As a fellow Brit I can tell these guys really get along.. simply by the amount of merciless pisstaking between them. If an Englishman likes you he will roast the shit out of you.
Hilarious! And here THIS Yank was about to write in, "Sometimes I wonder if you three really do detest one another!😳🤔" So I guess it's a cultural thing. Rest assured: I certainly adore you, and the show!
One of the reasons, TRC Podcast is currently one of my favourites, is the banter! Especially living alone, listening to a podcast that feels like mates having good banter after an annoying work day is very appreciated! Cheers from Switzerland
Yes, because the distance is actually measured. The reason they get a faster GPS-time is because it's inaccurate, not because they are "weaving around people"
Relatively new runner and park runner. Just did my 25th run this Saturday at my local Newy Parkrun. Also made a PB that broke the 30min mark for my first time , so pretty happy with my run. Love the channel and the podcast and enjoy the banter with Sarah, so don’t stay serious (as if you would). Thanks for all the info and the fun for someone (at 53yo) took up running.
Love your work, guys. Two comments for Sarah from the antipodes. (1) You have such a classically delightful british accent. (2) I'm over 50 (I laugh when you & Rick mock Andy for being old), and I still watch my kids play sport and think "Oh I miss that". Kids are awesome but exhausting; dive into parenthood while you're still fit & young. Also, the younger you are when you have kids, the more likely you'll still be able to run faster than them when they're teenagers!
Rick's logic regarding 5min past the hour also would mean you're more likely to get a clear photo taken. And yes...I want to see him do it and see if he's right.
I go sock shoe, sock shoe. It's more efficient lol. I already have my foot up, so why wouldn't I then put my shoe on haha? Plus. I'm very aware of how my socks feel, so like if it's wrong, I need to fix it. So I put the sock on, then the shoe, then assess if I have the bad vibes. Adjust as needed. Move on to other foot lol.
just set a 5k pb (seems to be every other week i break a new pb but thats the perks of being a new-ish runner) while funny enough listening to the harry potter book as you make a sirius black joke lol can kick my feet up and relax watching this now before i head to a beer garden with the lads to enjoy this beautiful scottish weather!
I’m with Rick, I’m doing my first marathon in a week and my goal is 5 past 4 hours! Mostly because I don’t think I am quite fit enough to reach sub 4 so I am picking a more realistic goal based on my training paces
This year (2024) I have so far used 1690 Euro on racing fee's. Its gone completely bonkers since Covid, almost doubled, and I get the feeling that especially bigger city-races has gone totally gready. More entries, higher entry-fee, same service and mostly done by volunteers. In 2025 I'm cutting all the expencive races, going for some cheaper local ones and then saving for hollydays with my familly.
I resolutely don't understand the sock-shoe-sock-shoe debate. I get ready for my run, I assume like any semi-normal person, in my bedroom, where my clothes are. I then, descend the stairs to nigh the door, where my shoes are, and don them. I am certain there is no parallel universe whereby my alternate thinks it's most sensible to delay the donning of the socks such that it must be done in that order because there is no reasoning that may support it. I can only assume that people that do, must have a particularly special clothing/shoe storage situation, because otherwise, I can only speak to a conscious decision that is questionable at best.
Maybe they are normally barefoot and bring their socks downstairs to don them while donning their shoes in order to avoid sitting in two separate places.
Jeremy Miller claims to do sock shoe sock shoe, because he doesn’t want his sock to touch the ground and gather pet hair from his 2 dogs. But he’s also the type of dude to chug raw milk during a race. lol I was just as confused when I first heard that sock shoe sock was even an option. 😅
I for one am delighted to see Sarah back!! Bring on the nonsense and hilarity 😂😂 Oh and yes, chip time every time. Strava time is just there to taunt us 😖😖
Personally, I prefer having Sarah. I like the less serious, more fun vibes 😜 (But seriously, it’s good to mix it up sometimes, and Jess was really good)
I think Rick is on to something. 🤣. My first and only marathon at age 60 goal was to finish 5 minutes before cut off. Maybe I will “run” another someday. Maybe I won’t. I will keep this “goal” in mind.
I'm a runner, of course I watch the running channel podcast. Also, I ran Newport marathon in April where the organisers measured the course incorrectly. It was 300 yards too long. Does this mean that I can adjust my time to take this into account?
Sock, sock, shoe, shoe is obvious. For those who have twins, the real question is how do you do it? A) Sock, sock, sock, sock, shoe, shoe, shoe, shoe Or B) sock, sock, shoe, shoe, sock, sock, shoe, shoe.
@@foocw 😂 I have twin girls. IMO the correct answer is sock, sock, shoe, shoe then repeat. Otherwise the first might get the socks off before you get to the second one. 😂
I feel that when you're asked about discrepancies between chip time and Strava/watch time, the focus of the answer should be more on the fact that GPS is inaccurate. Even on straight roads, in ideal conditions, it can be out by a few percent. Turns and tall buildings make this even worse. If you ever zoom in on sections of your run, it can be so far off. So whilst weaving may add some distance, the majority is going to be the GPS. The conclusion is the same, that chip time should be used for records, but blaming weaving makes you think that you've actually ran the longer distance, when in reality, you probably haven't.
I enjoy the banter, especially when you're trying to be serious. I feel really old now I took my GCSEs in 1088, which was the year they took over from O Levels. I guess that makes me to OG lol
I took mine in 1987 - they were neither O levels or CSE, they were 16+ which gave me both an O level grade and a CSE grade. Then they scrapped the 16+ and started GCSEs 👵🏻👵🏻👵🏻
I came to the running channel BECAUSE of Sarah. Everyone else is great too, but she's how I found these videos and why I keep coming back. I came for the Sarah and all I got was this useless science.
Sock/shoe confession: while I’m usually sock, sock, shoe, shoe, I do occasionally mix it up to sock, shoe, sock, shoe as a means of laziness when my legs are too tired to bend twice for attire.
The other day in my friend's car on the way to park run, I started doing sock shoe and had to stop myself. This has never happened to me before, I am concerned I'm losing it.
Newcastle Gateshead M athon would be greatb for Rick. I has the added bonus of a kililer hill for each of three or four laps. And it s a great city to visit
Sock shoe sock shoe is good for if you are taking your trail running shoes off and going for a swim, and then need to put them back on afterwards. You wash one foot, sock shoe it, then wash the other and sock shoe it.
I think Rick's on to something. My first marathon, I wanted sub 4:30, got 4:33. Second one, wanted sub 4, got 4:02. If I had been aiming for 5 over I would have had a nice 2-3 minute buffer there 😄
Just did a half marathon and decided to aim for 2:00 - 2:05 for that race. It was tough to be that close to being under 2:00 but to know I probably wasn't going to make it for that race. I do think the reasoning to go 5 past the hour is reasonable.
Sarah is an essential part of the podcast! However - I have to say they're better when there is better and more focused running content, rather than half an hour of banter. Honest feedback! Seek the balance!!
Re Rick's 5 past the hour idea, in reality everyone has a different start and chip time so even if the finish clock is showing an hour coming up, it's not relevant to lots of people. Your 5 hour 5 minute cut off might be eg 05:24:00, reflecting your start.
Only when watching this channel do I get ads for the Kiprun kd900x ld. During this podcast, I got an ad for a skin care product...Rick, is this your doing? Lol
I think after your first marathon you just aim for a PB or an achievable goal based on your training? Going for 5 past the hour could be like a 50 minute PB 😂
I hope you don't think this is too weird but I actually had a dream about you guys the other night... I've forgotten most of the details but I do remember Andy was living in a very fancy multimillion pound house with a lovely open plan kitchen, Sarah was living in a pretty nice house with a very large garden (impressive in London, ik) and Rick was pestering Andy in his kitchen because he didn't want to be in his very grotty flat that definitely didn't have space for a hot tub 🤣
I am running my first marathon in October but it isn't one of the world majors or even in a big city and I am worried about the mental side of running a quieter marathon. What advice do you have for someone running their first marathon without the support of the crowd to carry them along. TIA for any help 😊😊
As a fellow Brit I can tell these guys really get along.. simply by the amount of merciless pisstaking between them. If an Englishman likes you he will roast the shit out of you.
Hahaha so so true
Hilarious! And here THIS Yank was about to write in, "Sometimes I wonder if you three really do detest one another!😳🤔" So I guess it's a cultural thing. Rest assured: I certainly adore you, and the show!
This is why I found that comment about Sarah being unprofessional and liked it 😀
I think that the youtube comment read out by Sarah was from one of Ricks alt accounts 😁🤣🤣😄
Yank here. 1) if I wanted serious I'd listen to a murder pod cast 2) I know they are mates because this is how our friend group talks!
Sarah is always #1 in our hearts.
And in ours 💙
Jokes it’s Jess
Only 68 upvotes for Sarah come on people! 😅😂❤
Sarah for the win. She's definitely, by far, my favourite TCR presenter
I love what Sarah brings to this podcast. Hands down she makes the podcast!
Came all the way here from Spotify to tell Sarah how much I appreciate her. Sincerely, a professional, serious, adult person
I’m a runner, of course I get annoyed when people walk 5 abreast across paths
One of the reasons, TRC Podcast is currently one of my favourites, is the banter!
Especially living alone, listening to a podcast that feels like mates having good banter after an annoying work day is very appreciated!
Cheers from Switzerland
1:10 - OUUUCH why would someone say that 😂Sarah's a fantastic host
I’m with Andy. The chip time is law!
Yes, because the distance is actually measured. The reason they get a faster GPS-time is because it's inaccurate, not because they are "weaving around people"
@@IK99999 They don't have to be weaving. They just aren't running the tangents, which is how the course is measured.
I just missed a sub 50 min 10k due to the garmin vs chip time debate
@@snigeb Yeah, if it's an official race. Then chip time is law 😁
looking forward to rick's 2:05 marathon, plenty of space when he runs at that pace 🙏
I’m a runner. Of course I have a box of gels on the kitchen counter and wear shorts year around.
YES TO THIS!
Relatively new runner and park runner. Just did my 25th run this Saturday at my local Newy Parkrun. Also made a PB that broke the 30min mark for my first time , so pretty happy with my run.

Already looking for parkruns when I travel
@@JustinCooksey Good idea. Get in some long much much slower runs. Will help with parkrun.
See, now if you were Rick you'd have been happy with a sub-35 minute Parkrun 😂
This episode didn't go anywhere.
Pure banter.
Top shelf.
💯
Lovedddd it 😂
TRC podcast is a highlight of my week, it makes me chuckle more than some comedy podcasts. On top of that it keeps me inspired to carrybon running
So glad Sarah is back. It's so much more fun to listen to the podcast.

The screen brims with talent, and Sarah, there’s no need for jealousy-you’ll always have a unique place here 🎉
I disagree I'm not crazy about the characters. The content isn't anything special either.
My heroes !! Always a pleasure.
Thanks!!
I absolutely love the banter and personality in this podcast. Please make them longer, to give more room for the goofiness!
I love Sarah on the podcast!
Wouldn't change her for the world! ❤

You guys had me laughing so hard during Rick's "five past an hour" discussion. Let's make it happen!
Just want to say I absolutely love you on the episodes Sarah! I love the lightweight banta mixed with serious talk. Keep it up 🎉❤
So glad you enjoyed it!
Rick should find a run/walking marathon for his next marathon. So he can ease into getting back into it.
Good plan!
Sarah carries the podcast. Serious unserious, the banter between the three of you is great. Loved all the surprise guests though. ❤
it's 27 °C EVERYDAY in the mornings here in Trinidad 🇹🇹. 20 ° sounds heavenly.

Really glad you enjoyed it!
That is a brilliant idea Rick had I love it 😃
Great show all !
Send Rick to Manchester Marathon next year, I'll happily keep him company aiming for 5:05 ⌚🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃

Haha 5 past 5: maybe I’ll use that as my goal for Ottawa next weekend 😂😂😂
I'm a runner, of course I... get up earlier on Saturday for parkrun than I get up on weekdays for work
16 degrees lol. I’m in Houston Texas USA it’s 24 degrees minimum. Easily 32 by noon.
I'm going to say Rick should do the Ljubljana marathon, just so that I can see you guys in person :)
