Thank you so much for your time and experience!! I am getting my heat embossing materials Saturday, oh that's tomorrow, and now I know what to do with them. I had not a clue when I ordered them. I just knew I wanted to make some cards with it. Thank you once again. I am really excited to get started.
I hope you love heat embossing, as it adds so much to your crafty projects. @@craftingforalmosteveryone Thank you Sandy!! That's awesome. I am going to play around with my embossing tools tonight. Really excited. Put some glamour on my cards. I learned so much from you so far.
I'm so glad you found my channel too... If you have any questions about embossing, please feel free to ask, as I'm more than happy to help...saundralparker@yahoo.com....I think you'll really enjoy heat embossing...one tip you should know is when you are heating the powder, don't leave the heat tool in one spot for very long...as soon as the powder turns shiny, move on, or your embossing powder will go from shiny to sinking into the paper and not being shiny or raised.. You can always go back over what you've heated if it's not shiny, but once you've over heated it, there's no going back...hope that helps...Sandy

@@craftingforalmosteveryone Thanks Sandy, I have been to Pennsylvania around the Poconos area back in 2006 it was fall and the colour of the trees was so beautiful. This was the first time I had to drive on the wrong side of the road. LOL. It took a bit to get used to but turning at lights or round-a-bouts had to take a bit more focussing. I received my goodie pack today of a stamp master stamp tool, versa mark clear pad, a bottle of clear stamp cleaner, 2 embossing powders (leaf green and red geranium) a static pad, emboss pen set and microsponges (to use instead of a brush) of course we don't have as much variety here than what I remember in the US. I wish though that I had seen your video before purchasing as I would have saved quite a bit of dough (money) :) Can't wait to start practising because as you may guess with those colours, I am doing Christmas stuff. Stay well, Janelle
@@janellekm Sounds like you got some great tools to heat emboss...I hope you'll send me a photo of what you're making. saundralparker@yahoo.com. I've never tried driving on the other side of the road and bet that was a little scary. I live on the opposite end of the state from the Poconos. I live about an hour south of Lake Erie, and am a lot closer to Niagara Falls and Canada, than I am to the Poconos. Pennsylvania is a large state and takes about 8 hours to drive across it. When I say I'm from PA, people always ask if I'm from Philadelphia...and that's probably the city you would have flown into for the Poconos. I laughed when you said you could have saved a lot of dough and then explained that meant money...that's a widely used term here, so no worries about me understanding. If you decide to try another new technique, please let me know in advance, because I'm sure I can save you a lot of money. As for embossing powders, the one you should buy is clear, because you can stamp any colored ink under it and then quickly put clear embossing powder over it and once you heat set it, you'll get the color you stamped (only a little darker) as the powder seems to darken it a little. The color I really recommend is Princess Gold from Ranger as it's not a bold gold and looks great when you want something to look elegant. I love it with flowers or sentiments. I don't recommend black or white embossing powders as I always struggle with stray flecks of it where I don't want it. No matter what I do, I get those stray flecks in black and white. I'm not sure if you can buy products from Aliexpress in Australia, but they sell a lot of craft products cheaper than I can buy them here. I love buying tear tape and brushes, basically any craft product you need...Sandy

Yes I got one pretty early into my stamping. I was having trouble using the blocks, hand and grip issues. Was about to toss everything and saw maymay use one and got 1. One of the best thing I did buy. I try and buy what I really need but then save when I can and your videos help me figure it out. I have slowly expanded my products. You seem to do a video when I am getting ready to make my next step. As of now embossing is my last adventure. Lol.at least for now. Until you do a video on something else that catches my eye. I think I am pretty set. I basically do just cards. I use to cross stitch and crochet but just can't do it anymore. But cards are doable. I can take my time and set it aside when I need too. The people I send then to are just thrilled with them and I really not that good. You have been such a blessing with what you do for your viewers. I really mean that Sandy. I am not the person that doesn't say what I mean good or bad. Every time I turn on my phone or tablet and see that you have a new video up I watch it right then. Stay warm. Take care Debi.
Debi, You MADE MY DAY! Thanks so much for your kind words, they mean so much to me. I loved to needlepoint and cross stitch (in the 80's), but then just couldn't hold the needle anymore. They just recently came out with dies that cut the holes to cross stitch on a card. I can't imagine putting that much work into something that the recipient will toss. I might consider trying a row of stitches on a card, but highly doubt it. I still have all of my old threads/yarns, but can't bring myself to get rid of them. I do use the embroidery floss in videos to thread through buttons on cards. I like the look of them with floss as it's so much thicker than thread. I love sending cards to people and my postal workers always smile at the art on the outside of my envelopes, so maybe it makes them happy seeing cards go through the mail...I'd love to see some of yours.
Thank you very much for your easy to comprehend and very concise information. After watching this I feel confident to try my first piece of embossing and also know what to purchase.

You're so nice to do this. I'm so used to watching videos that are mostly sales pitches - happy to discover yours! I'm just getting started with heat embossing and it's so much fun! Amazingly, the embossing powder I bought ten years ago when it was on sale is still good, as are the pigment inks I bought back then. I wish I'd seen your video before I bought a little (way overpriced) bag to clean off cardstock before stamping with Versamark - it never occurred to me that I could make my own. I have a feeling that as I watch more of your videos, I'll discover additional purchases that could have been avoided. Live and learn, right? Many thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and expertise - I really appreciate it!
I'm so glad you liked the video. If you have any questions about heat embossing, please email me and I'd be happy to help you...saundralparker@yahoo.com
You saved me from wasting money with your info about the inks. Am going to try just making my own anti static pouch also. Every little bit of savings helps so much. Take care, Debi
Debi, I really want to help people save money wherever possible so we an buy the things we really need. Do you have a stamp positioning tool like the Tim Holtz or Misti? If you do, it will really help you reduce the colors of embossing powders you'll need. So glad you enjoyed the video and that you're making your own pouch. Mine works just fine and didn't cost me anything, YAY!
Deb, So glad I helped. The follow up videos will definitely help you to decide which of the tools will work best, as we're going to be doing some tests with the inks, the anti-static pouches, and the powders, to see which work best so we'll all know and be able to buy smarter and hopefully, only once.

Thank you, Sandy, for your thorough presentation of the ins and outs of embossing powder. You have put together a very information dense video and I will have to watch it a couple more times to make sure I have it all down. Thank you also for providing product notes so your audience could pay attention to what you were saying and doing instead of splitting our our attention and missing something in the process. Because of your work, ‘I am confident that I will buy only what I really need and that you saved me a bunch of money and a lot of stress. You deserve an humanitarian award, because you knowingly went down in to the rabbit hole so the rest of us won't have to. Great work! I have subscribed and I look forward to watching more of your work
Steve, I'm so glad you learned things from this video. I love helping crafters save money and try to make sure to offer money saving tips on all of my videos. And, I always write complete info below each video so you can print them out and use it for a reference guide. I started doing that in detail after maybe my first 50 videos, so you have over 500 more that should have the information below them. My channel isn't monetized and I'm not affiliated with any company, so when I provide product links, it's so you know where I bought something, but I always recommend you price shop. If you live in the US, Joanns usually has the best coupons and you should almost always be able to save 40-50% off one item, like your heat tool in this case. If you ever have any questions, feel free to email me, as I am happy to help. saundralparker@yahoo.com Good luck with embossing, I hope you really enjoy it. PS if you live in a hot, humid climate, your embossing powder might go bad over time..I recommend you keep it in the container it comes in and keep it well sealed to hopefully preserve it as long as possible....(I also recommend you make your own corn starch or baby powder pouch, as it will save you up to $10 for basically the same thing...You can use a baby sock and either stitch the end closed or knot it like I knotted knee highs, or if you can still find knee highs, mine is still working great....
Thanks, Sandy. You provide such helpful information in this type of video. Even those of us who have been using heat embossing can benefit from seeing a product we didn’t know in your supplies. For me, I had seen those small brass stencils, but didn’t know what they were or how to use them. I enjoyed watching and learned something new, a twofer!
Pat, Thanks so much. I hate that crafters use the term embossing for everything and I wanted to make sure everyone knew exactly what we were talking about. So glad you got something out of it, YAY!
V....I'm so glad I can help.. Thank you so much for the tutorial on heat and bossing Sandy! I just got my heat tool yesterday, it is the same as yours. I have ink pads, I won 6 small bottles of embossing powder in different colors, in a online craft group I am apart of, as a prize from a game. I have paint brushes. the only thing I don't have is that little Powderpuff thing but I can make one of those. I'm excited to get started heat embossing! This was really a great tutorial!
Lee, I hope you'll send me a photo of your first heat embossing project. There are so many things you can do when you've mastered heat embossing. As for the pouch, I just took two knee highs and put them inside each other, then put some corn starch (or baby powder) inside and knotted it as close to the corn starch as possible, and cut off the ends. I've used it for years and it still works great. I wouldn't have bought the other "pouch" products as I really think my homemade one works best. If you can sew, you could make your own pouch out of muslin....I only bought the bottle because I was testing to see if there was any performance difference in videos, and I found the bottle with the brush is the least effective and is hard to get the powder to come out consistently. I can't wait to hear all about your heat embossing.....Sandy
Wow, what a great video! Thank you for your help, Sandy. I’m an artist (mostly watercolor and acrylic) and I wanted to add some embossing to my paintings for interesting effects. You make it seem so easy.
It is really simple. The trickiest part is making sure the ink is still wet when you add the powder, and making sure the gun is super hot before beginning. Please let me know if you have any additional questions..saundralparker@yahoo.com...Sandy
Sandy! I am so interested in your videos! I have learned so very much by watching! I love all of these videos! I am inspired to go make some cards! I haven't made them in a long time, but now I want to get back to it!

Very thorough and informative. I also do not like the EK success powder tool. It never seems like the powder is coming out and it covers such a small area. That versa fine ink pad case is ridiculous. Can't believe they've never changed it. And they've got the best cases for the Momento and brilliance inks.
Thanks so much. I really wonder why Jennifer McGuire used that powder tool forever, and that's why I bought it, even though when I watched her, it seemed like she was always shaking it to get the powder to distribute. I see that she has recently changed to a pouch. You're right, that Versafine ink is awesome, but the case, ridiculous. I would have thought by now they'd have gotten enough complaints that they would have changed it too...Maybe the cost to change is just too high for the value that they think they will get out of it. Still love the ink though... Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I've meant to tell you that I like your screen name and wonder if you are a card stock hoarder (like me). haha...
Nadia, So glad I could help. I'll be doing others to help know which paper works best for embossing and which of the powders works best and what inks, etc. Lots of videos to help coming your way....Sandy
Fantastic demo. Love the portion regarding the static power. Most of the ones I have tried leave a residueor come apart ... may try making my own like yours. I do a lot of embossing and try to encourage others to add just that finished look to their cards. Versamark is my prefered ink for heat embossing when using colored powders and when using a colored ink I prefer a fine or extra fine clear powder.
Thanks Barb, I really wanted to do a series on embossing to show people all kinds of ways to use it, as well as determining if paper makes a difference, or if the anti-static tool makes a difference, etc. That way we'll all know easier ways to try this. Hope you'll share some photos of your embossed projects on my facebook page, crafting for almost everyone, so others can share in your experience....
That was a great tutorial for heat embossing. I think you covered literally EVERYTHING. I do the same as you with just using colored ink and versa mark over it with clear powder. I also bought a bottle of pure vegetable glycerine (got mine at Walmart in the skincare section)for jsut a couple dollars and refill my embossing pens as well as pads with it. much cheaper than buy the re-inkers.
I was really afraid to confuse people with glycerin, but will be doing it in one of the follow up videos for people who already have the basics down. What percentage glycerin to water do you use for your re-inking? I could have re-inked that Ink It Up pad with it, but I didn't want anyone to get the idea that they needed to buy glycerin....I have never found the right mix of glycerin to water when I tried re-inking, and mine were too sticky.
So glad it helped you....please let me know if you have any crafty issues you'd like me to cover in a video, as those are my favorites to make. saundralparker@yahoo.com Sandy

Like the case a CD comes in and some foam. If you can't find a product, please let me know and we'll see if we can figure out a way to improvise one...Sandy
Sandy thank you so much for this video. You have helped me out in the past when I was having trouble understanding the differences in the types of ink. You had told me that you would be doing a video on embossing. This has been more then I could hope for. I had been reluctant about embossing because of the cost. In my head I had already limited myself to a few basic colors. I had no idea you could use regular ink with clear powder. But I do have 1 question. I have seen a few videos where they heated the powder from the back but never explained why. Thank you again, Debi.
So glad you asked. If you heat from the back, you won't burn the paper as much, and some papers will warp, so it helps with that as well. I used to only heat from the back because I was scared of scorching the paper. I plan on showing different ways of heating in the next video, so we can tell if one method works better than another. Thanks for asking...
I'm so glad you thought so, and am happy to help newer crafters in any way that I can. If you have a topic or tool you'd like me to cover, please let me know and I'd be happy to give it a try....Sandy
Crafting For Almost Everyone I am working with a heat tool for the first time, although I am not a new crafter but I have never heat embossed before. I bought a Recollections heat tool several days ago. I think I may be rushing my embossing before the tool is really ready. I will keep on working. You are a true inspiration!
@@leeyadrick4469 I don't think you can ever let your gun get too hot...by that I mean that it's better to keep it on a while before putting it to paper, because the embossing powder will melt a lot faster for you, and you'll get better results..you won't burn your paper because you held the gun on it too long,, or "overcook" the embossing powder. That was my first big mistake...I'd leave the heat on it too long and my image would look shiny, and then it wouldn't, because basically it melts so much that it sinks into the paper so you lose the raised shiny look... I think if you really warm your heat gun up, you'll be happy with the results...and if you aren't, email me a photo of it and what you think is wrong, and I'd be more than happy to talk you through it...saundralparker@yahoo.com I had trouble embossing at first too, so it's definitely not you...I think it just takes a little practice....and if you live in a hot humid climate, your embossing powder can go bad, so if it's clumpy coming out of the container, you might be having trouble because of that too....hope I helped....I'm so glad I can be here to help you...It's not easy when you're learning something new...Sandy

OMGOODNESS!!! You are amazing...I have not tried yet but I am pretty sure I have what I need to start. I started an ATC Swap Group on Facebook and hope to create some pretty cool ATCs to swap....if you are interested please let me know
I would buy a clear embossing powder, and if you don't have Versafine Onyx Black Ink, I'd buy a stamp pad of that, so you can heat emboss it with the clear to make a really nice black embossed finish. A metallic is great for Christmas cards etc., and I'm still trying to find a white I really like. It will probably be in one of the next embossing videos where I show how hard it is to use white, much like black. The Versafine Onyx Black ink makes black powder unnecessary, but there aren't any white inks that will do the same for white powder so far. I'll keep you in the loop though...
If you live in a humid area, it can affect your embossing powder and make it so it doesn't stick well to the Versamark ink. And if you do live in a humid area, you might want to take one of those small pouches you get inside certain things you buy that keep the humidity out, and put into your embossing powder bottle, so they last longer and work better. I'm happy to be able to help, and if you have other questions at any time, please feel free to email me at saundralparker@yahoo.com...Sandy

I think you might be using a thick embossing powder, or ultra trick. I'd change to fine detail embossing powder and don't put a lot on...you can always add more and reheat if you don't have enough powder, but I think that should solve the bubbling...less might be the answer.
I've had it since I was 22...40+ years. If you have more questions or want to discuss it more, email me at saundralparker@yahoo.com. Thanks for asking.
Bonnie, It took me a little while, but I found it. The stamp is from Fiskars and the set is called "Petals from Scratch." I updated the info for the video to include it as well. Sandy
That's so kind of you...No, as much as I love doing videos, the closest I get to teaching, is going back to the college Rich and I graduated from, and do seminars with the college juniors and seniors to prepare them for interviewing. Then I interview each student so they know what to expect in the real world. Thanks for the nice note.
I'm sorry, I don't know what a pouch pad for quilting stencils is...if you could tell me what your product does, and if it's a pouch, what's in the pouch, I'd be happy to help. Sandy
I believe it is a chalk type power. When you have a plastic stencil design you pounce the powder bag on the design which sets on the material you are going to quilt and the powder sets into the design then you take off the stencil and the design sets on the material and you follow the design lines and quilt it.
@@Pegsquilting I'd give it a try, as you have nothing to lose. If it doesn't seem to work, wipe the surface off and try baby powder or corn starch....Hope i helped.

@@craftingforalmosteveryone thanks Sandy, and hello from Australia, or should I say Gday mate. 😊
@@janellekm I love talking to people in different parts of the world....and you can't get much further away from me (Pennsylvania) than Australia... If you have access to baby socks, they make the perfect holder for anti-static corn starch or baby powder..You can just tie a rubber band around the upper part of the sock once you fill it with the powder of your choice...If I can find ways to save other crafters from buying tools, I love to help when I can...Sandy
Thank you for explaining the very basics! A lot of videos I've watched use vocab that I (a beginner) do not understand. So glad to have found this

I've meant to tell you that I like your screen name and wonder if you are a card stock hoarder (like me). haha...

In a 1 ounce bottle I put 1 teaspoon of distilled water and the rest vegetable glycerine. It is a bit on the sticky side, but works beautifully.
Great video! Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much! This was so informative!!!

I think if you really warm your heat gun up, you'll be happy with the results...and if you aren't, email me a photo of it and what you think is wrong, and I'd be more than happy to talk you through it...saundralparker@yahoo.com
I had trouble embossing at first too, so it's definitely not you...I think it just takes a little practice....and if you live in a hot humid climate, your embossing powder can go bad, so if it's clumpy coming out of the container, you might be having trouble because of that too....hope I helped....I'm so glad I can be here to help you...It's not easy when you're learning something new...Sandy

Thank you for the advice. I was wondering what are the first powders to purchase.
Of course, I appreciate that you made my mistakes for me.
Does local humidity have an effect on whether the stamps apply well or not? Thanks for this really informative video!!

Sandy
Sandy voce é muito fofa
Você é tão gentil, obrigado! Sandy

Hi! I’m struggling with bubbles after I’ve heated it. Any suggestions what could be causing this?
I think you might be using a thick embossing powder, or ultra trick. I'd change to fine detail embossing powder and don't put a lot on...you can always add more and reheat if you don't have enough powder, but I think that should solve the bubbling...less might be the answer.
How long have you had RA? Good video by the way!😊
I've had it since I was 22...40+ years. If you have more questions or want to discuss it more, email me at saundralparker@yahoo.com. Thanks for asking.
What is the flower stamp you used?
I don't remember what stamp set it came from, but I'm going to try to figure it out and let you know...Sandy
Bonnie, It took me a little while, but I found it. The stamp is from Fiskars and the set is called "Petals from Scratch." I updated the info for the video to include it as well. Sandy
Thanks for the video. Have you ever thought of teaching at an adult school? College? You are a wonderful teacher
That's so kind of you...No, as much as I love doing videos, the closest I get to teaching, is going back to the college Rich and I graduated from, and do seminars with the college juniors and seniors to prepare them for interviewing. Then I interview each student so they know what to expect in the real world. Thanks for the nice note.
would a pouch pad that you use for quilting stencils work?
