Would love a shirt of something Tom said when he ran his marathon. "Running is the bridge between who I am and who I want to be" I tell myself that every time its challenging to get out the door
Tom actually got this quote from the back of a shirt of a runner in front of him during the marathon. So this shirt technically already exists! Maybe TRC will make their own though.
How to run a fast 5k? I feel like the answer to this is ridiculously simple. "Start fast. Hold on for the first 4k. Push through the last km. Collapse, gasping for air."
Hello everyone, I came here for the useless banter and don't care about the science (that I could get from any of the other 100,000 running channels on youtube or elsewhere.😉) I'm Thomas S. (62 years old) from Germany. I've been running regularly since March 2023 and have finished three marathons since then (4:31:XX, 4:19:XX, 4:26:XX). Unfortunately not sub4 yet - but I'm still young! I've been following your TH-cam channel for a long time now and find it very entertaining.👍 Unfortunately I don't always understand everything (e.g. what "spa" is supposed to be) but with the subtitles switched on it works quite well. But you could tell Jess from me that she should speak a little slower - after all, Germans listen too. She runs pretty fast, congratulations for that. But you always get the impression that she's about to hyperventilate.😅 So, and now to my question: You always talk about sock sock shoe shoe or sock shoe sock shoe. Shouldn't the more relevant question be: shoe shoe laces laces or shoe laces shoe laces? It often happens to me that I put on a shoe and lace it up and think everything is OK. But after a while the feeling of pressure on my foot changes. And when I put on the second shoe and lace it up, I notice that they are different tightnesses. Best wishes from Coburg, Germany and keep up the good work! Thomas
I've been wanting TRC gear for a year now (alas, I am in the US and haven't been able to make any of the pop ups) but I would love to buy this shirt as I do very much enjoy useless banter.
Yes us US folk would love some merch even the old red shirt with the logo. Anything to rep the brand and see other runners rep it so you know who is actually cool
Picking up on your shout outs for couples that are brought together by running....running has caused a lot of anxiety in our house. I love it, my wife hates it and always just tolerated me doing it in my own time. That was until I had a brain haemorrhage whilst running Parkrun. it took me 2 years to make a full recovery (am currently training for Dublin Marathon) but even still the my wife has moments of "maybe you should stop running because it worries me so much". Apparently running didn't cause the bleed, but the mental scars run deep!
Good timing, after a sub 20 5k last year, I've struggled to make it this year, despite last year being a comeback from an achilles rupture surgery, and this year running more often 🏃🏻 not sure why.. but today's parkrun was 20.15 so not far off. Keep up the good work guys, really enjoy the podcast! PS I want one of those t-shirts
Honestly, that was a great comment but not a one-star worthy. The banter makes the conversation move along and is fun to listen to. I want information, not a lecture
Absolutely love the tops! I would definitely want one! Also great episode on the 5k! I’m just about to finish Couch to 5k. So this episode was so relevant to me! Let us know when the tops are available!
Another great episode, and thanks to Andy for bringing along T-shirts, as Rick's horizontal red stripes against vertical black stripes in the background was rather challenging to look at!
Thank you for sharing the news about Jess Judd, I hadn’t seen this before. As someone who is also going through the diagnostic stages for focal epilepsy, I want to applaud her for being brave enough to share her diagnosis as there is still (in my experience) a lot of stigma and misunderstanding surrounding epilepsy. Best wishes to Jess, I hope she will be in a position one day to be able to come back to TRC and talk about her experiences.
I think that in a few decades, Andy will be grinding out interval sessions to work towards world records for runners in his age group, still feeling competitive burn. Sarah will be doing the travel race thing, going to cool places to run there, enjoying meeting people and exploring the world through running. Rick will just be putting on his shoes every day to go for a spin around the neighbourhood, running out of a pure love of running.
How exciting, I already entered the Malaga Marathon. I thought it would make a good first marathon. If i have to throw in the towel, I'll be in my favourite holiday destination. Now I might get to meet you all too. Happy days! 😊
I liked Andy's comment of the pace/time or distance that seemed crazy a few weeks ago seems not to bad as you progress in getting stronger and faster. I am on week 6/8 on the New to Running programme on the Runna app. I can see a difference.
It is definitely warm down. I could “cool down” after a session by simply standing in the wind and rain in my running kit. But that would obviously be bonkers. The term “warm down” neatly captures the importance of performing largely the same process as that used in your “warm up” for the inverse effect.
I would absolutely buy this shirt! Plus, if you could, make a "panazz" shirt or a "hovercraft" shirt...when I'm struggling to get out the door, the running home for Christmas podcast is my favourite.
What an absolutely genius way of humouring that review. You should definitely sell those tops. You could donate some of the proceeds to a charity of your choice so some additional good came out of it.
I've been listening to the podcasts on my runs, and i'm almost out of episodes. Cant you just release more of them, ore make them longer I am really dreading the day that i've listened to all of them Ps; i would totally buy the merch Came here to the youtube version after my long run, and listening to the podcast
Did my first 5K in years today (park run). Decided to bring one of my 9YO girls. She races 1500 but has never run 5K in her life …. 4 K is her long run. We talked about it and decided we will run 30 min and that she would just stay on my back for the first half. The gun went off and she threw the plan out the window. Splits were 5:13, 4:45, 5:11, 5:48, & 5:31 for a finish of 26:28, which was under the age group record (that I checked before they got rid of them). She suffered on the back half … thinks she will try the negative split next time lol.
When is the run improve repeat merch coming? I'd love a tech vest and a sweater. Hoping I haven't missed it even though I've been periodically checking the store.
I always knew that sock shoe sock shoe thing is pretty unanimous. What I’m curious is shoe and laces, or do people put both shoes first then laces both? I think that’s more divided.
I have a question... Does a PB on a treadmill count as a genuine PB? I do increasing tempo runs on a treadmill once a week. A slight increment of speed per 400 or 800m. So in theory each week Im getting a PB because I'm always increasing that amount or frequency. My road PB is about 25 minutes (we dont have a Parkrun where I live to record anything officially), but I can blitz that time on a treadmill, just by doing my speed bumps in 400m lots, to about 22 or 23 minutes depending on my starting pace, and if I decide to use shorter distances between jumps at the end so im almost sprinting the last minute.
I know for a fact that running at high altitude is difficult but my all out 5k is only 20:33. I am 22M and been running since 4 years and very fit. I saw a lot of people who have very much better 5k time. I live at around 3500m above sea level. Please tell me if thats a normal time for this height or it might demotivate me.
New challenge Pick an area (you guys seem to always be in London but it could be elsewhere) Have boundaries and a paper map. Challenge to run all the streets - no overlapping or back tracking in the shortest time Points deducted for % of area not covered. It might work better with a time limit based on your 10 k pb. This challenge will involve running and intelligence. No gps guidance.
Aiming for sub 20 min for 5K this summer. Hm, I think I read the world record for 50 year olds is like 2,40 min for 1000m. If true, perhaps something to aim for...
Thinking about running later in this hot weather while i was in the local big Tesco and I had an idea while walking up and down the wonderfully wide and air-conditioned aisles - I could come back in my running gear and enjoy an easy pace 5k in the cool. Is this behaviour permissible in a supermarket and has anyone tried it?
given Rick's been going on about how hes been cycling and cross training, I would get him do an olimpic distance triathlon. There's a 10k at the end of that. :)
Dating and running question: Is a form of hypergamy practiced among straight female runners? Do they only tend to date male runners who are faster than them? Inquiring minds want to know!
hi guys, wheres the link to the malaga marathon? i want to do this as my 40th marathon with u guys and my last attempt at sub 3.30
Here you go!:
sportstoursinternational.co.uk/event/malaga-marathon/
Would love a shirt of something Tom said when he ran his marathon.
"Running is the bridge between who I am and who I want to be"

We’ll look into it!
I'd love a shirt like this too! 😊

Me too. It’s a lovely phrase
How to run a fast 5k? I feel like the answer to this is ridiculously simple. "Start fast. Hold on for the first 4k. Push through the last km. Collapse, gasping for air."
😂😂😂 is that’s your tactic?
Simple really 😂
I say start fast, internally panic between 1-2 kms into whether you can maintain pace, hold on and collapse at end
Add one final step: "if you fall apart, try again next weekend"'
Yep, for a long time my tactic was pick a pace, hold on for dear life.

Thomas
would love an episode talking about running in the heat now the sun is finally coming out!! ☀️☀️
Saturday long run day with parkrun and TRC podcast is the best day.
So glad to hear that! How was parkrun?
@@runningchannel Not flat, and definitely not sub 16, but still fun.
I've been wanting TRC gear for a year now (alas, I am in the US and haven't been able to make any of the pop ups) but I would love to buy this shirt as I do very much enjoy useless banter.
We’re working on the merch we promise!!
@@runningchannel no worries at all, happy to wait for greatness
Yes us US folk would love some merch even the old red shirt with the logo. Anything to rep the brand and see other runners rep it so you know who is actually cool

I would totally buy this shirt! I look forward to this podcast every Saturday morning. Keep it up (banter included)! ❤

That’s a brilliant time after such a horrible injury! You can definitely go sub 20!
I'm similar. When I train regularly I get 19:45 ish. But when I eat crap and stop training it goes to 21:30 ish.
I agree, I hadn't appreciated what a professional and sensitive interviewer Rik actually is (Sarah has natural empathy and we all love her)
Another great podcast. Congratulations to Andy for an amazing 5km time. The t-shirt looks ace. Your (good natured) banter is very entertaining
Love the T-shirt’s. I personally like the banter between the 3 of you before getting into the content of the podcast.
Honestly, that was a great comment but not a one-star worthy. The banter makes the conversation move along and is fun to listen to. I want information, not a lecture
👏👏👏
Hear hear
I’d love a T-shirt so yes please to a special edition.
I LOVE to see a new video notification by the Running Channel on run day! Love you guys!
Omg! Please release these tops! I need one so bad!!
They are the best! I love how you guys absolutely swapped a negative into a positive 🔥🔥💪🏻💪🏻
Absolutely love the tops! I would definitely want one! Also great episode on the 5k! I’m just about to finish Couch to 5k. So this episode was so relevant to me! Let us know when the tops are available!
“This is the running channel podcast with me where’s wally” 🤣
😂😂😂
Haha logged quickly whilst watching on the TV to drop a where's wally comment but you beat me.
Another great episode, and thanks to Andy for bringing along T-shirts, as Rick's horizontal red stripes against vertical black stripes in the background was rather challenging to look at!
Your podcast can make me laugh out loud on the commute to work on a Monday. Impressive!!! Keep up the good work and see you in Malaga.
Glad you enjoy it so much Kevin!

Belter of a podcast. Several laugh out loud moments. Definitely getting my vote at the upcoming awards.
It’s Always sock shoe sock shoe and the socks cannot touch the floor! 🏃🏽🏁 Love the Podcast

So glad you enjoy it Josh!

YES for making the long sleeve shirt available for purchase!
Hi all the way from South Africa love your channel. What a comeback with the shirts.
I love that shirt 😂 it’s kinda fun cos you only understand it if you listen / watch the podcast
Id buy one!!
😂 It's awesome that y'all finished the episode in them!
Yesss Merch!! 😆 Love you guys and your banter
Yes, I want that top!
The Malton 10k is on my list for this year.... looks wild.
Fantastic episode, laughed so much. Well done Andy on the 5k.
I 100% would buy it
Please please make and sell those tee shirts!
Yes!!!
I liked Andy's comment of the pace/time or distance that seemed crazy a few weeks ago seems not to bad as you progress in getting stronger and faster. I am on week 6/8 on the New to Running programme on the Runna app. I can see a difference.

Loving this before I run a half marathon this morning. I have 3 goals.
1. An A goal
B is a secondary goal
And C…..😂
TRC and potential merch drop 👀 after a morning long run-today is a good day 😄
Hahah we’re glad!
I would absolutely buy this shirt! Plus, if you could, make a "panazz" shirt or a "hovercraft" shirt...when I'm struggling to get out the door, the running home for Christmas podcast is my favourite.

Hysterical .. Rick and his spas !! Yes please I’d love the shirt ..how do I order one ?????
5:15 I would buy this shirt:
The faster you run, the sooner you’re done.
Slow and Steady wins the race.
Yes please, please make a one star review shirt, I will ten thousand percent buy one
I've been listening to the podcasts on my runs, and i'm almost out of episodes. Cant you just release more of them, ore make them longer
I am really dreading the day that i've listened to all of them
Ps; i would totally buy the merch
Came here to the youtube version after my long run, and listening to the podcast
I'm glad TRC finally tackled the elephant in the room and started talking about 5Ks 😅
I can’t wait to buy one of these long sleeves!
Last Man on Earth ended up stuck in my head for hours.
Hahaha you’re welcome

Looking forward to Rick’s training diary!
I would buy that, 100%. I am a little bit wary of the white, though, as I am a spiller 🤣
When is the run improve repeat merch coming? I'd love a tech vest and a sweater. Hoping I haven't missed it even though I've been periodically checking the store.
Would love to get my hands on one of those shirts! On Rick it isn't clashing with the background like the where is Wally shirt was 😂😂😂
Great podcast as always, but those mic stands look a bit jagged and weird compared to your old setup 🤔 I dunno 🙂 makes it feel a bit closed off
I always knew that sock shoe sock shoe thing is pretty unanimous.
What I’m curious is shoe and laces, or do people put both shoes first then laces both? I think that’s more divided.
This episode was definitely 400 banter watts !
I'm a chiropodist Sarah, I KNOW what that smells like! 😂

It would be cool if yall used the Garmin coach or Garmin daily suggestions to see how much Rick improves for the 10k
Don't change a thing, I'm here for it all, including the 'useless' banter!!!!!!
The shirts are too funny! You should sell them for sure!
Sarah, I was in fact eating 🤭
Yest make the shirt, I will buy one for sure!
Aiming for sub 20 min for 5K this summer. Hm, I think I read the world record for 50 year olds is like 2,40 min for 1000m. If true, perhaps something to aim for...
Thanks
Happy late birthday, Andy!
I’d love to run the Malaga Marathon but I’m in the US. So it’s a bit far. But please film it!
I’m not a merch person, but if you sell this as a running top, I will buy it.
I feel that needs adding to the "i am a runner.... of course I have some black toe nails, no toe nails."
Please make shirt available as TRC merch.
I love the short 😂
😂
Please, please sell that t-shirt! I went looking for one on your site before I realized that you didn't sell it yet. :)
Damn I have to leave a 1* review to try and get my quote on a t-shirt 😂
Thinking about running later in this hot weather while i was in the local big Tesco and I had an idea while walking up and down the wonderfully wide and air-conditioned aisles - I could come back in my running gear and enjoy an easy pace 5k in the cool. Is this behaviour permissible in a supermarket and has anyone tried it?
YES to the shirts 😂👍
Anyone else unable to find the Running Channel to vote for?
Same as that
I cant find the running channel on the voting panel????
given Rick's been going on about how hes been cycling and cross training, I would get him do an olimpic distance triathlon. There's a 10k at the end of that. :)
Can we have 'if anyone understands what that smells like... welcome to the toenail club' on a t-shirt?
Yes !!!.....to the shirt 😂
Hahah we’ll see what we can do
77, no I mean 76 episode anniversary!!!
Thank you haha
WHERE IS THE PETITION TO MAKE THEM SHIRTS TO OFFICIAL MERCH?!?!
Rick only needs a bobble hat and glasses and he could pass as Where's Wally"!
😂😂😂
Pleeeeese make a "I came here for the science and all I got was this useless banter" Tshirt...Will 100% buy 😂
I think that commenter should get a free T-shirt! That should turn his/her mind around! 😂😂😂
At 23:39 he gets into training specifics for the 5K.
So, should we expect an "1, B, C" t-shirt soon?
I want one!
😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂 I love the T shirts 🎉🎉🎉 Hilarious!!!
I would definitely buy a slogan t-shirt/ long sleeve. Could they be technical to run in ? 😂😂👌👌🤯🤯
hahah we'll see what we can do
I would 1000% (yes, I know it is not scientifically correct, but thats not what we are here for 😉) buy that shirt 😂
Dating and running question: Is a form of hypergamy practiced among straight female runners? Do they only tend to date male runners who are faster than them? Inquiring minds want to know!
I need one of those long sleeve Ts 😍😂
Ringo and david tennenet?
I moved from miles to km this year and for 6 months I still have no clue how fast I'm running. xD
Thanks running channel, yr useless banter is one of many highlights of my week
Glad to hear it! We will keep it useless 😂
thought this would be the first cast without mentioning the olympics,,,, and there it is, got smuggled in on the strava comments,
😂😂😂
Love the tees although I can't ever risk white 👎
Oh no, too messy?
