    It's so heartwarming to see you using your TH-cam fame to help other local historians make their mark and maybe jump start their careers.
    (Yes that was a joke)

    Finding out who your father is blew my mind. But it makes sense and explains your desire, indepth knowledge, and storytelling ability. It may take me a while to digest this one, I would never have guessed. This made my day. ❤

    I live in SLO, and I can’t believe that the beard of knowlege was so involved in the community. Crazy.

    As a Santa Barbarian, did not know that the tri-county area had any semi famous TH-camrs, but low and behold

    I didn't know much about SLO, but both of your videos about the city's history are very informative and I learned a lot. It's also awesome how your dad narrated this one too.
    Hope you have a great weekend! Take care, Cypher.

    I was born there too, although I didn't have the income to go to Cal Poly. Thanks for helping to keep the history of this strange little town alive

    History runs through your veins (I bet you've never heard that one before). Wicked cool that you got your dad to narrate for you, I bet he was a helpful resource when doing your thesis on the local history too

      Absolutely. I regularly called him with questions about local history when writing the thesis. He also proof read my dissertation

      @ThatGuy-bh9qh Yeah it's expensive but their is so much fun things to do their if you are willing. Like did you go downtown? Or other areas of Slo? I mean we obviously have different opinions at the end of the day. I have a lot of fond memories of that city. While it's not perfect I definitely consider it a good place.

    • @Thefallenminecraftworld27075

    Great video. I'm local to the SLO area. Please do a video on San Juan Capistrano that's along the same vein. They are very much sister villages based on their earliest history.

    Immensely enjoy your wide array of videos and by fact-checking your citing sources admire their accuracy. One issue I have is while I appreciate the fast pace of your videos, at times I struggle to fully read and digest the quotes and statements presented because of the fast pace. To point, I consider myself a fairly fast reader who can finish a couple average sized books a week and still have time to sustain a healthy lifestyle of eating, sleeping, and watching NFL football, although sometimes concurrently. Anyway, thanks for the very enlightening content.

    Wtf another human who knows where SLO is??? Bro my moms gallery was across the creeek from the mission for like 15 years! She started at the old creamery when we were kids! I got my 2 AA's from cuesta last fall.
    Wild to see anyone let alone a big history tuber know the area.
    Also incredibly cool that you carried on the tradition in your family of studying and documenting the local history.

    Great work Cypher, but as a Santa Marian I find it questionable that you’re claiming strawberries but especially tri-tip for SLO. Really? Tri-tip? It’s called Santa Maria style barbecue for a reason!

    • @CynicalHistorian
      @CynicalHistorian  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's the entire central coast. Santa Maria didn't exist when all that started, so y'all definitely have no special claim to it

    • @politicalpayne2480
      @politicalpayne2480 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@CynicalHistorian tri-tip wasn’t called such until the 1950’s, and Santa Maria existed then, and a Santa Maria Safeway owner started selling it as tri-tip. Others have made the same claim, again the 1950s, as far north as Oakland. Kind of like the two shops in LA that claim they invented the French Dip. In regards to tri-tip, If you’re talking about spit roasting, which was done by the vaqueros here for hundreds of years (some are my ancestors), then sure, you’re right, but that ain’t tri-tip. Santa Maria definitely has a special claim to tri-tip.

    I ran track there in the late 60s, was pretty good, I tell people I was the fastest runner at SLO High. I rarely call the town SLO and prefer to call it San Luis Obispo as should you.
    It was tough job growing up there but somebody had to.
