Legendary combo here. You should do a series, as you are both lovely people who don't take things too seriously. Good vibe to watch on a Sunday evening. God bless
You two are brilliant together. So glad I found your channels. You bring some much needed calm and charm (I'll let you decide who is which) to the world. Thank you.
Nieve has such a fun, down to earth personality, she's a great companion for this series. Not really giving a shit about football I would never have been introduced to her without Robbie. For the same reason I wouldn't have known about Robbie if it wasn't for putting the bins out or a wormery or something.
Bridge inn is my local, sandal castle is a stone throw away from my house, can see belle vue ground from my window, its brilliant to see people come to our city and enjoy it! Love wakey and living here
Literally saw you both while I was on the bus near trinity walk lol. Was wondering why you was in Wakefield I thought they must have got lost on the way to leeds lol.
Wakefield is actually where the word 'nonce' originated (or Wakefield prison to be more exact). It was an acronym that stood for Not On Normal Courtyard Exercise and was written on the cell cards of prisoners who may have been at risk of being attacked by other prisoners (and the meaning of the word kind of gives away the reason why...)
@@dariusftw3378He's telling the truth im from Wakefield and there was a documentry on Wakefield prison a couple of years ago what proved this guy correct
Its known as monster mansion because of the high number of serious sex offenders there also look up robert maudsley hes in a glass fronted cell in wakefield prison and has been in solitary confinement over 40 years @dariusftw3378
I lived in Wakefield for three years when I attended Bretton Hall University; therefore, I loved a walk around Wakey with you two. ❤ We used to do the Westgate Run (pub & club crawl) every weekend, and it was bloody fantastic! Foundation and Buzz Bar were the best clubs in those days. 😅
the road behind you at the castle is called manygates lane which is acrually the route the yorkists took to battle and is potentially where richard was cut down. this is also the battle that the grand old duke of york rhyme might be based off and if you go to north yorkshire you'll find towton where edward beat henry vi, avenging his father and becoming king of england
if theres ever a cause to get behind its lady Stuntpegs fight to bring the meal deals down to 3 pounds!!! Nieve is so funny! yet another great video Mr Knox!
Belle Vue ...remember enjoying the rugby league games in the early 80s despite the bone chilling cold, biting wind and horizontal rain. Very true what you say, the centre is quite small but there are lots of interesting things to do within an easy 5 or 6 mile radius. The coal mining museum is really worth a visit, maybe 20 minutes on the bus from Westgate station! 🚌
I had a curious day out to Wakefield in the late 90s, while my friends were away at a music festival (I was a bit too poor, anti-social and nervous to join them). Got a radical haircut and was intrigued by the Franken-animals by Charles Waterton at the local museum (no longer in there I think). Also bought a pipe from the Black Swan Shoppe - a memorable excursion..
I have lived in Wakey since 1998 and adore its charms. When i arrived, it had a night life second to none and a historical backdrop that needs to be remembered can you name me a city that has more pubs in a straight mile. Wakefield is rough but it is also beautiful
A'reyt Robbie. I am a StuntPegg subscriber living near Wakefield, though from Bradford originally, on the other side of the Rhubarb Triangle, which I was surprised you missed. Please bring Nieve back to do a Five Towns video, as I enjoyed this. It could be like a Rugby League excursion for her. My home district, Manningham, were the first champions, but are now Bradford City. Welcome to my world. You could contact Catherine Warr for some local knowledge?
16:19 I was actually surprised (and quite relieved) that Wakey Wines didn't make the video, especially considering Nieve obviously knows about it. Wakefield is top 5 nicest cities in Europe, glad you enjoyed it.
What about the empty boarded up shops opposite the cathedral, we once had a thriving market, long gone, we had shops, long gone, all that is left an empty shopping centre, Trinity new "shopping centre" main shop Debenhams gone, The Ridings, again once a thriving shopping centre, gone we are left with a city full of charity shops, coffee shops, empty buildings, homeless on the streets, have lived Wakefield most of my life a once pround city gone to pot.
The nursery rhyme The Grand Old Duke of York came from the Battle of Wakefield there. Richard marched down the hill thinking the Lancashire Army had gone. He was beheaded, his head put on a spike with a paper crown and it was stuck on a spike at one of the Barrs (Gates) in York.
I can’t wait to visit Wakefield. I’m a Wakefield Trinity Rugby League fan. Can’t wait to see them play in person. I wear my Wakey kits everywhere. I live outside of Los Angeles. We’re coming up next season.
My first job was as a sales assistant on a Saturday, at Pikes Pets - the pet shop on the corner of the market, where live animals used to roast in a massive plate glass window in the summer. I bet a big bag of rabbit food costs more than a quid now. My life has definitely benefited from knowing there are seven different types of bird grit, but I’ve been put off from having pets for the whole of my life after sifting out the left over limbs and organs from out of the hamster cage on a morning.
As a wakefield native, its surreal seeing the underappreciated (not really) locations i frequent often being represented in a huge piece of media such as a Robbie Knox video. All we had before was a brief mention in the M. Night Shyamalan movie Signs.
I've been here about 23 years. It's not the worst place to live. I love all the nature around. But could be more job opportunities and less arseholes 😂.
if you do stoke-on-trent, you have to do Trentham Bakehouse, you can walk along the canal to get there, quite a nice walk - used to be me and my uni friends sunday treat
Did you see the mice carved into the cathedral pews? For next time Wakefield has lots of great fish and chip shops - it's tradition to sit outside the cathedral and feed the pigeons scraps..
If you’d have gone down manygates lane you should have sung the song The Grand old Duke of York and would have seen his plinth where the Duke of York died down from the castle, in my old school Manygates middle school.
It's a shame you couldn't have visited 50 years ago when Wakefield was a bustling market town and people came by the tripload to visit. Sorry though, wrong Richard! It was Richard the 3rd Duke of York who died at Wakefield and not King Richard III, he died at the battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. King Richard III was also the Duke of Gloucester. The Battle of Wakefield took place in December 1460 (I almost remember it well,).
If im a medieval castle, I can't speak because I'm a castle might be the greatest quote on this channel only rivalled by Jaackmaate had sex with a horse.
I’m from Leeds and my impression was 30 years ago I went on a night out and had to pay £2 for a pint, which was a shock, before I gave £2 to a barmaid and she wanted a 20p as well. Never went back 😀😀😀😀
This is a series we have to see 🔥 get Barnstaple on the list - you’ve never heard of it but the history there would shock you, used to have it’s own language, used to be a bigger port than Liverpool. Now nothing 😆 Jo Brand described it as the only place in Devon that’s not posh (I raise you Torquay and Brixham but there we are)
The main question i have from this after having travelled through Wakefield Westgate station and now seeing the cathedral is in Northgate is whats in eastgate and southgate ?
Cathedral is not in Northgate it’s in the city centre, Northgate has Queen Elizabeth grammar school and goes our towards Outwood and the M1 to Leeds. Southgate goes out to Doncaster and Barnsley Road Road.
I'm from Wakefield, lived in Yorkshire all my life. That "Sculpture" is the most pointless thing about Wakefield.
