    Thank you Robert, this video continues to be super helpful 5 years later. Your instructions are so clear and easy to follow. I was able to disassemble my dad’s camera and use a little electronic contact cleaner to clean the zoom toggle button, which was giving him problems (both for zooming and for me using operations). Now the toggle is working perfectly again and he is going to be thrilled.

      That's excellent Jason! Great work. And I'm glad the video was helpful and that you were able to fix your dad's camera. Thank you for letting me know. 🙂

    Inspired by this video, I ordered a new lcd screen for my Lumix ZS20 and successfully replaced the shattered lcd.Printing the layout diagram is a brilliant suggestion to keep track of which tiny screw goes where and keep them from getting lost. A quoted $237 repair cost me $31 including rush shipping for the lcd. Thank you Robert!

    EXCELLENT TUTORIAL!!! Roberts instructions are so incredibly clear and easy to follow! He did an excellent job both explaining how to do everything and showing the tiny details.
    My camera had a bunch of really bad black spots visible on all photos. (NOTE: NEVER use canned air on a camera!) Although I have absolutely no experience with this kind of repair, and sending it off was about the same price as buying a new camera, I figured expected it probably wouldn't even turn on when I was done but I had nothing really to lose except some time. Therefore, I decided to give it a go.
    I took the camera all apart and then took the lens apart (per his other video). The lens disassembly/reassembly was really challenging. I considered buying a used lens assembly to pop in and think it would have worked fine, but the cost of that part on Ebay is about the price of a used camera and my old ZS19 had an damaged battery door in addition so i didn't think it was worth the investment.
    In the end, the camera actually turned back on after re-assembly and the lens even popped open and zoomed, the scene selection worked, but the black dots remained and I screwed up the lens assembly so that the camera now can't focus properly and gets a "System Error (Zoom)" message, too, meaning it's done for good.
    Too bad because I really really like this camera! Anyway, I just thought I'd report that if you're tossing the camera anyway, and you are the kind of person who like jigsaw puzzles and tedious tasks, go for it! You'll find Robert's video 100% helpful!
    Good Luck!

    Thank you Robert for your excellent videos that helped me repair the zoom problem with my camera. I had the zoom motor wire problem you have described but when I took it apart the other fold with the very thin wires on the circuit board broke, so no hope of repairing. I think that the circuit board itself gets fragile over time and breaks, especially in hot countries. Luckily I found the lens assembly back cover at Aliexpress, that saved me a lot compared to Panasonic service prices, but it of course came without the sensor. But now reassembled and so far it's working. Thank you again for your great work!

      Hey Chris, thanks for letting me know that the video helped you out. And also about what you encountered with the other issues. I'm glad that you were able to get it repaired and that it's working good again. Good job!

    Thank you for taking so much trouble to show how to do this. I have stripped it down and the camera was surprisingly clean. Unfortunately the lens i stuck in the open position and nothing I have done has resolved the issue . I have used an air duster throughout and into the lens sections as much as possible but still it is stuck open. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge in such a patient and easy to understand manner. It was a pleasure listening to you.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rich. By "stuck open" do you mean that the lens is extended out all the time and it will not retract, or do you mean that the lens cover is not closing?

    • @alvor2762
      @alvor2762 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Thebobfactor Good morning Robert. Thank you for your reply. The lens is in the normal open position and will not close when I switch-off. The zoom function is not working either.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alvor2762, is there any kind of error message or error number being displayed? It sounds like the problem that is common with that model, where some of the conductors in one of the flat ribbon cables burns open, and the zoom motor no longer works and it will not extend or retract. In that case though you would see an error message on the main LCD display. If that is the case then you would have to repair the flat ribbon cable. I show how to do that in this video: th-cam.com/video/wx8e0z0zsg4/w-d-xo.html Let me know if that looks like it may be the problem.

    I have watched your older videos and completely disassembled, cleaned and reassembled my old zs1 camera. I have a Panasonic Lumix ZS40 that has a stuck lens. I want to disassemble and clean it. Could you tell me how different it is from the ZS20? Will you by any chance be posting a video on the ZS40 in the near future? Thank you Robert for all your excellent and easy to follow videos!

    Nice video! I'm wanting to replace the date and time internal battery on a similar model. It looks like I see it in the top peice at 9:24, is that correct? I have a DMC-ZS5 and assume it's very similar, but can't find any resources on line w/ explosion diagrams for it. Any hints appreciated Robert!

      Thank you! Yes, that is the battery location for the ZS19 & 20. However, I don't believe that is where it is on a ZS5. I don't have a ZS5 to find the battery location, but it is probably the same location as on a ZS6 & ZS7, which is on the SD card circuit board. Here's a link to my video showing the SD card circuit board on a ZS 6/7. th-cam.com/video/o9O43EOkiKY/w-d-xo.html

      Hi. You need a "0000" Philips head screwdriver. I show the screwdriver and talk about the size of the screwdriver at 56-seconds into the video: th-cam.com/video/V38GBeRXkco/w-d-xo.html. Good luck with your repair.

    Can you tell me where to find the firmware on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ35 ?

    • @Thebobfactor

      According to the manual for the ZS25, which is the U.S. version of the TZ35, you can find it in the menu under . The info is on page 52 of the manual. Here's a link to the manual: help.panasonic.ca/viewing/ALL/DMC-ZS25P/OI/vqt4p14/vqt4p14.pdf
