    I probably shouldn’t say anything yet, because I just got this astounding pedal today, and don’t yet have my thoughts together. But, I want to thank these folks for making this lovely and powerful piece of equipment. If you can, I urge you to get one. It contains within it some of the reasons to love playing guitar. It imparts inspiration and joy.

    I went out today to by either a JHS Kodiak or Walrus Audio Monument. Both sounded great but I left with a Flint. Amazing sounding pedal and, despite what look like limited options, seemingly infinite sounds. My first Strymon pedal. I have a feeling it wont be my last.

    Oh Strymon. El Capistan is the greatest pedal I've ever owned and I've been trying to resist the Flint for so long. But now I'm going to have to sell my existing tremolo and cough up the cash because this thing sounds so damn good. You geniuses you

    • @brianrollins7275

      I hear ya, I’m selling my MXR M300 Reverb and MXR M305 Tremolo to get the Flint. I have the DIG and will own the El Capistan eventually.
      I like the MXR pedals but they both have high mA when it comes to power. The M300 has a current draw of 240mA and the M305 has a current draw of 190mA. The Flint’s required current is 250mA. I do have a truetone cs7 power supply so it wasn’t an issue but just one power source as opposed to two is a plus. One less patch cable and I still get great reverb and tremolo tones so it’s a win for me. I got the MXR pedals because I liked the idea of 6 different types of reverb and tremolo but I only ever used plate and spring and epic on the reverb and one or two types on the tremolo. I think I’ll get along better with just the flint. I’ve become a minimalist these days so I’m trying to get down to using as few pedals as possible.
      Can’t wait to get the Flint.
      Take care folks

    I just got my 2nd Flint this week (cool black knob special edition), sold the 1st one when I got a Fractal FX-8, big mistake, FX-8 is now gone and I had to have my Strymon pedals again. This just might be Strymon's best pedal, god I love this puppy. The Harmonic Trem is to die for and the 80's Hall exquisite, having this after my stereo Volante is a touch of heaven. Strymon is just top shelf all the way. Got my eye on that Riverside Drive gessshhh the tones coming out of that, analog input with magical DSP I cannot believe they got DSP to sound that good. Strymon Rules!!

    OK...So I purchased this pedal....and it does sound as good as you hear that it does. I had 30 days to return it...and due to covid my business was slow so I took advantage of the generous return policy knowing I could repurchase it later....And they told me that I'm the first ever to return this pedal in the database of that music chain. We all had a laugh as I explained (in liars terms) why I wanted to return it.... I will get by for a bit and then repurchase this gem.

    You have to have one cable for each ”part” of the pedal?
    How the hell am I suposed to connect it to the next pedal?
    Does a Y-cable exist?

    • @strymon
      @strymon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Simon, that is incorrect. The two sides of the pedal will come out of the LEFT OUT when you are going mono in and out. You do not need a splitter cable to use each side of the pedal. Even when using stereo outputs, both effects are sent out of both outputs, it is not one effect per out.

    • @strymon
      @strymon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By default, Flint is set to True Bypass, however, you can set the Flint to buffered bypass mode so that you get a buffered signal when the effect is bypassed.

    Does anyone here know how to change the bypass from true bypass to buffered ?

    • @strymon
      @strymon  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With the pedal disconnected from power, press and hold the Reverb Bypass footswitch, and then connect the pedal to power :)
      This toggles between the bypass mode each time you do it. Buffered bypass gives you trails when bypassing the reverb.

    I'm thinks of linking this pedal through my sound card so I can use it as a send and return effect in protools. Can you see any reason why this would not work?
    Thanks

      +John Boswell, you can certainly use our pedals as outboard effects with dedicated audio interfaces. Our pedals have an input impedance of 1 Meg Ohm and output impedance of 100 Ohm, so just make sure that your audio interface can work with these connections.

      You can run mono in and stereo out, yes :) Note that both outputs are always processed though, so if you are trying to run a wet/dry rig for example you'd want to split the signal before Iridium with some other type of device.

    Is there any volume drop when you engage the tremolo?

    • @strymon
      @strymon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is no perceived volume drop. Also, there is a separate boost/cut feature available when you engage the Tremolo (or Reverb).

  • @kivancduz1982
    @kivancduz1982 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    hi strymon, I have a question. Shall I face volume drop problem with the tremolo, which is often in other tremolo pedals?

    • @strymon
      @strymon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The perception of a volume drop is usually due to the nature of how the tremolo affects the amplitude of your signal. On the Flint, there is an optional boost of up to +3dB that you can apply if you feel you are losing signal.

    • @kivancduz1982
      @kivancduz1982 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      strymon thanks for the answer, can I assign that +3db boost just for tremolo or it is both for tremolo and reverb?

    • @strymon
      @strymon  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, both the TREMOLO and REVERB sides have their own independent BOOST level settings. So you can set it for the Tremolo, but keep the reverb effect at unity gain when that is engaged.

  • @bootlegapples
    @bootlegapples 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sounds awesome,why only -3db cut though?

    • @strymon
      @strymon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our pedals are designed to operate at unity gain; the +/- 3dB boost/cut is there in order to allow fine tuning for your output signal level to match your input level. :)

    • @bootlegapples
      @bootlegapples 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I brought this up before on other vids and am wary of coming across cranky...but with all due respect 3 db of cut is not enough to level the volume when going %100 wet with longer trails.(yes,people discover new ways to use gear).They stack up much more the 3 db and I know this because it's one of the reasons I bought a Big Sky in the first place-I don't use my guitar's volume knob for swells or even the "swell" setting for swells.Going %100 wet is much better IMO because it's seamless sounding.You can play what I call *chord clouds* (basically seamless swells)and add all kinds of artifacts-pick noise,tapping,dissonant notes etc.."Swell" mode can't do that because it clips the attack.
      More-you could get swells on ANY reverb "type" /any verb pedal in your line up and you could have boasted a "swell" effect for each if you guys offered more than 3db cut.As they are they will do it but the volume will far exceed the guitar's dry level.That's such a bummer because it's an awesome sound and it's so close yet the Strymon's volume runs away :/ You should try it and experience for yourself.You set the verb %100 wet,create chord clouds (set to long decay) and as it lingers you can disengage the effect and play over it.You can also overlap the clouds of sound,its a great/worthwhile sonic effect.
      BTW I chose Strymon because there are sounds and features that some of my music depends on now,otherwise I'd opt for an Eventide or Empress.I want so bad to ditch my lesser sounding line6 (even line6 let's you do chord clouds with it's 20db range of cut).
      Anyhow,this is my last nag.Otherwise I really enjoy my Strymon.

    What is funny is today, we spend thousands on pedals that use high DSP power to try to recreate old tones that used very little tech or DSP. I like me a good pedal but come on now. I think SRV used an old Tubescreamer pedal in front of a Fender Tube amp. Most of the tone was in his fingers- that is something no amount of money can buy. I bought a nearly $2,000 Fractal FM9 Turbo and pedals and several expensive guitars and joke that now I just have to learn how to play. Not really joking. ☺

    If you're thinking between the flint and bluesky, 110% GO WITH THE FLINT. I bought the bluesky and iridium. Buying the Iridium was a risk, that paid off. Buying the bluesky was a calculated safety measure, but I regret buying it. Not a bad pedal. But I think you should either buy the bigsky or the flint. Even if you want it only for the reverb. I regret not taking the risk buying the flint instead of the bluesky. -_-
