That made me so emotional. I live in a huge metro...just tonight there was an assault in my neighborhood. That act of kindness had a profound impact on me. Reminds of the America that I love...and is slipping away.

@@lastpolarbearcub Well first, buildings are burning so many are not peaceful (I'm for all the peaceful protests). But the point is not a debate about protests, that despite whatever conflict, there are still kind people. That is all.

I was raised by a dad who didn't really even know how to use a screwdriver (an exaggeration but you know what I mean). However, I was lucky to marry a man who knows it all because he was raised by a father who built his own houses and taught his kids how to do everything. But...he didn't teach our son how to do any of these things. :( Our son is a concert pianist and a computer programmer and isn't interested in using a screwdriver or any tools for that matter. My point is I hope you are showing your kids how to do all these things. I know they are young but as they get older make sure they get exposure to all this. Your kids will thank you for it! Blessings to you all!

Aww, Tom's decision to have a good attitude about a miserable situation. Love it! "I'm going to take this opportunity to make this the sweetest little camper ever." I especially like how he reframes the problem into an "opportunity". I need that mindset more.

The video where you found the water damage and then fixed was huge for me! We bought an RV a year ago and I was a wreck every time we used it that we might “ruin” something. Your videos showed me that literally EVERYTHING could be fixed! I have had so much less anxiety when camping since then! Thanks for your transparency! Love your channel!

Love your renovation! My friend bought a travel trailer, thinking she could take her family on little get-always. They took out the back wall and found mold, then more mold, and then more till a complete renovation was required. She called it her “COVID project” as it took over three months. Fortunately she lives on a farm with a large pole barn and was able to keep it dry during the renovation. We were thrilled when she took it on a maiden journey to the beach. She made it camping twice. Just recently her son, who is an experienced driver, had an unfortunate mishap on the freeway that was not his fault. The “COVID project” was totaled. She was thankful no one was injured. God bless you along your journey!

We bought our 35 ft. Class A motorhome brand new in 1996, and we've cared for it really well. No one would believe it is 24 years old... until they see the 1990's decor inside! I cannot convince my husband that it is seriously out of date, and I really want to redo the interior. He's just not having any of it, and I'll be lucky if I can get him to agree to a new couch. (Actually, the couch is very good quality and very comfortable, so I'd be happy with having it recovered.)
I also want white cabinetry, but he feels like covering the natural woods would practically be criminal. No matter how many gorgeous makeovers I've shown him, he wants nothing to do with remodeling it. I'm discouraged!

I will say, we have a hybrid camper, dry weight is 3520, and we tow it with a 2020 Chevy Colorado, it has the tow package, as well as a trailer brake (integrated). Rated to haul 7k lbs and we have done a few drives over 5hrs, including one to the ouachita mountains in Arkansas, didn't have any issues other than gas being eaten up fast. Key is to keep the rpms under 4k. Let people pass, be a grandpa driver. It hurts the ego, but better than the pocket book! Also get a sway bar, helps greatly with the trailer in high speeds and crosswinds.

I love your end product. I sat on the edge of my seat sipping coffee as I watched you remove the flooring. I bought a mobile home years ago that had water damage in the bathroom and the smell and frustration of removing what I called the consistency of a twice baked oatmeal cookie. I loved your attitude about taking this lemon and making a lemon chiffon dessert. I hope you and your family are able to enjoy the fruits of your efforts for quite some time.

After years of owning a camper, a trailer, and a Class A motorhome, we decided to rent motorhomes and we loved taking our vacations and road trips in a well-maintained, newer rig that we did not have to service, wash, repair, generally maintain, and license year after year! However, we do have fond memories in each. 😊

Kristie W ...anywhere from $800 to $2500 for 7-10 days. So many variables...size, location, season...much cheaper for us to rent an RV twice a year. Of course, for those who glamp more, owning may be the cheapest option.

Rented a Cruise America twice...would NEVER rent again! Yes, they are newer, but NOT maintained well at all...had serious electrical problems, ruined our vacation as I was constantly on the phone with them trying to resolve the issue (we ended up staying in hotels)..they were very difficult to work with and when we returned it to the dealer, they were cleaning it up for the next renter without even fixing it!! We just bought a used Class C and just returned from a 6 week vaca..it was awesome!

My brother tore the carpet out of the bedroom and between the door and seats in my full-time class A Winnie, and we're putting vinyl stick on tiles over the existing "linoleum".
He cut the carpet back so now when the slide is pulled in the only carpet is in the cab section. I don't usually put the slide out when I'm traveling and wouldn't have electricity to vacuum the rugs.
Also, less anxiety with putting the litterbox behind the passenger seat now that it's on vinyl, she likes to perch daintily on the edge of the box, facing in. She's a monster.

It depends on the piece and how much traffic it gets. You can get great antiquing effects with different colored waxes, but wax does wear off after awhile and needs to be reapplied. Polyurethane or polycyclic is best for high-traffic pieces, like bathroom or kitchen cabinets.

We bought a camper and regretted buying it. The guy lied to us about the age and there were things that needed to be fixed. We are not physically able to do the work, but I try to always see the positive side of things instead of the negative. Our oldest is now living in the camper until they can get back on their feet. We're now going to try to get a cargo trailer and turn it into a tiny house. With watching your videos on simple living, I am looking forward to this journey!

We discovered soft floors in our RV and spent t more than a month trying to dry up under the floors, water literally squishing up through screw holes from fixed furniture. We ended up with a comp, ete remodel! We're loving the changes from the new subflooring to removal of bed, dinette, couch and starting from scratch!

We painted walls in kitchen/living/dining area, hall and into bathroom in a very pale gray. We left the wood paneling, red cedar color, and it works for us. Just painting the walls is HUGE! Bedroom not painted and really noticable and ugly! We also removed dinette and instead built in a shelving unit with a collapsible leaf top which goes up to be our table and down to secure things on the shelves!

We redid a smaller trailer. My husband, myself and our then 4 yr old. A lot of time and work. First night out we froze inside!! You could hear the dear sneezing thru the outside wall 😉 We sold it and since it was only the 3 of us we motel-ed (is that a word?!?). Then a few yrs later we rented an RV and drove from CA to St Louis. By the time we got there I was ready to take a train home!!! Your kids will have memories for a life time! (I would like to ask where you found the beautiful butcher block!) TFS

Haha welcome to camping in Texas. I've been living in my camper in west Texas for 2 years now. It is all pretty much all parking lots with hook ups. Love your reno and saving the video for ideas for mine

If you haven't done so, put new 8 to 10-ply tires. We had a brand new Paradise Point and had a 2 blow outs between Mobile and Houston on I-10.

I love the way that you decorated your camper. Linens, charcoal paint color...can you do a slower look-see of the pillows, curtains etc...that's my style. I love the entire camper...but the decor...even the basket selection is perfect. Your daughter did an amazing job on the bunk house mountain range...brilliant.

Being someone that has camped since I was 9 months old....Not sure if I would have purchased a trailer with the extension like that. You usually have to do maintenance on awnings or those canvas type slide outs because they do get old.
Other than that, what's you've done is great.
Making sure you winterize it properly is important too.....and don't leave food in a trailer after the camping season is over.
I think you have to get used to camping If you've never done that before.....I'm one of those campers that loves the outdoors, our trailer was only used for sleeping. We cooked over the fire, did a lot of outdoor things....even relaxing outdoors is great!

Super cute! I love everything that you did!! I love the mountains in the bunkhouse! That is such a bummer about the mold though!!
We bought a used 5th wheel camper 3 years ago and have done major renovations inside, (and are not done! LOL) we LOVE it!! The kids have a bunkhouse, the biggest space in the camper, we have our own room and bath, which is awesome! It was a great deal because the very small RV dealer that had it on their lot (for quite some time) had dropped the price many times because the camper is so heavy, they weren't finding anyone that could haul it, major advantage for us! . . . and they even dropped it a little more to entice us! LOL
OUR only regret is that we wish we had bought it sooner when the kids were still little. They are 16 (girl) and 19 (boy) but still love to go with us. It's a little harder now too, because our son is working full time, he has missed some trips because of that. :O( When the kids are done going with us we will trade it for something smaller and hopefully get to travel!
We LOVE camping! We mostly go in the winter (in Ohio) . . . so peaceful and beautiful. My husband and I did get to go out this past Feb (a no kid trip) and we had a snow storm while we were out, it was SO weird! We arrived on a Wed. it was in the 50s . . started snowing that afternoon and the temp dropped, kept snowing for two days, and then ice, at night it was 7* . . . and by Sunday when we were leaving it was 40s and most of the snow was gone and the sun was shining! It was beautiful and romantic! :OD (sorry this got kinda long)

Looks very nice, I don't usually like white but since you used the black colour also it really looks nice. Only white is so boring and dull..the layout is really nice, the bar-table is cool and the kids room got so cool!

    Hi from WI!
I’ve been watching you for 1.5 years and enjoy your videos. We have 4 children as well and this is our 3rd summer with a Jayco hybrid as well. We too would not buy a hybrid again, we’ve been dreaming of buying a Class C Jayco. You did a great job on the make over! Anxious to hear if you enjoy camping and will continue in a new camper!

Haha!!! What a funny (not when it happened though) story!! Memories! We bought a second hand caravan, and then new caravan some years later. Decided tent camping is what we preferred. Due to my leg (medical) I cannot sleep on the floor anymore, the leg also doesn’t circulate properly which means I’m always freezing at night no matter how many sleeping bags I use. We are right now, doing up a van to travel and sleep in. Can’t wait!

So Don I am going to try the paint method on fabric and I just wanted to say that from the research I’ve done you could try putting some wax on your couch and it may soften the paint so that it’s more enjoyable. I watched a gal on TH-cam that painted it on straight like that and she was a bit skeptical when the paint dried, but after applying a “thin” coat of wax it looked amazing and felt fantastic 👍🏻

It turned out so cute!! I’d love to paint our campers, but my husband isn’t on board with the work. One is 35’ with 3 slides, and our guest camper is 30’. We’ve decided at this stage it’ll just be easier to buy a newer one. When you upgrade you’d probably really appreciate a slide. They add SO much space and not tons of weight. Can’t wait to see what kind you get next!

I'm in the process of 'fixing' a vintage 10 ft fiberglass camper. It is soooo small. In theory I had lots of ideas but in actuality 'limited storage' means no storage. I've watched a few of your videos and was hoping you'd have some ideas of bare necessities for the 'kitchen.'. I'm taking out the propane stuff. It makes me uneasy. So I'm going to do solar and use a hot plate(I seldom cook with more than one burner anyway). If I'd realized how much work was involved in the fixing up, I might not have bought mine either. (you two are adorable)

Thanks for this super helpful video. I don't like the wallpaper strip in our RV either, so learning that it can be painted over is terrific! I want to paint it a cream color, and then stencil over it. The wallpaper on the rest of the RV walls is fine, so customizing it will just make me happy. That will allow me to stencil different designs in the bathroom from what I put in the bedroom too. What a pleasant idea for cheering it up! Thanks again for your creativity and good ideas.

I wish the people that sold you this would see this and compensate you for some of the problems. It would only be fare. But I guess it is "Buyer Beware". I'm so sorry you had to go through all this, but it will make you better people in the long run and you are the type that always learns from your mistakes and come out on the other side, better for having gone through this. i would have been a bit upset at the place that sold you the camper. Didn't disclose mold issue and that would be disheartening. Ended up with lots of work, time and money. I feel you all did a great job getting it back to useful. Thanks for sharing and reminding people of pitfalls of purchasing a camper that was used. Such a great job and appreciate your story and that you now can enjoy your camper.
