I've got my certification today (07/March/2022) here are my opinions. I hope it helps others:
1) I used this video and practice exams from Udemy(hashicorp certified: Terraform associate practice exam 2022 (which sucked by the way)) as resources. Nothing more. I didn't skip parts of the video and I've paid attention. I studied for 7 days (01/Mar to 07/Mar).
2) The exam kicked my ass and I had several questions about topics that I had not seen either in this video or the practice exams.
3) I had several questions that required knowledge about the details.. ("what would happen if X was done after Y in the situation W" kind of questions). Although I also had a LOT of brain dead question ("what is the first command you run to initialize xxxx?")
4) I distinctly remember being quietly pissed off during my exam by the sheer number of questions I've had not seen in either materials I've used to study. It was the first time I had that experience.
5) I had about 2 "fill the blank by typing" questions, about 15 "true or false" and the rest were regular questions. I felt really unprepared for the "true or false" ones since they often asked about some obscure detail I had not been told about.
6)I've passed by the skin of my teeth with 72% - the lowest score I've ever had in a certification. I had enough time to go through the questions 2 times and really think about my answers. The ones I got wrong I absolutely had no knowledge about.
7) The 2 "fill the blank by typing" questions were "what flag do you use when using the command *Terraform XXXX* to have Y behavior?". Super simple stuff. It's just a gimmick. (I'll not get into details since I've agreed to not divulge the test)
8) It is amazing how many questions about "what is/are the benefit(s) of IaC?" They can come up with. There were at least 7 in my exam in different flavors. They are really keen on selling their solution and the answer is not super clear sometimes.
9) Hashicorp does not play around and I respect them a lot for that. All questions were pretty direct and there were no tricky questions. Either you know or you don't.
My conclusion:
This is a great(free!) course and it got me through my certification. I will not complain about it. I thank the creator and will send him a $$ contribution asap. But DO NOT believe the comments saying this is an easy certification that you can pass half asleep. In my opinion, It was as hard as my aws solutions architect associate (and I got a 92% on that one!)
Please read the documentation available on hashicorp's website or use other courses to supplement this one.
Reading the comments here and on other sites I was sure this exam was going to be easy as hell.. it was NOT. Don't make the same mistake I did. ;)
Just to be sure I made myself clear: this course is AMAZING for being free. There are several minor mistakes but I am not complaining and I think you all should send some $$ his way for making this available like this!
@@davidribeiro Thanks for your super comprehensive breakdown. Would this video tutorial be useful for someone who wants to gain skills in Terraform and maybe later take the exam? Or is it entirely based around passing the exam?
@@billsmoke3929 He goes out of the scope of the exam several times in order to show the technology. Yes, follow the hands on exercises and it's a nice training, despite the exam
The content is a little bit outdated in some small parts, but nothing major.
Thanks David for detailed explanation
I need some guidance on it. How can I contact you ?

Thanks Anup bro 🙏🏽
Thank you so muxch for this! @freecodeCamp, can you please pin this? Or better yet place them on the video?
Hi Andrew Very Nice and explain - Bhavesh Shah
I actually really like that you run into little problems constantly in this video and work through them live rather than presenting a flawless pre-tested workflow. Getting accustomed to searching the docs, modifying the example code blocks, and thinking through issues provides a way more natural learning experience that more closely mimics what it's like to actually work with a new product or platform. Good stuff.
SO MUCH THIS. I'm impressed with the learning process presented here. It's almost like he's making these mistakes semi-intentionally just so he can show us the process of looking up the fix.
can you please share github repo where the hands on files are available
yes but googling every single bit is awkward 🤕 hashicorp doc search, linux man, terraform --help ...
For anyone who reads this, finished tutorial, did most of hands on, only skipped the one's that were kind of obvious to follow just visually, then I found free practice exams test, you can easily find it all over the web, just be careful, because there are a lot of outdated or incorrect answers (but says correct on submits), so i always had to check actual docs for the right answer, which also helped to learn.
I didn't stress much about this exam to be honest, got 84%, but honestly, if you spend some time on it, you can easily get above 90%. Good luck !
This is brilliant, just passed my Terraform 10 June 2022 exam because of this course. Keep it up sir
Were there any practise tests you did ??
@@unknownusers2522 I've passed in May and used "Hashicorp certified: Terraform associate practice exam 2022" from Udemy, but I found that the exam had very little to do with that practice exam.
Congratulations joe is this the only tool that you used?
@@fightfanatic5790 I did use other sources such as ACloudGuru for some practical labs and the official Terraform docs too.
Congrats, did you have access to the GitHub repo he uses?
I cannot thank this channel enough, especially Andrew. Honestly, tried several courses in udemy but these lectures are of a whole different level....precise,to the point, informative. I passed my GCP CDL and CE exams learning from your contents. Kudos and keep up the good work.

I have used this Course to prepare for the certification and passed the exam on 7th Jan 2022. The Content is completely aligned with the exam objectives. Thanks Andrew for providing such a course . it is of a great help for the people who are planing to give this cert exam.

Were there any practise tests you did ??
I watched this video, followed lot of steps described here and I passed the Terraform Associate Certification Exam. More important than that I learnt a lot about Terraform using this video. I highly recommend this to all those who want to take Terraform certification exam and/or those who want to learn Terraform.
congrats for you if you don't mind what else did you use outside of this course ? like dumps ?
@makarand, congrats. Did you get access to the repo he uses, if so how do I access it?

All the time invested by these individuals is astounding, They give me hope in these times of everyone trying to beat the other guy any way possible.
by the way good playlist collections asmita...
This has to be the best tutorial on Terraform available on youtube. Kudos to Andrew, thank you for such a detailed content. I really appreciate you for including troubleshooting part while applying the configuration files, that helped in understanding various issues and concepts.
I have cleared the Terraform associate exam yesterday.!!
All the best everyone.
Did you prepare for terraform from this course alone? What was your main resource?
@@penshami30 I studied Terraform official documentation thoroughly(with hands-on) and than went through this tutorial. I wud suggest anyone appearing for exam to first go through official documentation and use this tutorial as a crash course. That should be enough to clear the exam.
is dis one video is enough to learn terraform?
@@neerajgupta-kl1we Yes, but I recommend you to go through Terraform official documentation along with this tutorial.
I just passed the exam with 92%, resources that use: 1x Terraform Up and Running, 1x this video (at 1x speed and follow along with all the lab), 2nd iteration of Terraform Up and Running (also follow along all the lab), all the official study guide from Hashicorp, one more ExamPro video with 2x speed just to recap, practice exam with ExamPro, Udemy practice exam. Quite a lot but my goal is not just to pass the exam, but to get myself really understand IaC. From my opinion, the exam is not difficult, questions mostly are straight forward, not much scenario based question, and I didn't get any built-in function question. My approach on the exam, I finished all the 57 questions quickly in 20minutes+ and slowly review from beginning. Good luck for all who are preparing for the exam! btw for those who have concern with the AWS running cost for all the follow along, for me it's just cost me under $1, just make sure to destroy your deployment after each test and use cloud-nuke to make sure no resources running that you might not aware of.
Which test resources you used??
Bcoz I to gonna take the exam within this month
I can't tell you how long i've struggled with understanding complex variable types. This has given me such a better understanding of it...so much so that I'm going to be able to simplify my pre-defined modules for vsphere quite a bit.
Today I passed my exam. this video helped me a lot to me to learn the terraform concept and get my hands dirty by doing the things. many thanks to Andrew for your awesome work.
What other resources you used?
very good course as the instructor is looking up documentation (Which most of us will eventually end up in doing ) rather than throwing everything on to the screen from memory. This feels more engaging and practical.
key had extra 1 at the end. not sure how you missed that while checking but hey no big deal. Great effort providing free education. appreciated.

what else did you use outside of this course ?
@@seankatongo4069 writing TF code in VS, terraform documentation and couple of other shorter courses on YT.
How difficult was the certification in your opinion? I'm taking mine tomorrow
@@MelloHubb for me it was quite difficult as I have no previous background in coding or terraform. However I did have experience with AWS and Azure, so that helped. It's not an easy exam and some of the questions seem obscure. Best of luck tomorrow!
Congrats Simon, did you have access to the folder structure/repo he uses?
Thank you so much Andrew, I passed the exam today with 82%.
Excellent Tutorial.. I am still at the start but something I noticed which I thought to highlight... you said 'Ansible' is not Idempotent but coming from an Ansible background I think it is... Ansible modules are idempotent. For example, if one of the tasks is to create a directory on the server, then the directory will be created if and only if it does not already exist..
I'm a couple of hours in and wanted to say I really enjoy your teaching style. Thank you for leaving all the little mistakes and hiccups in. It really helps to see how you use the documentation and solve problems. That shows the kind of real-world skills that will be necessary to actually use Terraform in a production environment.
Followed this video for 4 days and attended the exam today...cleared it straight away...thank you!!!!

Andrew !
So glad to see you again on my way to getting better
After you helped me getting my AWS SAA we meet again
Thanks for your awesome contant
Super helpful course!! Thanks a lot Andrew for being awesome :)
The statement on "multi-cloud configuration" needs clarification because it seems to perpetuate this non-truth that the same configuration file that worked specifically Azure could be pointed to AWS, instead. That is not true. The statement should be along the lines that your configuration file can deploy resources via multiple providers and go on to say that it would require each provider to be defined and separate resource configuration written.
I am so engaged into your courses! You are awesome!
This is so clutch I scheduled my exam yesterday!

Good and very clear explanation on Terraform. Very useful for Terraform Associate Exam. Thank you.
Amazing as always! Really appreciate you, Andrew!
u r explaining very fast brother as far as i know here 80 prcnt of the peoples r beginners if u have made this btyful tutorial for beginners u should explain it slowly and have to explain evry small singl things so that we could understand the whole process thnk u
You should definitely ask for a refund!
@@allthecommonsense you said it, what is comes free is not worth!!! but efforts should not go waste......some sections were helpfull, but overall, he is just dumping the information which is as good as going through documents, without explaining whys, what and hows!!!
Wow Im looking this kind of course but many of it are expensive but now its free from Andrew, Great Course!
6:13:53 I strongly believe that they are referring to lockfile permission with the MODE option :D
Awesome video! Many thanks :)

thanks andrew brown for this course. i am waiting for this course for a long time.
Your welcome. Enjoy!
@@ExamProChannel thanks bro
Great efforts! I would also appreciate if somebody create such tutorial for HC Vault as well. 😉
Like the guy below
Watched this a couple times and only used this video to prep for the exam and passed
Thanks
Thanks for the course! The material is clearly presented and the follow-along is really helpful.
Great video so far, plan to work through it and hopefully take the exam. Just a note that I believe Ansible is primarily idempotent, however you can break this with certain modules
Great course, I hope pass the examen (I have read Terraform Up&Running Book and I have +8months of real experience...). About Terraform Cloud/Enterprise: terraform cloud and terraform enterprise, are the two sections which have more content.... is clear the idea of terraform... sell, sell, and sell over again. Whatever combination of terragrunt+terraform+git, terragrunt+terraform+git+atlantis+jenkins, terragrunt+terraform+git+argocd is more powerful than these products.
Thank you @Andrew for this detailed course. I had fun learning Terraform with this video. I passed my exam today (29/07/2022) with 85%. You are doing a great job.
Congs Larry did you use any practice exam, if you did could you tel which one ?
Passed my exam 27-06-2022 using this video, but i did end up buying the course on their website anyway. please keep in mind that hashicorp is coming out with a new version of the terraform associate certification later this year.
Were there any practise tests you did ??
Hey. Is the new version already out? Or this course is still applicable?@macnuz
Great course, but man, slow down a touch! Sometimes things can get a little unclear because of the breakneck pace and a lot of the typo's / mistakes that get made throughout the course can be avoided!
Not even watch yet, but already want to thank you for this!
Just Passed the terraform certification exam.Indeed a useful resource to go through.✌️
Did you prepare for terraform from this course alone? What was your main resource?
@@penshami30 yes i have gone through this one and one udemy course.Apart from that, from terraform official documentation.
watching this at 2* speed, this is very helpful ! Thanks
Thanks for the great content, helped me through my exam 😊
Hi, is it still valid for 2023?? And what else resources have you used?
Great quality! Would buy a practice exam from you to prepare for a real exam if I was looking for the cert.
Hi Andrew, thanks a lot for your video. It helped me passed the exam. Without you and Freecodecamp, it will be much harder to learn around
This is spectacular. Many thanks!
Andrew, any plan to release a CKA course in the foreseeable future ? I am planning to attempt it in Dec/Jan. Tf should be done any weekend from today :)
Thanks for this amazing course it was really helpful in getting me certified 🎉
Hi Meghana,
When did you get certified and what are all the resources you used to prepare for this exam?
Please advise as I'm just starting my preparation..
@ashwinalvin4997 Hi, i got certified a few months ago .. I referred to this course and the documentation.
@@meghanayelamarthi4260 okay thanks, did you had any prior experience working with Terraform which eased your preparation?
@@ashwinalvin4997 I had very little. But the video helps even if you are a freshbee
199 comments and most of them bots, with 4.7 million subscribers and 140k views, comparing this with comments shows the quality of the content!
Awesome vid. Very detailed and thanks for the explanations.
Great content! There is a minor typo on the Terraform - Use Cases slide around 49min, "open-source an extendable" should be "open-source and extendable"
Pure Gold ❤️
Thank you very much sir, really appreciated !!!

i recently got Terraform Associate Certified and I just wanna say that this certification does NOT represent my ability using Terraform
i found the exam to be nonsense really, it didn't actually test my ability and instead how well i read the white papers on what version of Terraform supports what and who is able to write providers etc ... i passed with an 85% but i could've failed with a 45% 'cause honestly a lot of it was guessing so just wanted to say that certifications these days are way overrated. In the end, they really just prove how much a person was able to cram before attempting the exam but as a DevOps Engineer I can tell you that I have worked with individuals who have 8 certs and then can't solve a simple port and/or DNS issue so don't get too caught up trying to get certified and instead focus on learning how to use all types of tools and make sure you know the basic concepts 'cause what's the point of being AWS/Terraform/Kubernetes/Docker certified if you can't figure out a simple firewall/ip/auth issue? just keep that in mind
Isnt that a Chicken and egg problem ?
Maybe certfs are needed to distinguish btw hundreds of Cvs
Great course, thank you Andrew!
I've been waiting for this one)

I watched 2 days and did hands-on for 5 days and achieve cert with 85%
I took the exam last night and passed the exam! Thank you.
What are your study materials other than this course? I am also planning to take the exam, your help might be useful for me. Do you have an prior experience in terraform?
@@kavithaconstructions i did not use anything else. i watched this video, and played around with tf for a week or two.
@@liuchwhu Ok. Thanks.
I'm taking the test next week. Wish I saw this video last week
Have you cleared the exam ?
Andrew, good job! Just to mention your caption said "terror form" :-) :-)
[QUESTION] How enterprise works in a colaborative way using Terraform Cloud, each team member has his own workspace and after a person finishes his work, he pushes his IaC to a team branch? Do you have a picture of a workflow?
Hey, idk how it work with TF cloud but in a collabaratively environment you would save the tfstate to a bucket (s3 in aws for example) tf manages the "backend" and places a lock when someone runs a plan...
@@ooorkanooo AFAIR, the lock on the file is set by the bucket and not by TF. So, when you create the bucket in s3, you need to enable the locking feature of the bucket.
Mind blowing, but you go extremely fast & no stress on proper topic I feel as if you are fastly reading the NEWS
