Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), the star athlete at a small-town high school, falls for nerdy beauty Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Anne Hudgens) at a holiday karaoke party. When they return to campus, Troy and Gabriella audition for the upcoming school musical. Meanwhile, the jealous Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale) conspires to squelch their chances. The two must struggle to make it to auditions while also meeting their existing obligations to the basketball team and the academic decathlon.

This movie is such a nostalgia ride. Zac Efron's amazing in this, Sharpay is one of the few meangirl characters I actually like, and I can't tell you how many times "Status Quo" has gotten stuck in my head. I even sang it in a stage version in high school.
Of course they're lip syncing the songs, and then recording them afterwards, when they're focused, relaxed, and not jumping and dancing around all out of breath, It's a movie, not a live singing concert. That's fine for me, but people who cannot sing well live, acapella and acoustic, aren't good singers in my opinion, autotune is fine for perfection, but not for real singing.

Sharpay meets up with Zeke, she’s tried his cookies and says they’re the best things she’s ever tasted and asks him to make more. He says he might make her a creme brulee!
Zac didn’t actually sing in this movie. The songs were sung by Drew Seeley. But Zac does ACTUALLY sing in the sequels.
He also did the bit where he showed up on her balcony.
Drew Seeley did the live concert show and was in "Another Cinderella story". IMO Drew is 1,000 times hotter than Zac

I kept getting reminded of that one suite life of zack and Cody episode where they were doing HSM for a school play and Maddie (Ashley Tisdale) was auditioning for Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and everyone kept saying she didn’t look anything like Ashley Tisdale😭😂
I saw past the joke, and I was like “The only reason she looks like Sharpay is because she IS sharpay!”.
And she still got to be part of the play.
Little fun fact: Corbin Bleu is a Musical Theatre Actor aswell, so him playing Chad, someone who hates Musicals, is so funny cause you can tell that he can move and sing well in the movie/s 😅

Darbus' whole thing is that the theater is essentially her whole life, and her objections are mainly coming from not wanting to waste her time with people who aren't going to take it seriously.
Thats why she gives them the callback, and why she lets them perform at the end. They proved they're not just some kids goofing around.
Fun fact for you Cody. Behind the scenes revealed that Lucas Grabeel and Ashley Tisdale, Sharpay and Ryan, actually didn't get along at all. Ashley acted too much like Sharpay did here. But now they are actually great friends.
This movie basically sparked the teen musical genre to many movies and TV shows. Even the TV show Glee can be compared to this movie sometimes. So, next time you see teenagers singing in a high school in a movie or TV show, you know who to thank. High School Musical.
I often sing the song "When there was me and you", cause if fits perfectly the entire range of my chest voice in the original key, coming from a guy who cannot sing several of the other songs, due to the high notes, why you can NEVER compare singers with difference singing ranges, It's the only thing preventing from singing the really big songs with the really high and powerful notes, and then my breathing technique sucks too, mostly cause I NEVER breathe through my mouth, when singing or not, only through my nose, breathing through you mouth is so unhealthy, for getting sick, and just inhaling all the polluting particles in the air coming from modern society.
Cody's energy was just addictive, how can you not have fun with this movie while Cody is dancing in his chair
I used to be OBSESSED with High School Musical. I bought up a lot of the merchandise, including the singing Troy and Gabriella dolls,and a High School Musical themed magic 8 ball!
Did not expect this at all and I’m 100% here for reliving my childhood and drowning in the nostalgia 🙌🏻😭
The 3rd HSM is my favorite. It actually got a full cinematic budget too and it shows. Zac Efron actually gets to sing for himself too which is nice (he had to fight for that).
There’s one movie that inspired for “High School Musical” movie, “Grease” is the first musical at school

I still remember when this movie came out! Everyone at my school was singing the songs (myself included XD) I still remember learning the choreography for Get'cha Head in the Game and We're All In This Together with the HSM Dance-Along where Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel taught the choreo for the chorus of those two songs!

This movie was a staple in mine and my sister's childhood! We grew up on this. I did sports in middle and high school, while my sister did drama. So we both had our own moments growing up. With this movie, all of our friends come from all parts of school, no matter what clubs you join. This brings back the good memories of that! ☺☺
I didn’t like having the flip phones. We had to repeatedly press keyboard buttons in order to get the correct letter when we were texting someone. Thank goodness we have iPhones with digital keyboards now.
Out of the 2nd and 3rd movie, I'd say the 2nd has the best songs and the 3rd has the best story.
For once, a trilogy actually felt like it was concluded properly.

in 2006 when it was popular I was a teen in high school when it came out and if you were a teenager when this movie came out, it meant you were lucky to be a teenager, this movie is good.

High School Musical 2 is my favorite of the trilogy since it screams summer plus Sharpay's song Fabulous is so iconic 😄✨🌸🎶💕

THIS MOVIE was my whole life. In the days before DVR and even if you weren't well off enough for TiVO, whej this came on, it was everything. THEN when it came on again with the DANCE -A-LONG, i still remember the moves for We're All in this Together.

I grew up with the HSM trilogy. I was 10-11 years old when the first movie came out. My sister was 8 years old, so we loved watching them together and bonding over them. I’m 28 now and still consider these movies an integral part of my childhood- and I still know the lyrics to most of the songs! 😅 good times
My two favorite songs are “We’re All In This Together” and “Breaking Free”.

I think you are right when you say the "were all in this together" song is the most popular. Had to perform and learn the dance in middle school for our Showcase of Stars, which is where every school in the county performed a musical performance. To this day I will randomly have the song and dance just pop in my head.

I've seen Vanessa Hudgens (Gabriella) in this true life story movie, called Gimme Shelter, it was released in 2013 and I did NOT recognize her at first until half way during the movie! I definitely recommend it.
The other musical movie I've seen Zac Efron in (apart from greatest showman) is Hairspary.

When I would come home from school, I’d watch hsm everyday. My mom was sick of hearing it 😂 They were and still are the best, even if it’s predictable. I hope you react to the other two. HSM1&3 are my fav.
Oh man brings back memories. I remember going to school play Radio Disney in my father’s car and sing along HSM music and wishing that I was in high school. Great reaction.
Status quo- hard to believe its been about 20 years since this mindset of sticking to one thing was a big thing. If you ever want to go into some more old Disney movies I recommend Eddie’s Million dollar cook off, when i watched that last year i had total shock. I forgot that it is still a recent thing for men to not be considered feminine when they want to cook even though most chefs are men. We may still be having issues, but dang we have come a long way.

Nostalgia
While the film only came out 15 years ago, I felt a high amount of nostalgia watching High School Musical again. It was exciting to see the start of something new (pun absolutely intended) and the Disney Channel juggernaut that came from it.
The story was straightforward and predictable, the acting was mediocre, and the script was incredibly cringey at times, but I can forgive all of that because of the music. Every song in this film is a karaoke classic that I blasted in my mom's car to and from middle school. While it is not a cinematic masterpiece, this film brings back sentimental feelings and memories that make it a family favorite.
“It feels like they lip-syncing” yeah bud, did you actually believe they were singing so perfectly. Sometimes i just ignore comments like that, but that just made me laugh.
Watching these makes me think of another movie you'd probably enjoy, Lemonade Mouth. Probably my favorite of the Disney musicals around this era, such a fun movie with pretty entertaining songs and a good story imo.
One of the best christmas gifts I got was a ticket to go see high school musical the concert

This is my all time favorite Disney Channel Movie. The songs are so catchy and amazing. I remember being obsessed with this movie in Middle School. I love singing the Songs, Dancing their moves and Daydream about meeting someone Special. My Favorite Song is 'We're all in this together'. I love it.
I actually had participated in a musical and it was the High School Musical. I had so much fun doing the musical with my theater family.

The second movie is the best out of the trilogy, also Ryan is a gay icon! The director Kenny Ortega wanted Ryan to be Gay but Disney didn’t want to straight up (no pun intended) say that

Now you gotta check out High School Musical: The Musical: The Series! It's actually really great, I didn't expect much from it but I ended up loving it. It's not a reboot of the movies, it's a show based off a drama club that performs High School Musical for their school play.

I remember seeing this when I was I think a freshman in high school. So this movie has a special place in my heart. I know exactly what it’s like to have a parent teach school ( my mom was a teacher for special kids) so I thought I could get away with a lot, but I do know what Tory feels like to not have his parent support his dream, while my mom supports whatever I do, she’s not exactly accepting of my sexuality which is part hetroflexible part bisexual, so I kind of understand how Tory feels afraid to tell his father. Because even though I’ve told my mom about my sexuality she doesn’t take it seriously, she thinks it’s a phase, like most parents who don’t understand sexuality say… but yeah I totally relate to tory being so afraid to tell his dad in this movie

High School Musical was a fun and great film with great music and the cast was fun to watch. Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are so cute together in this film.

There was a few years between when I watched the first movie and the second (which I just saw a few days ago). Don't know why it took that long, but it was definitely worth it! I absolutely love 2, looking forward to seeing 3 in a few weeks and I'm actually tempted to see the Sharpay spinoff movie at some point :)

In middle school/high school everyone was talking about which character was their crush. I’m asexual but no clue then. So I decided on Ryan “because he’s the best singer.” Lol
