Electrolysis is not the best method for cleaning silver coins. Please note that this coin has been through a fire and is heavily oxidized. Therefore, the cleaning method I chose has cleaned the coin quite well.

Too difficult. Silver Roman coins must be cleaned with citric acid or electrolysis. If there are deposits of metallic copper on the coin, ferric chloride is used

And how would you recommend cleaning this coin? Taking into account the fact that it was after exposure to fire and with strong oxidation.

Tap water is a no-no, folks. Distilled water and careful, methodical mechanical cleaning with diamond-dust bits under a stereo microscope.
Terima kasih sudah mengedukasi yang berguna..
My favorite part was when they used a toothpick with "mud" on it to add dirt back onto the coin, then wiped it off with a muddy q-tip.
Everything took place in sterile conditions... LOL
😂😂😂
Nice, gimme link this ablator ultrasounds pls
It's ultrasonic dental scaler.
I'm a newcomer to all this, but doesn't the acid remove the patina? Isn't the patina something that should be preserved?
Yes, at least thats what a majority of the pro collectors and cleaners say.
What kind of coin is it and what do the words say on the coin please.
IMHO it's antoninianus Herennia Etruscilla, letters - HER ETRVSCILLA AVG
Hi, I’m curious what is that blue jelly you’re using? The etching gel.?

coin after fire, and heavily oxidized
It depends on who wants what when it comes to artwork - yes, it's more than just a coin.
So before is x10 times more valuable than after in this case??

Hi. Is the powder that is sprinkled on top of the Etching gel application baking soda? Thank you
Yes, baking soda is needed to neutralize the effect of the acid.
@@Rusty_Artifacts_Restoration Muchas gracias.
What is the powder you sprinkle on?
Sodium bicarbonate
What tools did you use? Just looking to see where I can also grab them :)
For cleaning, I use a dental ultrasonic scaler - Woodpecker UDS-L LED.
Thanks for that, got some dental gel as well so will give a coin a go :)
good job bro...!!!

That was depressing to see, distilled water and toothpick is where its at!
👍👍👍

I think a laser would be better for cleaning a coin like this.
I don't have Laser Cleaner :(

You didn't watch the entire video in vain. The first step is always small but crucial for all further coin cleaning. :)

Electrolysis would be faster and more cost effective.
Electrolysis is effective for applying patina, but I wouldn't recommend using it for cleaning.
Master coin cleaning 😂😂😂😂😂 no need for any that much easier non destructive ways !!!
😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
...where is age patina...?
Considering that the coin was exposed to a fire and had very strong oxidation, it was not possible to preserve the patina.
Easier and better result with electrolysis.

That's not oxidation, just dirt
No, it's not dirt but heavy oxidation. If it were just dirt, I would have rinsed it off under water.
I thought coins were to be cleaned without removing the patina?
You can re-patina chemically coins, metal work artists do it.
Do coin collectors accept a re-patina over preserving an original? Can you tell the difference?

Hi
This silver coin had significant and strong oxidation after the fire, so I'm not sure if cleaning it under a microscope would yield a good result.

Nope. It was after the fire and with strong oxidation.
