I don't live there but I was hoping to hear something like, rules about leaving dogs outside on a chain for most of their life being banned. Or increasing penalties for animal abuse and neglect. If you can't treat an animal well....don't have one.

    • @williamryan9195

Using a chain link tie out is a somewhat misundestood practice. Some breeds require such measures to protect their dogs from being stolen and to prevent the dog from breaking loose while the owner is not present. Lot's of propaganda especially surrounding chain tieouts of American pitbull terriers which are strong enough to break standard tieouts.

@@williamryan9195 If your dog is on a tie out for a couple of hours, per day fine. If your dog is on a tie out for 8 or more hours every day. That is cruelty. You would not accept that as a security solution for any member of your family, why? It's inhumane. We recognize the health and emotional damage this would cause. Dogs don't have any special characteristic that makes it ok for them to be restrained in a small area like that for extended periods of time.

Hopefully they have good records at the City, because when fifteen years goes by and your pet has passed away they will still charge for the tags and if you have moved you never get the notices. They should have an online website that you can update if you move or your pet passes. In my case they just put the arrears on my credit report and I had to jump through hoops to get it resolved. You never think about your dog tags when you have to put your pet down. You are too emotional.

A tag or collar on your pet gets them home faster than any chip. That is if they escape. I had a homeless person walk into my yard they the back gate once while i was out working in the yard, so i had taken the luck of the gate to access the trash in the alley, well two of my dog got out, and a neighbor who was driving saw them, had them jump in their car, and immediately called the number on the tag. I got them back within 10 minutes.

Exactly. This new law is not about animals. It's about oppression and it's about getting us used to having micro chips being put in bodies to keep everybody nice and safe. This is to get people used to the GOVERNMENT tracking them. It is just one more chip off our freedoms. Once we lose those freedoms, we don't get them back.
We know this is not about animals because we had things that have always worked, but intentional underfunding has occurred so that we will allow the government to overstep their bounds, and to come in as the hero with this new wonderful solution to keep us all nice amd safe. But we were all safe before they started defunding these things.
We can increase funding to animal control services and we can license animals.
This is just way too much government overreach. This is not OK. Everybody should be screaming about this.

I am a European and it is mandatory when you move around Europe so that the dog can be identified and you can proof that it is vaxxed etc.

People who actually care for their pets, and not just for their own convenience, would never do this cruel procedure to them.

When I last looked into it years ago you not only needed to get the microchip but had to pay a yearly registration fee to one or more private companies for it to be any good. Each company had their own database so when a microchip was detected it had to checked against multiple companies to see if it was currently registered.
Seems to me if they were serious about microchipping there would be one national database for the entire country and registration would be free for everyone for the lifetime of the pet with a minimal fee to have the microchip implanted. I have no problem with microchips but the whole way they are regularly registered with private companies is a racket.

In my family going back 60+ years, all but one of our cats have been indoor/outdoor cats [that one was an adopted de-clawed cat which had to stay inside for its own safety.] It's true that in some neighborhoods it is necessary to keep cats inside at all times for their safety. But we never had any problems with cats wandering off and not coming back, or being stolen, etc. They were all spayed or neutered.
