Hey guys, if you want to check back and forth between Johan Liiva and Angela Gossow, there's the album "The Root Of All Evil" with re-recorded songs from Johan's era, but with Angela's vocals (and slightly new instrumentation & production). This song is on there as well and instumentally it remains the same, but you can really hear the difference Angela makes with her sound, just search for "Bury Me An Angel 2009" on yt :) I found Arch Enemy when Angela was the vocalist, still think that was tha band's zenith so far, but I've also gotten used to Alissa and also how Johan sounded before that. With Johan, it's like you said a very different style within the melodeath genre, i think his "howling" or "hollow" vocals sound very distinct and unique and match the music very well once you've gotten used to it. In May 2019 there has been a video release by "Black Earth - Burn On the Flame" featuring the Amott brothers on guitars, Daniel Erlandsson on drums, Sharlee D'Angelo on bass and Johan Liiva as the singer. Thing sounds like a frickin time machine, and it works very well imo :) Nice reaction guys, enjoyed it as always!
The root of all evil is so fire, I enjoy Johan but Angela doing vocals on those songs is peak AE for me, Angela ripped so hard and obviously musically they were crushing it.
It's been ages since i've heard this song. I also was thinking about the vocal transfers, then a question "How would Arch enemy sounded if they got the opposite - start with female vocal and end up with male" came to my mind. There's also another band that switched to female vocal and it was brazilian group named Torture Squad.
I recommend,Stigmata, their pre-Angela album. Good stuff .Although Johan was never a vocal beast,he was just okay. Angela brought the aggression and brutality AE needed so much.
fleetwood mac and the gathering are both bands that started out with male vocalists then transitioned to female vocalists. chaoseum(that band that made a video last year that blantently ripped off korn) went the opposite way(original singer was female who was replaced by a male vocalist)
I think Torture Squad,a Brazilian thrash metal band had a male vocalist very early in their career and then they found a girl who made this band really good.
His vocals weren´t that great on this album. My favorite Arch Enemy album is still "Burning Bridges" awesome album and his vocals on this is just perfect on this album and more aggressive, every time i listen to it, i miss him in the band. Angela was great also, but you can hear when it´s a male or female when it comes to the screaming vocals.. Now Arch Enemy is just like...nahh it´s good musicwise but becomming more boring to me with their new stuff. Great reaction as always.
On the same page with Antonio. Music is great, vocals are subpar. Never been a fan of Liiva. Angela was just perfect in AE. This song has the feel of Amott fresh out of Carcass and carrying the MDM torch.
Awesome guys! You just can't dig deeper in to AE-roots than this song that is the first track of their first album. Too "bad" that they have so much songs to play live that this diamond for example rarely fits in to their setlist anymore
The first album i love but they got better by the 3rd and final album with Johan Liiva. He's still my favorite singer in Arch Enemy. I remember when Angela joined on the 4th album i was very impressed. Its just too bad how i feel they kinda declined in my opinion with each album after that. They rerecorded some of the early Liiva material with Angela and it was just bad. Something about Liiva's delivery was far more unique and wasn't trying to be all death metal. Plus they just got too popular which doesn't normally bother me when bands get big. But they got sorta poppy i guess and less interesting. Plus Chris Amott isn't in the band anymore.
Johan was ok he is pretty good just nothing crazy special either less screaming more growling for me not a huge fan of that style of vocalizing myself Fry or False fold doing weird that mix back of the throat style is meh bring it forward more to push towards more. Chris was good though nice having brothers play together kind of magic there though. Women have better melody than. men we may be stronger but women are more artistic, and better leaders in general almost always all bands make the woman leader because they are good at PR and dealing with people.
You can't take another famous singer from another band for me it's just ruins two bands now Floor is good example it jusr ruined both bands for me kind of love Tuomas still love his compositions it's now jsut double hurt if you know both bands already. Because the other one dies basically almost always.
Guys I've been watching recently reacting on some specific bands why don't try expanding your verities of music instead such as pop, country, soul, rap soft rock hard rock hard and heavy there are types of music around the world
Those first three Arch Enemy albums were awesome. However, I never knew this track had an official video.
Awwww man, i miss johan and this sound! Back when arch enemy was pure gold!!! Nice review guys!
Hey guys, new Stratovarius song called Survive is out, damn!!! th-cam.com/video/xFWJEAhC8ss/w-d-xo.html

Jinjer did originally have a male vocalist before Tatiana.
Love old Arch Enemy!, Whit Johan Liiva! 🤘🇸🇪🤘
Arch Enemy with the current lineup played this live at Tokyo 2015. How about doing that and compare? Also, Angela did it too.

Back when *ibson was played in metal...😝
the riff is best in this old arch enemy

The song is awesome as usual ! the singer...not the right type of vocalist they needed, clearly!!
