@@akhilmachaan5010, Of course, you can. A college degree is getting less and less relevant nowadays. Just get yourself familiar with it by practicing on a real system and real scenarios, like setup a server with different users and trying to do as much tinkering as possible, in about two to three months you can start looking for jobs.

    notes to self:
    - UEFI replaces the older BIOS
    - GRUB is how the computer transitions from bios to the actual OS
    - when you upgrade a system, the old kernel is kept as backup and you can restore it if things go wrong
    - the Linux kernel is very efficient because it is modular

      Duração do martírio de Maria.
      Glórias de Maria.
      Santo Afonso Maria de Ligório.

    • @TranscendentPhoenix
      @TranscendentPhoenix 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@disrael2101 Well I just did and my comment apparently got deleted so I won't do it again. But basically it boils down to the fact that you're still managing Linux servers. You just don't have to deal with the added overhead and complexity of hardware management, (physical) network management, and having your own data center.
What's funny is that the least useful part of the course in the "cloud" respect is the first half-hour (or whatever it is) w.r.t. booting and the kernel, contrary to what the guy's comment said. I'd still recommend you go through that though. Maybe you need to build a custom kernel at some point, in which case it's good to learn about initramfs, kernel mods etc (I didn't watch this in depth, just skimmed -- idk exactly what he goes over point-by-point). Also it's just interesting stuff and generally helpful background.

So, Shawn explains that initrd is completely different from initramfs. Based on the below note from the Linux+ Study Guide, it seems like they're saying that initrd is the RAM disk file for Red Hat systems while initramfs is the RAM disk file for Debian based systems. Can anyone clarify?
"If you install new hardware on your system that’s required to be visible at
boot time, you’ll need to modify the initrd file. You can create a new
initrd RAM disk image containing modules for the new hardware
using the mkinitrd command in Red Hat-based systems. For Debian-based
systems, the file is called initramfs , and you create it using the
mkinitramfs command. Alternatively, you can use the dracut utility,
which creates the initramfs image from a framework and copies files
    from the installed modules."

Explanation of RAID5: For a 4 drive Raid5, when data is written to an allocation unit or sector, the same numbered allocation unit on all four drives are examined. three drives will have real data and one will have a truncated sum or checksum of the other three sectors added up like huge numbers. the location of this sum sector isn't always on the same drive for all sectors so each drive shares a portion of the checksums. Every time a sector is modified, the checksum is recalculated.
If one drive fails, there is still enough information to "recalculate" the lost data even on the fly until a new drive is installed. If the bad drive had the checksum for the given sector, then nothing needs to be done. But if the bad drive had real data, the checksum for this sector is subtracted by the other available data sectors to recalculate the bits in the missing sector on the bad drive. Raid6 works the same except that there are two checksum sectors instead of one. This allows the raid to lose two drives and still function. I have seen Raid5 arrays with 9 or 10 drives which maximizes the available space but slows down the array if there is a failed drive. a 4 drive array with a bad drive is recalculating 75% of the time while an 8 drive array with a failed drive is recalculating 87.5% of the time.
