  • Hello friends! In today's video, I wanted to show you how to insert shoulder pads into a T-shirt. Some trends I've been noticing seem like shoulder pads could make a comeback! I used to refuse to wear outfits if they didn't have shoulder pads in the 80s! How time flies lol. Anyway, if you enjoyed this video and found it useful, please don't forget to give this video a like, share, comment, and subscribe if you haven't already!

    Wow! Great video. I have 35+ years of sewing and I remember this style. I was trained to tack the shoulder pads at the two ends and the curve area. Thanks for showing me how to completely sew the shoulder pads to the fabric.

    I have been making and altering my clothes for 45 years, and I learn something new from you ALL THE TIME!! Today's video introduced clear stabilizing elastic, and as 95% of my projects are knits, this is another tool I can use to tailor a more professional look.

    My mom had those eighty-style jumpsuits with shoulder pads and I always loved them. But as e teen those were a no-go for my peers and I wasn't brave enough to wear them. Now it's my turn, finally😅

    I love the 80's look & used to own big shoulder suits, but I always took out the shoulder pads. I already have broad shoulders. It's a shame if clothing is being sold without the pads being detachable. But it's great that you showed how to tailor a Tshirt for someone with sloping shoulders!

      The big shoulders on blazers and coats are also around, but not as universally popular :)

    This was very detailed video, and as always shows your superior skills. Thank you. I am not sure I understand where to begin and end the shoulder pads on the shoulder. What would you have done if you needed to keep the sleeves on the t-shirt? Another video? Would you make a video showing positioning and making removable pads?

    • @DowntownTailoring
      @DowntownTailoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I perfectly see where are you coming from. For detachable pads, it's just a matter of adding or removing. However, when fashion makes a come back, it's usually on a new way. This time shoulder pads are wrapped inside the shoulders. We'll see how this trend will progress and if it will settle at all. Cheers 😊

  • @hjot483

    Thank you for this!! Always liked shoulder pads, still do. Any high-end jacket is going to have shoulder pads for structure~not too large. Makes waist appear smaller, improves posture, clothing looks tailored, therefore more expensive

  • @PracticalPip
    @PracticalPip 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was a great video! I like this trend, but it's really not for everyone. I never wanted to try this sleeveless t-shirt shoulder pad trend because I have an inverted triangle body type and it doesn't look so nice on me. But... on someone with narrow and sloped shoulders this looks fantastic with straight leg jeans. I like that you showed how to line the pads because I still do want to use them when I make jackets or blazers, but I never really knew how to line them nicely. Thank you soooooo much for your expertise! I have been tailoring my own clothing since 2013 and am self taught with all I do. learn so much from your videos! They are by far the most useful to me when it comes to showing sewing techniques.

      Awwww thank you so much! That means the world to me! I agree, this is definitely more flattering on certain body types. And yes, lining them is a very useful skill :))

    I am soooo excited about this video I have learned so much from you. I just love you. Thank you for all you do.
    Now I have a request if you ever have this to do please make a video.
    I scored some baby gowns on Etsy for 1.98 each I purchased several. I would like to add side invisible zippers to make them easier to embroider. I have never inserted an invisible zipper and I know it would be hard on a stretchy T-shirt type of fabric like the baby gowns are made from. They d have elastic at the bottom so I know I would have to cut them on the side with the zipper and start the unzip at the bottom, I do plan on using some of the gowns to make matching baby hats maybe with knots on top not sure yet. I have watched several videos on invisible zips but none are as good at explaining things as you are. I don't even see a video with "making a baby gown with invisible zipper :(

    I loved reasonable shoulder pads in the 80s (but some were rediculous. Would you explain the different types, (shapes) of shoulder pads and where each shape is used. Round, oval, rectangle there were all shapes and sizes in the 80s. And some were much more flattering than others. I would need to see shirt on a body to see if I liked it.

    For me I don't like shoulder pads because I already have very square shaped shoulders and shoulder pads accentuates my shoulder shape even more.
    ON another note, I'd like to know if you have a video on how to transform a pullover sweater into a cardigan style by adding a full zipper. I've tried to do this but when finished there is some wavyness in the zipper that does not look professional. Thank you!

    • @DowntownTailoring
      @DowntownTailoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I still haven't made this video but I can tell you that it's very important to make a stay stitch before sewing the zipper to avoid waves. Hope this helps 😊
