: actually realised during the game you couldn’t, we switched one of the battle runes to the unit standard to “fix” the error in the simplest way while playing
@@BearfootMiniatures - Good idea. I think some iterations of the game had it so you could take more than one of that Rune at a time on the same banner. Wonder why it is not the case now...
Non interactive army, just means the other side has done a mistake in how they built their army.
