- As we are now in draft month with the Bears holding two top ten picks, Josh Lucas stops by with his power rankings of this year's prospects. He and Adam Hoge go deep on his top 10 and the rest of the landcape 3 weeks out.

Every time I listen to Josh Lucas, you can absolutely tell that Ryan Pace left a permanent imprint on his brain.
People feel smart criticizing Lucas, but he’s the bigger man for being totally honest about both his successes AND failures. And he’s constantly reminding us that drafting well takes both luck and skill. Smart guy. Smarter than his critics.
So tired of seeing comments being down on Lucas. Let me let you in on a secret - everyone misses. It doesn't diminish the immense about of knowledge and insight he can offer on the podcast.
No sense in being reasonable, many can't be reasoned with. Many are delusional and expect a 100% hit rate. Like... yeah okay
I like that he said he did not study Aaron Rodgers coming out of cal rather than going oh yeah I knew he was a guy. trustable credibility
@@blankname6629 100%
But he's so awful to listen to. You have to put it at 1.5 speed just so he sounds like a normal person. Idgaf how much he knows, he's fucking awful at presenting information in an enjoyable way.
I feel like this is the best analyst you can find online about the bears.
Love these episodes with Josh and how passionate he is about draft stuff
You're the One.
@@Ryn_ryn123 way to put together a complete sentence, pal
Yall need to figure out the ads on this channel. It's insane having ads every 5mins in a 90 min video.
Must be you, I’ve not had that many.😢
It’s called Premium TH-cam
Premium is worth it for sure
Yeah, it's called TH-cam premium and you'll never see one
I always like when Josh is on. Great guest!
Keep bringing Josh on the show always love to hear his opinions
Always enjoy listening to Josh!
This is fascinating stuff, of the type too rarely found on Bear or any football podcasts. Let's have more of it, from Lucas in particular.
Stop hating on Josh…obviously his regime didn’t get every pick right but this is great insight and I feel like I learn more about football every time he’s on the show
Great pod. Dude sounds drunk lol
Listening to his analysis of Caleb, you can see how the staff he was on passed on Mahomes
It's weird because a lot of the guys high on his list are boom or bust, very few "safe" picks and yet they passed on Mahomes who was seen as similar boom or bust potential. He even explained in a different video that the staff thought Trubisky was the "higher floor" pick at the time.
People hate on Josh and it's pretty pathetic. The guy always has interesting knowledge that he shares on these casts.
This guy... He was part of a staff that traded every 1st round pick because they drafted nothing but busts, then he had the gall to say "The salary cap doesn't matter you just push it off to the next staff"... Exactly what they did in Chicago when he was there. Then he bitched about Fields not having a supporting cast when Poles had to do exactly what he said he would have to do and fix the mess they made. I cannot listen to a damn thing he says.
So, so true!
100% grand slam home run take.
You're not wrong. I am wondering why we're listening to this clown? What all pros has he uncovered in the draft?
@georger743 , he was there when they drafted Jaylon Johnson and Roquan Smith. I agree with this comment based on cap statement, but he's not entirely bereft of knowledge and expertise.
100%, just what I was thinking. This is why he doesn’t have a job. He also said Edge Rushers were easy to draft, they are not, he cherry picked one draft as an example. He didn’t mention all the edge rushers out of the league in 3 years. Or that for him to get an edge he traded for Mack, or how Floyd was a bust here, and turned into an average player later.
All drafts have their own flavor, sometimes it’s a mixed bag, sometimes you get the 2011 class which was an unbelievable class of talent. And sometimes you get the 2015 class. In 2011 Aldo Smith went before JJ Watt, Ryan Kerrigan, Cam Hayward, Robert Quinn, and Cam Jordan. I would call a huge mistake.
He Compares Verse to Sweat, that’s a decent Comparison, except, Sweat is much bigger, much longer, and he’s faster, Sweat has Turner speed. Sweat was also 3 years younger than Verse when he was drafted. He also had better bend. To be Clear, Montez ran a 4.41 at almost 6’6, 260. With almost 36 inch arms. Even with all his amazing traits, he went 26th. He is probably the 3rd best edge from his Class. That Class was way better than this one. He’s not gonna be as good as Sweat, but hey draft him 17 picks higher. The only reason he is mocked high is it’s a thin edge class, and team need. He wouldn’t even be a first round pick in a good edge class.
If he was in Sweats class, nobody is taking him over Sweat. Not a chance.
Josh Lucas is always a must watch.
Josh = gift of gab.
So glad this drunk guy that helped set us back 5 years is back.
Yup the weird Ryan pace draft boards. Byron Murphy is not Aaron Donald that is a joke to compare them. Aaron Donald was the best player on the field when he was a freshman
I like when you guys have Josh Lucas on, he provides good insight.
Fricken insane commercials!!!!
Thank you. They hold the ball cor different reasons. Caleb is buying time with his eyes down field looking to throw. Not having go see it and throw it. Looking to bail. 2 different reasons man
Great stuff, man we really need DLine! Good thing is we are in a great spot BEAR DOWN
this guy is great, but is anyone else having trouble taking him seriously after picking tribusky...?
Oh my this guy
Hoge, you’re the first I heard sing the praises of Murphy. Now Josh, too. And Flus’s defense relies on the 3-tech. If he doesn’t shoot up team boards, very interesting trade down option. Maybe nab a 2nd rounder from Jacksonville?
10:53 who’s that 4th receiver with the off field concerns ?
Jermaine Burton possibly
Might have been an allusion to Adonai Mitchell. Josh ranked him Top 5 on the basis of talent, but acknowledged most teams wouldn't have him nearly that high, since the other Top 3 WR options are cleaner-character players.
Don't know anything about Mitchell other than that, though. Just what i got from the pod. Lucas seems to think the player on the field has a super high ceiling, so guessing that makes him the '4th receiver.'
@@chrxsprod yeah Burton is who I thought of though it could be one of the other ones who is actually projected to be taken in round 1
Dude definitely ordered the red wine from Starbucks
Why are we listening to Lucas? He was part of player selection and development under Pace.
Listening to him, doesn’t diminish the knowledge he has. He’s worked in a front office. W/ ryan pace or not
Concerns about Caleb’s hand size, that’s a first. His hand size is one his strengths, a full 1/2 inch bigger than Mahomes
I agree with him on Byron Murphy…. I think Bears trade back and get this kid IMO
My dude josh in the same condition as he was when he made the decision to draft trubisky
ha ha beat me to it ....TiPSY Friday
lol
I think that was Ryan Pace all the way
** I wonder if Dude was Sipping on a little something ~something the night they chose Trubisky 🤔
Byron Murphy is gon be a problem. Dudes a beast!
I’ll take former bears d coach Texas alum Vance Bedford’s opinion of both Texas dts. Good players big and strong but they don’t move that well. He ran a 4.88 40 but on tape he does not get off the snap that quickly
Now we know who not to pick
Great convo. Wish Josh would stop assuming the entire audience knows all prospects by their schools. What is there a handout or something? (I know he mentioned pronunciation, but still- we probably don't know who you're talking about without names because we're not all scouts).
First time watching this show, and most definitely the last. 😂
You buried the lede under 28 minutes of rambling about the 2019 class. Hoge, you gotta put on your producer hat and tighten that up next time.
Picks a good draft class, but doesn't pick the 2021 draft class as it doesn't fit the narrative. Top 10 that year QB, QB, QB, TE, WR, WR, OT, CB, CB, WR....Then Fields went at 11, not a single pass rusher in the top 10 ( Micah Parsons dropped to 12). So that season, five QB's went in the top 15, three WR's and a TE in the top 10, only four defensive players and one pass rusher in the top 16.
Those three wide receivers are all pretty good too and the league knew it, wouldn't let them drop too far. This years top receivers could actually end up being better.
Chase, Waddle and Smith are all great receivers and were straight out the door. Harrison Jr, Nabers and Odunze could do the same thing.
I don’t know if that’s you talking, or the liquor.
“I am the liquor.”
-J. Lucas
Byron Murphy is getting some hype lately
Has Lucas said why he isn't working in the NFL .?
trade down. get and extra 2nd and 3rd. draft newton. a great wr will be available in r2.
To be fair Jaylon Johnson had a first round grade coming out. His injury history was why he slid. Pace was always willing to take those type of gambles.
Sorry folks we are drafting a DE before any rockstar WR’s. Premium position rookie contract.
HOGGIE!
Always love when Josh is on. Great stuff.
I don't have as much hate for Josh Lucas as some. But the way he talks about JC Latham is a huge reason why I'm so glad he's not in the room now. And maybe someone exists on Poles staff now who has the same view.. but I really dislike these kind of evaluations. "He has all the tools, all the traits. If he figures it out.. watch out."
Okay but what if he doesn't "figure it out." There are literally 4 other OTs in this draft I'd rather have than Latham and it's specifically bc of what Josh is saying. If you have all these tools and traits and played for Alabama of all places.. why is ur awareness so poor? I've seen Latham reps where he gets absolutely destroyed. They were saying great things about Evan Neal too. I'm cool on Latham. I don't need the tackle who's the most physically gifted. Give me the guy who's the smartest.. the guy who has a reason for everything he does and can tell you exactly why he does what he does. That has staying power in this league.
And also... Something tells me that Josh is one of those guys who would gladly take JC Latham at 9, even though he's like the 4th or 5th rated lineman and could probably be had in the early 20s.
"He has increadible ball handling"?
Not trying to be a jerk, but is this guy sloshed?
right in the pocket
I had two (2) ads shoved down my throat for every single player Josh discussed in his top-10. I appreciate the analysis but it is not worth watching if I have 30+ seconds of ads shoved down my throat every couple minutes.
Also not having Joe Alt in the top-10 of this draft is insanity.
Oh yeah, love the first 28 minutes of slow rambling about the 2019 draft class - for whatever reason. Lol what are we doing here?
Hoge, it was not a long pod- could have gone longer!
Josh alittle drinky. Check that Starbucks!
Love Hoge & Jahns but when I see Josh Lucas in the episode I just roll my eyes & skip.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Easiest defense of the Trubisky vs Mahomes misevaluation is that only two teams were convicted in Mahomes. And even then, if the Chiefs/Saints were "smart" enough to project him as a potential GOAT QB, they'd have traded up to 1.01 to get him. QB drafting is a crapshoot we all know it, but a lot of folks forget it when they put fanatic hind-sight goggles on. I still learn more from Lucas about the nuances of the front office than anyone else out there.
Mike Tannenbaum on ESPN? Ehh no thanks
hrmmm... idk... are Nabers and Corley better at run after catch than Brock Bowers? Seriously...
His take on Roman Wilson is way off the mark I feel.
We don't need the opinion of anyone associated with Pace.
Having this guy on the show is like having your ex wife that tried to burn your house down over for Sunday dinner. Only listening to this because im bored and purposely not clicking like. He has no job now for a reason.
lol why we listen to a guy who made one of the worst draft day picks in recent memory 😂
Lucas has a poor draft record, which might be why he's not working in that capacity any more. I'm not that interested to hear his toughts
It's hard watching this fella talk IMO...its like time slows down and I just want it to stop..
Why is he talking about later picks… all they did is trade up and give those later draft picks
It's Friday
Holy Josh Lucas yap sesh
Well that’s what a podcast is
“Lets take draft advice from the guy who drafted Trubisky”
Him and Greg Gabriel NEVER drafted a good QB. I can understand passing on Mahomes, but Watson? The dude threw for 400+ yards on Alabama 2 straight years
@@gradybridgesdon’t compare Lucas to that clown. At least Lucas admits where he was wrong. He will give you inside scoops without being condescending. GG can F right on off
Trading down and taking Worthy is my dream!!!!
Caleb is a bigger, better Kyler Murray. That's his comp, and that's a good thing.
agree trade back to 15-20 and take Byron Murphy!
I guess you can applaud Josh "Trubisky" Lucas for being "real", but the credibility level seems low. Everytime I hear his take, I also hear me replying...but Trubisky....
Great episode, but Josh swear a little less? Tried to listen to this one with little ones in the car and had to turn it off.
Josh Lucas is great for stories but when you hear his evaluations it’s obvious why he’s not employed.
He’s bombed. Too drunk to speak publicly.
No that's his personality. He is always like that
Aint this the same guy who pounded the table for Kevin White, maaaaan gtfoh.
Is he drunk?
I think he needs a drink.
So many other teams have podcasts that are so enjoyable and interesting and then the Bears have crap like this...
CHGO is even worse. Carm braying like a donkey for an hour. Nobody is as funny as he thinks he is...
TNL has insights if you can get past them spending half the episode boasting of their infailabilty...
Thousands of other people disagree with you. It must be difficult to be such a negative human being.
@@jordanbibby6567 He's right about the unbearability of Carm, though. Singular reason I can't watch CHGO anymore.
@@AkamatsuCreative he isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Just don’t like how some people feel the need to shit on others’ livelihoods. If you don’t like it, fine. Go listen to whatever you want to. Nobody’s begging you to like it. I simply don’t understand feeling it was necessary to leave a comment like that. If it wasn’t enjoyable or interesting, it would not be successful 7 years after it’s inception, btw.
@@jordanbibby6567 Totally agree that the original comment by the above dude was not constructive whatsoever, and just a nasty unwarranted attack. I like Hoge and Lucas brings a unique insight on many things scouting and Bears. On a bit of a tangent, I will say, however, that the idea of "if you don't like it, don't watch" basically removes any accountability or avenue for critical (even negative) feedback, basically saying "we only accept positive feedback for our product". (again, on a tangent) In the case or Carm, as I said, I can no longer watch CHGO because I (and possibly many others) can't take him. If there were a way for me to couch that in a positive way so that CHGO would know what some in their audience actually sincerely think, then that would probably be useful feedback for them. Rather than "everything is great, and the numbers are great, so F you if you don't like it". Critical feedback -even if not couched eloquently - is essential for audience facing product to improve.
@@AkamatsuCreative everything that you put in quotation are not things that I actually said lol. My point is that there is something more constructive that comparing a human to a donkey. And what do you expect them to do with Carm? Fire him? Shuffle him into another podcast? As long as CHGO Bears continues to grow I do not anticipate that happening. Also, as soon as you stoop to the depths of name-calling, the powers that be are not going to take that feedback into consideration. And to think that your suggestions have any sway in what management decides is a pretty bold take
Having Josh on to me is useless. First he sounds like he just returned from 12 hours at the tavern. And he was apart of one of the worst front offices in recent memory. So he shouldn't be telling us anything about food front office decisions
I put most of that on Ryan Pace’s overly aggressive trading-picks-away philosophy. Doesn’t mean Josh is a bad talent evaluator. Besides the Trubisky pick their talent evaluation was fine. Just terrible strategy.
@mbob67 he was paces right hand man. His Ian Cunningham
yeah we should only have people on who never made a mistake in their professional career. should be a nice long list
@mikehough2800 and everytime he talks it is obvious why pace failed and why he never got another job.
I’ll say they did a great job on the D line so I’ll take his word on that.
🚮🗑️🔥🤡s
skip murphy sorry pass
Josh Lucas is a bum. Claims he heard stuff that would scare the $hit out of people but hasn't sad. The USC bowl game? What a joke. It was a scrimmage. both teams had tons of guys missing. Louisville is a trash program.
this josh lucas guy is a scout, not an evaluator!
IM SORRY HOGE I CANT LISTEN TO THIS GOOFY 🤦🏾♂️
HOGGIE!
Is he drunk?
If he got pulled over he’d definitely get breathalyzed
lol. i was just thinking the same thing. he always sound like his speech is slurred
Ya and this guy was helping pick our qbs. Yikes
I was thinking the same exact thing…like what’s in the Starbucks cup
He’s been drunk every appearance I’ve seen
