Big thumbs up for playing Hina! 🤘Such a killer use of delay in that tune
Thanks mate, I love that tune!
Outstanding demo mate! Both of these delays are amazing, I own both.
Thanks mate! They’re both top class
This is an excellent video. It would also be interesting to see a direct comparison of certain riffs played on the digital versus the analog, to see if you can accomplish the same sound on either one, or to get a sense of what each one is best suited to. Thanks for this interesting video!
thanks mate! funnily enough I was going to go along those lines, but tbh true Digital and Analog delays are different beasts so it wouldn't be like comparing apples and apples so I went with this approach - showing them in their natural environment as it were with song selections that used either digital or analog to showcase the differences. Glad you enjoyed the vid!
Ah I see you beat me to it
Absolutely excellent demo comparison!!
Thanks so much 😊🤘
Very cool to hear "Hina".... such a great tune (that I had not heard in ages). Sounds awesome!
Thanks man, love that track!
You always do the best pedal demos!!! Shout out form ABQ new Mexico USA!!!
Thanks so much mate, really appreciate it!
another great demo, perfectly showing applications
thanks so much!
Great demo cheers, perfect to compare these two beasts - your lovely riffs make me want both though🤪🤟🏽🎸
thanks mate! haha i know what you mean, two top quality pedals :-)
@@LetsPlayAll and the EVH one as well, oh lord
@@drcockles oh yea that one is badass too especially if you fancy doing the whole wet/dry/wet three amp rig, that ones got extra outputs for that scenario
Awesome video, thank you.
Might consider eventually going for both as they are both great delays in their own right.
welcome! you'd be delighted with either i'm sure, i use them all the time :-)
Excellent video.
Both, always the answer. Strymon DIG on the board, soon to be joined by the DM-101, which will be replacing a couple of other delays.
Nice!
Excellent!
Bravo.
Phil from Dunkirk
Cheers Phil!
I cant wait until i can buy the DM-101. For my style and tastes it an absolute perfect delay. Boss is knocking them out of the park with their delay line up. I would love to own the RE-203, DM-101, and the SDE-3000D
Yea they’re doing some rad stuff for sure! It’s really lovely to be able to do some demos for their stuff 🤘😊
There's also the SDE-3000EVH (Eddie Van Halen signature unit), which has a few more bells and whistles for $100 extra, those being 8 of Eddie's own presets that he actually used back in the day, a dry output so it's wet/dry/wet capable out of the box, and a loop for patching in other effects.
I’m partial to the character of analog delay sounds, but digital has gotten really good at emulating the quirks of analog delays. The new Boss DM-101 uses digital controls to be able to do a lot more than a fully analog delay could ever do, but I don’t typically look for all those extra bells and whistles in a pure analog delay anyway, so it just adds a lot of expensive features that I would be fine just using a digital analog-emulation pedal to achieve. What works best for me is having one simple analog delay like a Deluxe Memory Man or Carbon Copy for my “real” analog delays, and a digital multi effects pedal like a Zoom MS70CDR that has a ton of emulations of bucket brigade and tape echos, for more bells and whistles versatility.
Totally agree
Fair enough mate, end of the day the best option is always the one that works best for you 😀🤘
Analog all the way
I have a Boss GX100. It has many of the same features in the delay blocks. Also, Space echo with 3 heads, and the Tera Echo, which I absolutely love. Touch screen, low latency, great feel. Plus, so much more. Unbeatable unit for $600! Chech it out sometimes.
nice i've heard good things, I've got the Terra Echo on my DD200 i think and that's a really cool effect, love it!
DIGITAL FTW!!! great demo!
Thanks mate!
You can adjust the filter of the SDE 3000 a lot more than in this video and delay amount not as much will sound much better on both units.
I think I would go for the digital delay. But I don't know. At $500 plus tax I think perhaps it might make sense to go in a totally different direction at this price point. For just a little bit more you could pick up a Lexicon PCM80 which is an amazing multiFX unit with so many great sounding algorithms. Lexicon reverb obviously which is world famous but Lexicon chorus algorithm, while less famous, I would argue is one of the nicest ever (not including analogue chorus). And a ton of other stuff in there. I think those classic Lexicon boxes are still far better sounding than anything released on a pedal in recent years.
I choose both.
Haha nice
Now what we really need is to see the Boss DM-101 vs. the EAE Sending!
What’s EAE?
@@LetsPlayAll Electronic Audio Experiments. They’ve got lots of amazing pedals. John Snyder who owns the company and engineers the pedals, worked on the KTR and 1981’s new LVL. His Longsword distortion is awesome and is constantly sold-out.
@@coupe-lee Ahhhh of course haha I do work with John, I've demo'd his Dagger which is amazing :-)
I choose the Space Echo of course.
The lick from Aurora is such a beautiful lick! I prefer the analogue delay. But man, the DM-101 is such an overkill for me! I love it, but I wouldn't be using its full potential, not even close.
The front runner for my next delay is the Meris LVX.
Haven’t tried that sucker yet!
@@LetsPlayAll I have been seeing them for around $500 US used. Its almost more of a multi effect then a delay.
What Pink Floyd song was that ? Please help me out
see description mate - Run Like Hell
Neither. Need 8 delay lines. Its been 20 years since the UD stomp... Whats taking the replacement so long?
Just get one of each.
Analog This updated version does things most have’nt even explored🥳🤩🎸
Hi Hello, I have a Question, can the Boss DM-101 Delay Machine do the EVH presets Boss SDE-3000D Dual Digital Delay ?
Hi! I mean they’re both delays but they don’t have parity in terms of features if that’s what you mean? The dual digital delay has two delay delays effectively so if you’re after the EVH stuff the sde is the way to go
@@LetsPlayAll ow okay thank you ,I was hoping the analog DM-101 (has a pan setting)could do the same thing , but the EVH presets sound to me like simple pan, pingpong , left right left , three repeats ,,, that it only be a bit blurry but warmer - compared to the clean digital repeats
Not nitpicking here, but Brian May used an Echoplex in thenearly days, not an BBD analog unit.
Fair 😊🤘
The SDE-30000D actually has 4 of the rack units inside, the rack units were mono.
oo nice!
My choice is a Boss SDE3000D and an MXR Echoplex!
Should I get the SDE3000 if I already have the RE202?TIA
Depends if you need a digital delay? 😊 my advice would be I’d weigh up the features in the sde with what you actually need and consider your budget too. It’s a dual engine digital delay with a lot of bells and whistles which is fantastic but if you only want a basic digital delay then this would be overkill. Equally if you love analog delay more than digital then the dm101 really is superb and has a bunch of stuff the re202 doesn’t - happy hunting!
@@LetsPlayAll I actually wanted something simple and with presets. Was considering the DM-2W but leaning towards the SDE3000 after seeing your demo. 😝. What I’m gonna do is sell off my RE202 and get the SDE3000. Thanks for this. Yeah!!👍
@@fadlyhans82 cool enjoy!
I have an SDR3000 EVH ordered. I might have to get the DM101 now 🤦🏼♂️. My pedal board will need 2 people to lift it 😂
Haha awesome the EVH model looks great! Yea I’m planning a big home board so I can use these puppies more regularly!
3:13 Hina FTW! 🎉
I have a DD500 :) and I am selling some pedals to get the DM 101 :) I like both types
Nice, DD500 is awesome too!
Whats the song 06:03 ?
Foos Aurora
All we need now is a boss-tron dual phaser.
Haha
I'll take the boss!¿
🤘👍🏿
I class myself as being in the analog camp
Yea I think that too and then I want to play some 80s rock or most grunge, most of that was digital 😊
Analog. Always analog ☺️
I massively regret selling my dd200 do want the analog
Funnily enough I almost sold mine but found a couple of cool tones in it I couldn’t get with my other pedals - the terra echo (I think) setting is superb
The Edge will sell all his delays now 😂😂😂
Hahahaa
Nur Analog für mich!!!
I like both the Space Echo and the SDE-3000
The bigger question is, "Why buy the SDE-3000D instead of the DD-500?" Personally, I'm using a GT-1000Core, but I'd love to hear the DM-101 into the RE-202.
Don’t think the DD-500 does dual delay but the sde3000 is a faithful recreation of a studio std fx processor used on a bunch of recordings so not a like for like comparison tbh 🤘
@@LetsPlayAll The DD 500 does in fact do dual delay.
@@masterofreality230 nice I was thinking the DD200 I think - good to know!
I haven't compared them, but according to boss, they spent a lot of time working on the SDE's analog components too, to get the tone/sound quality just right.
Only analog
go with your bad self ;-)
Hi Matt. Glad you got paid for this :) But I wouldn't buy either of these Boss pedals. I much TC Electronics delays. Flashback 2 and 4 have toneprints, are smaller and have better tones imo. If you want Analog Delay (I don't) then Carbon Copy is better too. Plus, there's another 50 delay pedals better than anything Boss make imo :)
I like the flashback too, have the x4 but its defo not smaller 😀 End of the day you like what you like and that’s cool 🤘😊
Did Boss pee in your soup?
I would choose a Meris LVX for my next delay, but Boss is doing some game changing things in the delay game. Name a single delay pedal that has routing for wet/dry/wet like the evh version of the sde 3000 or a stereo analog delay like the dm 101. I would love to be proven wrong.
You lost me at Carbon Copy.
Digital delays are beautiful but only please my ear. Analogue delays please my ear and my soul. Team Analogue 💪
I'd say neither of these... get the DD500 which does both really well.
I'm sick and tired of the phony "digital vs. analog" BS. It's all marketing.
Well yes any video demo has an element of marketing for sure. But i was using that as a way of showcasing the differences. They’re very different sounding types of delay and depending on the bands you like should help inform which ones most appropriate
I’m not sure I follow your point @davemish4163. Great demo showcasing the different sounds of analog vs digital delay. Both absolutely killer in their own way. Boss have nailed this!
So are you saying there’s no difference explain your statement or are you just an angry person
Whether a player prefers analog delay or digital, there are so many choices available. That's the big story. I love analog delays, but I also have digital delays.
@@steverherb Man, there sure are a lot of pissy guitar players out here today in this videos comments.
YA, that’s all well and good BOSS but what are your preferred pronouns??
BOSS
I'd like Boss to get back into innovation in their drives and distortions, especially in non-digital stuff.
