Why are some Buddhas fat and others skinny? Why do some have red bodies and others blue? While this may sound like a Dr. Seuss book, the world of Buddhist imagery is a complex dimension of profound meaning and cultural relevance, created over thousands of years of growth and travel. This visual presentation focuses on the history of the image of the Buddha, from some of the earliest Indian traditions, in which there was no image of the Buddha, to the diverse multiverse of buddha and bodhisattva imagery found in the Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions of Nepal, Tibet, Indonesia, China, and Japan. Visit the Buddha Lands through this kaleidoscopic display of Buddhist statuary, paintings, and icons from throughout time and space.
    One-hour slideshow followed by half-hour Q&A

    Really appreciate this.
I’m noticing that the earlier Buddha’s seem very natural and human and when we get to southeast Asia in the timeline the Buddha’s faces/heads seem dramatically more stylized, artistic, exaggerated features etc...
