- These little Chihuahua puppies are 3 weeks old and their eyes are now open.
This is a very critical time to begin socializing them because with their ears and eyes open, they can begin sensing the great big world.
Hold them them, touch their ears and paws, speak softly to them, and let them experience household sounds like the vacuum, dishwasher, doorbell, and TV.

My sweetie pie is ANGRY when we are out and he is not being held, he will chase after people and bark at them. I think he feels safe while being held.

you'll need to work on socialising him more. He's behaving badly because he's scared. Lots of praise when he behaves outside, teach him the quiet command, say NO and ignore him for twenty seconds when he does something bad.

I never pick my boy up unless it's to get on the bus or when we go into a shop. I took him on a 4 hour train journey to visit my daughter in England when he was about 14 weeks. He sat on my shoulder which is his favourite place and everyone who was walking past spoke to him. He doesn't even flinch at fireworks became I played a silly game with him the first year I had him. It's noisy and rough and he would rather do that than be listening to outside noises. You have to make him want whatever you are doing to matter most in the world. I bet you'll be just fine 😊

Dempsey always seems to be snoring when I'm watching your videos. No finesse at all! These are gorgeous babies. 💖💖 A horrible thing happened last week where a 3year old Chihuahua died of fright after being chased by 3 big dogs who were off lead and totally out of control. It happened at Portobello Beach which is Edinburgh's seaside and is really popular with dog walkers. It's about 20 minutes walk from where I live but I've never taken Dempsey for some reason. The poor woman had her 2 Sweetie Pies which were brother and sister and managed to grab the little girl but the boy was grabbed by one of the big dogs. He wasn't bitten and the guy got him away from his dog but the poor wee thing just went floppy. A passer by took them straight to a nearby vet but he had died of a massive heart attack brought on by fright. The owner has been charged and the 3 dogs have apparently been rehomed separately. Maybe when his trial comes up the dogs will be put down? I can't imagine being the Chihuahua owner. It must be horrific but I really hope the other guy didn't know his dogs were out of control in certain situations and still took them to such a public place. Should the dogs be put down regardless?? What would happen where you live? Would they automatically be put down? Some people reckon any dog can be rehabilitated.
Anyway, you mind and keep safe and enjoy the election! I'm in bed but I'm watching for a few hours at least. Cheerio hen, as we say in Scotland. 💖🙋🐕
Oh no, what a terrible story for that poor sweetie pie and his human. It’s just heartbreaking 💔 honestly I don’t know what would happen here in the US. Likely there would be a civil case and the chihuahua owner would sue the big dogs owner for liability. Certainly he would have to pay for damages but I’m not sure he would get his dogs taken away from him. If they had bitten a human, they would be put to sleep, but since it was another dog, that might just he viewed as an unfortunate situation. I wonder what was going through his head taking those crazy dogs off their leash 🤦♀️

There’s no such thing as too much socialization unless it impedes on the puppies other critical care time such as sleeping. In that case, the puppy would eventually run out of energy and could potentially begin showing signs of low blood sugar. But as long as the baby gets plenty of rest and eats often enough, then she can spend the rest of her time on socializing.... basically just spending time with her human ❤️
I have two chihuahuas one was properly socialized and one wasn’t the difference in there temperament is night and day.
It really is. I'm so sorry about your poor baby who didn't get socialized properly. It really does make a huge difference. Best of luck to you and your sweetie pies.

My youngest chiwawa - terrier, that's her name sweetie pie, her mother 14 years old just had her third litter of pups now 3 weeks old she had 5 ,1 died at birth , my fault didn't even know she was pregnant, so far good mother like always is this very normal being 14 years old, 5 min encounter with a pink eyed little thing i guess is a long hair chihuahua when it cries it sounds like a human baby weird

So at week 10 when they can go to their new homes, do the same rules apply? Are there any differences between ages? I have two dogs right now and will be getting a puppy next year, can I let them meet or should I wait?
As long as both of your other dogs are fully vaccinated and they are not visiting places that could bring Parvo back into your home, it should be fine. Just keep in mind that Parvovirus can live in the dirt without a host for a long time. We can even track it into the house on the bottom of our shoes. Best to keep everyone safely at home until the puppy is fully vaccinated.
Can a puppy if I have an adult dog socialize with the puppy or until the haves all of their vaccines?
As long as you are certain the other adult is current on their vaccines is free from parasites, and doesn’t visit locations with parvovirus living in the dirt. Remember we can carry parvovirus into the house on the bottom of our shoes and likewise other pets. going in and out of the house can carry it in on the bottom of their feet. But with all those precautions checked off your list then an unvaccinated puppy can visit with an adult dog inside on disinfected floors. 😆 so many precautions…

Sadly I didn’t know about your channel when chica was a puppy and she is a little yappy when she sees another dog😣😔that is on me but she has no problem with humans🤗The puppies are so sweet☺️😊I remember holding chica like that and playing with her indoors🥰😊keep us updates and informed🥰❤️#1fan
It’s ok, there is still time for Chica to learn to like dogs. I know socialization is more difficult right now during Covid but maybe once things settle down you and Chica can start with weekly play dates. Hopefully you have some friends with sweetie pies ❤️
@@SweetiePiePets I have a friend with golden retrievers and I know chihuahuas tend to be feisty towards larger breeds. When they walk together she barks nonstop and I am trying to give her chicken to calm her down🤗It doesn’t always work but maybe the more often they are together the faster they will gain trust☺️But I shouldn’t rush it because trust takes time to build😊
