    In particular, because of the fires in SoCal (esp the Bridge Fire in the San Gabriels) the weather picture for the Winter in Southern California is critical....,there are mud dams all along the base of those mountains which try to prevent catastrophic mudslides from pouring down into communities like Pasadena, Azusa, etc. Similarly, the fire north of Chico could bring mudslides down Bidwell drainage into the city of Chico, the same goes for communities north of Chico....,great report, Monica, you are a gem

    So California is going to get less rain, but not necessarily so we’re not sure. It might get more rain, but it might get less. Depends on the year.

    • @chrisdodt

      that fog was from farmland decomposition. we now have a fraction of farmland we had in those decades. climate change has nothing to do with this,

    When is anyone on mainstream news gonna start mentioning that El Niño an La Niña cycles have historically had more space between them? These cycles are supposed to take 18 months or more to shift between, not 6-9 months. We should not be experiencing both sides of the oscillation during a single year.

    The state of California climatologist/ state weather forecaster- released his forecast on October 1 of last year. He forecasted a dryer than normal year.
    🤣🤣🤣.
    Within 2-3 weeks the Pineapple Express started and did not let up for months. Last year was record breaking rain and snow throughout ALL OF CALIFORNIA.
    The state meteorologist got it 100% wrong.

    For 30 years I've been hearing that CA will be hammered with catastrophic rain, and hurricanes in the east due to global warming. Yet we've been below normal on rain in CA, and the east coast is having yet another below normal hurricane season. The good news for you is that at some point we will have another "great flood of CA" and you can say "see I told you so".

    Kinda feels like saying "we're not in a drought" gives people the wrong idea about our water situation. This term really needs to be updated, perhaps basing it on a 3-4+ year average.

    • @The_Cali_Dude_88
      @The_Cali_Dude_88 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Basically California is more often in a 'drought' state than an fully wer state. It's waves of seriously deep-snow are cyclical by a 11 year cycle. 🎉

    Climate change is to blame for both draught and wetter years?

    • @Vito_Tuxedo
      @Vito_Tuxedo 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Now you're catching on. That's why they changed the narrative from "global warming" to "climate change" after they got caught cherrypicking the data in 2009. "Global warming" was too specific; but since most people don't understand the difference between climate and weather, "climate change" is tailor-made as a boogeyman that covers all bases. Hot, cold, wet, dry - it doesn't matter. They can blame everything on "climate change". It's nonsense, but it works.

    Appreciate your detailed discussion on La Niña. What I don’t understand is why the cooler water pushes the jet stream farther north. What’s the connection?

    • @gammaraypotatoes3307
      @gammaraypotatoes3307 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The polar jet stream (60 degrees) is controlled by polar cell in the north (60-90 degrees) and the ferrel cell (30-60 degrees) in the south. The jet stream’s stream strength is derived from the difference in temperature from these two cells.
      It isn’t pushed northward as much as it is weakened when the temperature gradient is low allowing the north american low pressure system (what we perceive to be a california winter) to come in.
      The colder water in the ferrel cell would lead to a weakening of that polar jet stream.

    • @Sonoma_Coast
      @Sonoma_Coast 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are correct. And, I've only seen one meteorologist admit they were wrong.

  • @Vito_Tuxedo
    @Vito_Tuxedo 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    11:10 - Absolutely wrong. The data do NOT show that "the magnitude and intensity of individual storms...are increasing". Even if that were true, it would not necessarily have anything to do with climate (for example, interdecadal oscillations). But it's *_not_* true. This guy is just another one of the crowd of clowns who do not grasp the difference between climate and weather. It is an established fact that the frequency and severity of extreme weather events is not increasing. It's just false to say otherwise.
