    So good. Thank you for taking the time to produce and share this proces. You have a natural (or very practiced) explanation of such technical processes

    It's immediately obvious that here we are in the hands of a master - the TH-camr's, TH-camr!
    Utterly patient and completely thorough, the quality and detail of the video is truly exceptional; the commentary comprehensive.
    Which means the position of the critical alignment marks are clearly shown and pointed out - along with their relative positions at every stage. In reality, some of the marks are actually quite tricky to spot - even with magnification and with adjusting the lighting angle.
    As it's also easy to lose position with all the rotations, I ended up putting a small blob of white correction fluid on each alignment triangle. Not for the purists - but handy!
    A tour de force - many thanks for sharing!

    Thank you so much for producing this video. I was able to follow this video and successfully repair my Panasonic camera. I would like to add one very important note. When assembling the lens assembly one needs to use caution not to break the little tabs on inner lens frame (how do I know this?). These tabs are very thin and easy to break if one puts pressure on them with ones finger while snapping the lens assembly together. The good news is that replacement parts are available from Panasonic. The part number for frame (with the little tabs) is VDW2439. I was able to purchase this part from Encompass Supply Chain Solutions, Inc. For $6.00 plus shipping.

    Great work, man! followed your instruction step by step, got it disambled AND Reassambled (thats normally the problem). And the reason for not working was exactly a damaged cable (your other video). Thank you so much!

    Thanks for this video. I couldn't do it without him. But how do I disassemble the main lens? I had a circular stain of cleaning liquid. There are probably two in a row.

      Sorry, I wasn't able to make a video for this lens because the lens is very complicated and I have not been able to disassemble and reassemble it 100%. Many times some parts would end up breaking and then the lens was could not be repaired at all.

    It was a great video, thanks! Unfortunately you didn't mention a problem at 6:32. I was trying to put the two plastic rings together as you suggested, to see how it works. Unfortunately, I had already taken them fully apart at that point, and you didn't mention how to align them to get them back together properly. Apparently there is a "bad" way to put them back together that gets them totally stuck together, and I subsequently broke the outer ring in several places trying to get them back apart. It looks like some of the inner plastic rings are broken too. :( Anyway, it would have been nice to have a word of caution here about getting the pieces stuck together while trying out the mechanism.
    The camera was really old anyway, and probably destined for the trash bin, but I was sort of hoping to clean it out and get it working again.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the problem that you encountered Ben. I did mention in the video how to put it back together though, when I talked about and also showed where the pin goes back in the grove.

    • @bendgilbert
      @bendgilbert 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Thebobfactor No worries. I saw how you were lining it up, and tried to follow that, but for some reason the parts got stuck when I tried to put them together that way - not quite sure why. I can do it now that all the inner parts are taken out, so perhaps the inner parts were aligned wrong, etc.

    Robert: your video is very explicit, congratulations. But I have a problem: how can I clean the inner face of the most external lens of my lumix zs19?

  • @scraperfect

    EXCELLENT TUTORIAL!!! Roberts instructions are so incredibly clear and easy to follow! He did an excellent job both explaining how to do everything and showing the tiny details.
    My camera had a bunch of really bad black spots visible on all photos. (NOTE: NEVER use canned air on a camera!) Although I have absolutely no experience with this kind of repair, and sending it off was about the same price as buying a new camera, I figured expected it probably wouldn't even turn on when I was done but I had nothing really to lose except some time. Therefore, I decided to give it a go.
    I took the camera all apart and then took the lens apart (per his other video). The lens disassembly/reassembly was really challenging. I considered buying a used lens assembly to pop in and think it would have worked fine, but the cost of that part on Ebay is about the price of a used camera and my old ZS19 had an damaged battery door in addition so i didn't think it was worth the investment.
    In the end, the camera actually turned back on after re-assembly and the lens even popped open and zoomed, the scene selection worked, but the black dots remained and I screwed up the lens assembly so that the camera now can't focus properly and gets a "System Error (Zoom)" message, too, meaning it's done for good.
    Too bad because I really really like this camera! Anyway, I just thought I'd report that if you're tossing the camera anyway, and you are the kind of person who like jigsaw puzzles and tedious tasks, go for it! You'll find Robert's video 100% helpful!
    Good Luck! and thanks, Bob!
    PS The very hardest part for me was getting the zoom parts back together correctly. After struggling for hours, they suddenly popped back in place and worked! But then the fatal flaw occurred when...the two silver collars became stuck together somehow, and eventually a very thin gasket broke and came out when I worked to separate them (cutting my knuckle in the process). Iish you luck, great satisfaction, and I know it was me who caused the disastrous results, not the instructor!

    Hi Betty. I usually get all of my Lumix parts on Ebay.
    Here is a link to the lens unit for your ZS19:
    www.ebay.com/itm/PANASONIC-LUMIX-TZ27-ZS19-ZOOM-LENS-UNIT-REPLACEMENT-PART-BLACK-NO-CCD/361843545385?hash=item543f8e5529:g:GBUAAOSwo4pYQd4J
    The lens unit can be a bit spendy, so another way is to just look on Ebay for broken ZS19's or ZS20's that do not have a lens issue, and then use the lens unit out of it. A lot of times you can pick them up for $20 - $50.

    Robert - few people explain the procedure so well! - Congrats! ... I have a question - my lens unit (Leica 30x of a ZS40) DOES NOT LET LIGHT through. I took of the camera (thanks for the disassembly video) - took it off while 'extended' and there is no light going through. If you look through there is like a 'shutter' blocking the light form either side you can distinguish the shutter closing the view. Is there a shutter inside? I would think so.. this lens are not the same as in this video. That connector on the side is not there. Can that shutter be triggered without opening all the lens unit? .. If you have another video.. let us know.

    I found broken parts in my Panasonic Lumix ZS19 Lens assembly. Can I purchase just the Lens assembly? Do you know where? I love your video. I spent a couple of hours assessing what was wrong with my camera. If not too much I'll replace the Lens assembly, otherwise I might purchase new. Thanks... great video...

    Hello, I have a DMC TZ81, the zoom open fine but when it closed it makes a sound. What can be the isssue

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Albert. That is most likely dirt or something else gritty that is inside the lens unit causing friction. The sound you hear could actually be one of the plastic gears used to extend and retract the lens, and the gear is slipping when the lens gets stuck as it's being retracted. It may eventually stop on it's own, but I doubt it. It may require opening the lens unit up and cleaning it. I'm not familiar with the DMC TZ81 at all though, and so I'm not sure how involved it is to disassemble the lens.

    Hello your video is great. I have zs20 with broken lens. Its totally messed up. Zs20 spare lenses are dramatically expensive. If I bought zs8 or tz20 tz25 16x optical zoom lens. Is it working in zs20 mainboard. Thanks for the great job wish i knew this video in 2014.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the lens from a ZS8 or TZ20 & 25 will not work in the ZS20.

    Hi Robert!
    Amazing video, great details, thank you! Unfortunately I'm struggeling with putting it back together.
    At minute 19:25 I'm not getting the two tubes back together. I can slide it up to a certain point and then It's stuck. However, when I don't use the alignment marks I can actually slide it up smoothly, but it's obviously wrong, as there is a gap of maybe half a millimeter. I actually bought a replacement tube, still no luck. Do you have a sugggestion how to fix it, or did I break something?
    I know your video is a bit older, but maybe you ran into the same problem before :)
    Thank you!

      Hi. Is the inner lens unit assembly working properly, where you can turn it and the lens will move in and out (time 18:13) ? If so, then sometimes the lens unit can be just ever so slightly out of place when you are putting the inner sleeve back on. Make sure that the lens unit has been turned counter-clockwise as far as possible (time 19:11), and then when inserting the inner sleeve into the lens unit assembly and turning it (time 19:45), put your finger on the top of the actual lens itself and lightly push on the lens while turning the inner sleeve. That may be all it needs to get the inner sleeve to fall into place on the pins correctly. Give that a shot and let me know if that helps at all. -Bob

      @@Thebobfactor Thank you for your reply!
      I tried it and got to the next step that was not working for me before!!
      Unfortunately I also broke a little plastic piece. A bit frustrating as I already bought one part and another part would exceed the price of the camera... I know now what was wrong though, I guess the tube (time 12:00 This part: tinyurl.com/y2gaxfl9) was slightly bended or not fitting in some other way, something was wrong with it. That tube was blocking in step 19:11 and I pushed a bit too hard and it broke. I'll keep the parts and start looking for another broken one, maybe I get a working one in the end.
      Thank you again for your help and the time you put in answering my question! I really appreciate it!

    io ho la lumix sz 40 ed e la stessa lente leica. l'ho smontata per pulire la lente da qualche piccolo granello di polvere pero' mi e stato veramente difficile riassemblare la lente nel tubo telescopico. troppi incastri fragili e sottili..grazie ancora per il video. comunque ho lubrificato le guide con il lubrificante teflon spray secco.
