    I recently completed the DevOps course and I must say, it was a highly informative and well-structured course. The lessons were clear and easy to understand, and the instructor's knowledge and passion for the subject made the course even more engaging. The hands-on activities and practical examples helped me to solidify my understanding of the topics covered. I appreciate the time and effort put into creating this course and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to expand their knowledge in DevOps

    I feel like I should state this that anyone watching this video, please do not misunderstand what this video is showing you. This video is not showing you how to do DevOps. DevOps is a culture and not a job role, any company that offers you a DevOps job, run away as they're essentially trying to bypass the more challenging aspect which is transforming a company working culture in which developer and operations are collaborating. What this video is showing you for the most part is the responsibilities that a platform engineer would have to take on. I don't know a single software engineer, that works in a company that boasts a DevOps culture that has to worry about switching and routing. If they do, then they are trying to overload their developers with additional work that they don't need to do instead of hiring SRE' or platform engineers.

    Seven minutes in, and just reviewed the section on "cent os" and why we chose it... I get it, makes sense, however in relation to Linux, does it matter? I'm running Buster, Debian... Between Ubuntu, CentOs, etc... aren't these Linux distributions similar enough that having a specific one is erroneous? Granted, things like package managers are different but the underlying architecture is basically the same. Not trolling, not being difficult, simply asking.

    • @nitinshukla8294
      @nitinshukla8294 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I have also the same doubt. If I use Ubuntu instead of CentOS will it make a difference?

    • @TheJacklwilliams
      @TheJacklwilliams ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nitinshukla8294 The interesting thing is when things like ROS are introduced and you are only able to load it and develop with it within Ubuntu. I don’t want to whine about it either as it makes sense when building something gargantuan as a robotics operating system frameworks that of course you’d have diffculty making it available on many distros (humoring the creator(s)). However, I do wonder these things and just like Linux’s arch enemy Windows not all distros are an answer for every available challenge. Anyway, long winded answer for “yeah it makes a difference from the standpoint you want to ensure the distro/platform can meet the needs for running the things you intend to run.”

    Thanks for sharing this. They are really helpful. One questions on using multiple adapters. Let's say I have two adapter setup in a VM and both have internet access. How does VM pick which adapter to use when I try to access internet and is this deterministic?

    • @MagnumCarta
      @MagnumCarta 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In the case of Windows (my assumption to the OS you're using since you called it a "adapters" instead of "network devices"), Windows will choose the adapter with the lowest routing metric. The determination for routing metric is based off of things such as link speed (a 10 Gb adapter will be chosen before a 1 Gb adapter). If both adapters have the same link speed, then hop count and time delay will be measured to determine which adapter to select as the primary adapter.
      If by some chance both adapters had the same link speed, hop count, and time delay then Windows will select the first discovered adapter (discovered meaning when the system has scanned for any and all network adapters during boot).
      In Linux systems, routing information is usually contained in a file called /etc/network/interfaces which will specify which IP addresses a device has or if it should wait for an address from DHCP. Typically the first network device will be selected to handle the default route. However if the first device loses connectivity, it's not guaranteed the second device will immediately take over. This is where a feature called "network teaming" (in Windows) or "network bonding" (in Linux) comes into play.
      A bond can be set up between two adapters for multiple purposes but a common trend is to set up the bonded devices for failover. You would connect eno1 port to one switch, eno2 to a different switch but in /etc/network/interfaces create a new logical device called "bond0" (or something similar). One device will be the primary device while the second one is "asleep". The loopback address continuously scans the network devices to see which is up and connected to a responding switch (this is called the "carrier"). If the loopback address detects that the primary device has lost its carrier, it will switch this device off and make the secondary device now active.
      The secondary device(s) also must create a virtual MAC address so the MAC address does not change when the primary device is dropped. Otherwise a message sent by the primary device prior to losing connectivity will never get back to the host machine.
