Your reactions/analyses are informative and interesting, Tara, Many thanks. You might find Pentatonix's cover of "Gold" interesting. It's a continuous take, live, so to speak, of a very difficult song to perform either live or acapella, let alone both. Kiiara's original was obviously subject to significant studio chopping, remixing, etc, which makes the PTX cover even more amazing when you compare it to the original.

A little background. Superfruit started in 2013 as a TH-cam video channel for Scott Hoying (tall blonde) and Mitch Grassi (short brunette with the outrageous range) to vlog and have some fun separate from their Pentatonix work. They occasionally did musical episodes, often with friends, especially after the first year. Rise was a project with their LGBTQ+ friends as a response to the divisive political climate in 2016.Also in 2016 Scott and Mitch started working on a album as Superfruit. Released in two halves in 2017, every track on the album had an accompanying music video. In 2018 they went on a small tour during a break in their Pentatonix duties.
I think this video was a response to the Pulse massacre specifically, but otherwise an excellent synopsis. Also, "Imagine" was a 100% response to the Muslim ban and Trump's movement against diversity, hence the signs.

It's a gorgeous and super powerful cover, that contains a lot of passion as well, since it is sung to a Hans Zimmer soundtrack (which I find is a super interesting choice and also absolutely stunning). Superfruit was a separate channel formed by Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi, both of Pentatonix. Scott is the blonde lyric baritone; Mitch is the counter tenor - his range is 6 octaves plus one whole note. Mostly they just goofed around on Superfruit, but this song is deadly serious, as you already know.
Superfruit posted its final video on February 14, 2019.
One small quibble; they did have piano backup on this song. It was not a capella, though the piano dropped out before the end.

Mitch, from Pentatonix is an amazing Countertenor. He's done some awesome work with Pentatonix. As we slowly head into the festive season, one of my Xmas staples is their rendition of, "Carol of the Bells". Mitch is excellent in it.
You really should read the description in that video. There is a reason they came together as members of the LGBTQ+ community. I was a little disappointed you didn't at least mention it in passing.

That guys name is Mitch, and the blond hair is Scott. This was done because of Orlando shooting in the LGBTQ nightclub Pulse. Its pretty amazing and beautifully made!

Knowing now that Mitch was either going through cancer treatments then or had gone through them really makes this song even more significant in my opinion. I did not know until recently that that was why he had lost so much weight and had to shave his head or lost his hair. He’s always been beautiful and his strength throughout his battle is really amazing.

@Tara Simon Studios I have now watched plenty of your videos with Pentatonix and I love their music but I find myself watching more of your videos because you are absolutely gorgeous sorry just had to say this
I agree there was a few moments when they weren't in perfect harmony. But at same time remember mitch and Scott were, but the other 3 were guests so its not like they sing together regularly like ptx does. And it's only bc ptx is so perfect that it makes ANY mistakes, no matter how small, most noticeable. To me it was flawless from a group that came together to pay respect to a tragedy and basically slaughter of lbgqt+ community of which they are a part. Just as your job is to analyze singing style and talent and point out flaws, allow me to do same. I always love your critique, and agree esp in regard to mitch. But you should have read the message they left with this video explaining the seriousness of this song and what it meant. Listen to the lyrics not just the singing. Bc you gave not one comment about that. It's a powerful song if you understood what it was about. So I urge you to go back and listen with this knowledge in mind. It mite change the dynamics for you.

I don't know if you know about him. He's a singer from Kazakhstan with a 6 octave vocal range. This is the first song he sang when he appeared on the Chinese competition show "The Singer" in 2017 (he was 22) and has shot to fame worldwide since then. I personally think he has great technique and his voice is very dramatic, moving and just completely OUT OF THIS WORLD!

It is now Friday, November 25, 2022, the day after Thanksgiving.
Last Saturday (November 19th) Anderson Lee Aldrich tried to recreate the horror of the Pulse massacre at Club Q, in Colorado Springs, about 70 miles south of my home in a suburb of Denver. This time we got lucky - there was a hero present who ran *toward* the danger, not away, and actually managed to take down a man armed with an assault rifle and wearing body armor., so we "only" lost 5. One was the mother of an 11 year old boy. 😪
I've been playing this cover of "Rise" almost non-stop ever since, and have put it on my permanent playlist for its powerful and empowering message. It not only feels relevant because of the Club Q shootings, but relevant to my life.
One of the men in the video, Brian Justin Crum, had an amazing performance on America's Got Talent. If you have a chance, and haven't heard it already, I would love to see your reaction to his version of "Creep" by Radiohead.

I would really enjoy it if you react to one of their live performances of "Aha!" at the Star Vista in Singapore. It was recorded by a fan with some sort of hand held camera, and the audio isn't studio great or anything, but you get a real sense of PTXs ability live and you can hear Avi's low register and Mitch's high register.
