@calroach1 Your'e telling them right my Brother I'm retired Here in Thailand since 2012, before I retired i used make border runs to Cebu & Manila. I'll be a little more accurate Ive seen the same Dumb mistakes made by guys here in Thailand , Fact suggestion If they're 50 yrs old and Got No pension of anykind , But will get min $1.4k from SocSec taken at 62 Yr old , They Should arrive in the Philippines with atleast Closest to $250K. in Cash savings as possible and a have a high limit Credit card with min. $15K limit
this will give them $1700 Per month Until 62 Yr when they can get SecSoc. personally I would live on 1200 Per mon out of the 1700 to be on safe side .

Great video Bro.Calvin! I had about 70k saved when I moved to Tanzania in 2015. After getting married, buying land, building a house, buying a car and spending like money grew on trees. By 2018 I was broke with 200 USD to my name with a family to support. Luckily, I was able to find an online job that allowed me to stay in Tanzania. If not for that, it was back to the Matrix. 😢. Proper research and financial discipline is key when living overseas.

I just retired from the Army a couple of years ago. And I will turn 50 in 2032.
I plan to get the Retirement VISA after I turn 50. My goal is to have $30,000 saved up by 2032 - $15k to get me to the Philippines and pay for my 1st month of expenses, and $15k in emergency savings. By 2032, my military pension should be at about $3,000 a month after taxes to live on every month after the 1st month.

I've been to PH 6 times, multiple islands/cities. Just recently returned to the US after 4 months in Davao City. What I've learned is the Philippines is cheaper than the US for many things but not everything. Your budget will depend on your lifestyle, living Filipino style you could easily survive on 1k a month. However, your Filipina isn't going to teach you to live cheaper, you're going to teach her how to live more expensively. I didn't limit myself to a specific budget, but with a family of 4, my wife and our 2 kids we spent about 3k a month, and that's with eating out a lot, frequent trips to the mall, a few trips to the dentist and doctors.

I did everything wrong financially, but had to take the risk for a better life. Now I live in Boracay, swimming in pristine waters everyday, white sugar beaches, beautiful women, and most importantly, a new heart, mind, body, and soul. My wife and I traveled to the Philippines last year for a month long stay. Including airfare we spent less than 3K. We do own a home in a burungy on Mindanao, but I can only handle about 2 weeks in the jungle without speaking any english. So the rest of the time we spent traveling to places like Dinagat Islands. I still came home with a few bucks in my pocket.

recurring income is key, investments that pay dividends, that have been held for 4+ years (to account for crash), I still got 2-4 years before i pull the trigger. I get its frustrating living a working life and the desire to start your new life is strong. But a financial foundation is so important. Cant imagine thinking 11k would be enough, he'd be better off buying 11000 lottery tickets instead of pulling the trigger that early, but yeah 200 - 350k minimum.

At age 58 I would only gross $1500 dollars a month before my union penalty of retiring before age 60. Luckily I was able to short sell my place and had emergency money so I could return back to my hometown with 5000 USD to rebuild my life. Sometimes it's your direct blunder, sometimes it's indirect (i.e. you are with a women who made a tight situation worse). No matter. Better to be broke in a place you know well, and how the hustle goes, than somewhere foreign running on fumes and not knowing as much as you wish you did.

10 years ago I lived with my Wife for around $500 per month in the province (for years not months) We were very comfortable and being more introverted we enjoyed spending our time at home. Internet, cable ect. It depends on who you are what lifestyle you want. Being a strict saver I don't spend money on useless crap as I am over all that. I think people in the West are completely spoiled. We had family members that were earning 3-5K P per month so I always compared myself to them and felt like a King in comparison and very grateful for the amount of money I had. I also had a very large amount of cash back home so it wasn't like I was under any kind of pressure if something went wrong. I enjoyed living like the locals for all my food needs/entertainment and definitely did not go there to live a Western lifestyle. (I wanted to get away from that) People have asked in other blogs how? and I have broke it all down and my numbers are actually lower than stated but it is too long to write. Good luck guys! Just be humble and smart. :)

As time goes by, cost of living will rise. So while they dont need 3k/m right now...who is to say what it will take in 5 years? So if a person has 60 months before they can draw soc sec or pension, they need at LEAST $180,000 cash.

It would last me about 3 months in Lapu Lapu. That is having a meal out everyday and a girlfriend. Not including the plane ticket home. I could stretch it out to six months if I rented a room and didn’t use air conditioning. If you use taxis it goes quick. You could stretch it out using Jeepnies eating rice every meal and renting a room. You would need to stay healthy too. I want to live like I do in the states. House, car, motorcycle , insurance and eating out. It is going to cost a lot to live right. Less than the states but not much less. A nice steak dinner for two with the sides is going to cost more in the Philippines than the Texas Roadhouse but much less than Ruth Chris. The Philippines isn’t free. If you want to live in the province in a house without windows and eat the food that you grow and not go anywhere you can live awhile on 11k.
