You ran a whole marathon AND you were sick, on top! You, Robbie, are a bloody brilliant man. I hope you're able to rest up, at home, now and celebrate a well-deserved win with your loved ones :) thanks for sharing!
You are literally the reason I'm out running 5ks regularly now mate, I always come back to these videos for a bit of motivation, I'll be running these distances one day
thank you for showing the emotional side of this, i had something similar the other day, did a 30 mile walk and almost started crying, i felt an overwhelming urge to cry, learnt a lot thank you
You’re an inspiration Robbie, 99% of people wouldn’t have been able to push on (including me) but you did! I know for a fact everyone is proud of you 💪
The fact that you still managed to finish even with a virus and heat exhaustion shows how mentally tough you are, it's an immense mental battle doing a marathon even without those going against you. Well done Robbie, it was heartbreaking seeing you crying at the end there. You should be very proud!
Probably not what you had wanted it to be with all your training etc but you’ve completed another marathon should be proud. Great video summary. Well done.
Hi Robbie what a great effort to even complete the marathon. It's a scary feeling when heat exhaustion hits you on top of a virus. You should be proud of yourself mate
Amazing effort Robbie - nothing like pushing yourself to the max! When I ran my first half marathon last year, I kept feeling like I was going to cry on the last 2km and I wasn’t sure why. Crossing the finish line I burst into tears 😂 well done on the marathon!
I have my first marathon in a few weeks in Manchester, and have been unable to train for almost 2 weeks with reoccurring shin splints. Now doing a phased return to running but still feeling anxious about race day. Thanks for being so transparent and honest in this video, it’s really encouraging. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼
Well done Robbie! It's a mega hard task in the crappy UK weather, nevermind the glorious sunshine in Italy whilst battling a cold! Onto the next one 💪🏽
Last 10k is the most relatable marathon footage I’ve seen. They beat you up, even without the virus 😬 Well done champ, hope the next one brings more smiles 💪🏻
Heat exhaustion is brutal! I remember I got it on a day trip to Athens visiting the Acropolis and it was horrendous, so I'm glad you're doing a lot better now and well done for battling on and completing the race! That medal is so cool too! Rome is my favourite city and loved seeing the beach and the marathon as I've never done either before
I ran my first marathon in Edinburgh last year because of you Robbie! You are a true inspiration and have yet again made me look into the potential of running the one in Rome too! ...so thanks for that 😅
What an incredible achievement Robbie, especially with the factors going against you. You completed something that only 0.01% of the population each year have!
Been there done that and cried at the end! Its when you cross that finish line that you realize how bloody hard it was and you cannot control the emotions. Time is not important, you finished and thats all that matters! Congrats Robbie!
@@RobbieKnox very much so! You learn so much about the human mind and body when you complete a marathon in testing circumstances. Congrats again, as a 40yr old Dad of three boys myself you have inspired me to dust off my running shoes and get back out on the road (not a treadmill like Stevie!) - been a fan since soccer am many moons ago and now tune in to hear you on the Happy Hour pod! Best of luck to you!!
Well done for completing a marathon, Robbie, especially under those circumstances. It is probably only after you've had such an experience that we learn to start listenjng to ouf bodies more. I hope your recovery is going well. I was slso in Rome over the weekend, the was a far smaller event on Monday starting in the Vatican, the evening flight had several people on it moving rather stiffly. Keep up the good work.
Heat Exhaustion ‘I wouldn’t recommend it’ 😂 Such a fantastic display of grit, you don’t often associate such happy go lucky guys with toughness but 99.9% of people would’ve packed that in and not finished. Just when we thought Robbie couldn’t be anymore of a hero. 🦸♂️ Well done 👏
You should do the sparkasse 3 lander marathon in October! It's crosses 3 countries (austria,Switzerland and germany). I done it last year and it was great, amazing views and has a mini concert before the race start. Really interesting and different marathons that you'd enjoy
Hey Robbie, FirmestTadpole here! Just wanted to say MEGA proud of our MEGA Robbie! You are an inspiration to us all mate, no idea how you do it. Hope to see you again (In Cardiff this time) in a couple of months! Take care :D
This was me too at the Rome marathon last Sunday. I felt so unwell. I was shivering and wretching and really struggled. Heat exhaustion is awful. Thank you so much for sharing your video. A very honest account. It was my 3rd time doing Rome and a very different experience to the previous times (one in torrential rain). The start was chaos. Hopefully they'll sort it out for next year. Huge congratulations for finishing when you were feeling so rough x
It has grown a lot but I think other problems contributed to the busy start, this year. As you know they had the Italian Prime Minister there, so roads were closed early and we all had to be in the start area early. I also heard that last minute road works caused problems for the organisers. The previous times I have done it the start was very relaxed and we sauntered along to the bag drop and start area. My favourite start was at the Colosseum (where it also ended). This year didn't compare sadly. Hopefully the 30th Rome Marathon in 2025 will be better. Possibly the relay also made a difference?
Robbie!! Seeing you cry is heartbreaking. You absolutely smashed it though. Bloody good going! Can't wait to see you again in May (btw it's Ruby Rose, I just changed my @)
What an absolute legend as always! Incredible inspiration. I completed my first ever marathon last year and seeing Robbie smash yet another marathon is inspiring me to do another
You did amazing Robbie! Currently training for my first half marathon and this was refreshing to see someone so honest about the highs and lows of it x
Mate, well done. Unbelievable effort. I am even more impressed given my hair is a similar length and you did 26 miles without a hairband and/or tying it up. Kills me doing exercise without them for even 5 minutes never mind 5 hours. Chapeaux.
Great video! Spotted myself in the background 🙌🏻 at the start by the toilets small space to warm up in 😂 I was exactly the same had a virus I know since coming back and Garmin telling me not to run on the day! But as it was my first marathon and being in Italy I had to..the heat was unbelievable at times and I struggled massively with it! So well done you on what was a really tough Marathon 👍🏻
Nice one Robbie for still getting through it, you're an inspiration! I unfortunately had to leave the patreon last month as the "cossie livs" has taken a toll on my spending, but loving the content here still! Keep up the great work!!
Thank you for your videos Robbie - really looking forward to seeing you this year in Edn, i was so regretful i missed the round sheep tour and was over the moon to see a second tour.
I done this last Sunday too. This marathon made me very emotional too. I think a combination of a lack of space at the beginning, the course measuring about 2km long on my garmin, the heat and the same congestion and lack of shade and loud music at the finish area. This one had me crying in a number of occasions. However it was a day I will not forget!
I was also in Rome - The heat was brutal. For you to get through that race in what is still a very good time, in those sorts of conditions, all the more credit to you. 100% in agreement on facilities as well - I travelled with a group of people, and the toilet situations was a nightmare, especially for the ladies (Some were told to simply do their business in a bush - Not ok!). Keep up the awesome work.
Congrats on finishing the race! My wife and I always flew 14 hours from the states and did not have a great day either. Unfortunately it looks like we got very unlucky with the weather.. was expecting 4-6c but we got 21c -- it was just too hot to do anything out there. As you mentioned in the video, the race felt like they accepted way more runners than they should have. It should have been capped and registration closed, but it was way too many people. The start area with all the large trucks made no sense, and they needed to at least double the amount of bathrooms in the starting line. The bathrooms at some of the aid station only had 1 toilet as well. We had planned to follow a pacer, but with the congestion in the start line and on the course, it was too difficult to even get to them. Overall it was still a fun experience, but not a race we'll be coming back to.
Really enjoyed the honesty and realism of this! I really want to do the rome marathon next year with having done 3 half marathons now. Is the course fun or would you recommend something else!
Hi Robbie, I also ran the marathon in Rome, in fact it was my first marathon ever and like you I also got heat exhaustion (at least that was my self diagnosis post race with the assistance of google). Luckily i did not push myself and walked quite a bit. But I can relate to your experience.
Your children have some father to look up to and be inspired by, amazing from you Robbie🏆
Thanks champ. x
Fair play to you mate for battling on!
Thanks!
Avid competitive marathon runner here; I always cry at the end of marathons, it never gets old! Well done for getting it done mate!!
Thanks pal!
What a man! No jokes. You pushed yourself to the bitter end. Well done sir. Takes a man to upload himself crying to. X
Thanks pal. It was a crazy day.
Running a marathon is pretty impressive, running a marathon while ill in very hot weather is extremely impressive in a different way. Nice one Robbie.

Fair play, Sir Knox. Marathons are rough at the best of times, made harder with heat exhaustion. Another top video from you.
