    Thank you so much for this great video! I always wondered how to thread the twin-needle. Usually I use the second method but with a fake-overlock stitch, because I don't have a serger. The tip with going a little bit up at the sides is really helpful, I will do this next time :)

    Thank you for sharing your way for a straight hem. I have found with skirts if i make a straight hem and put it on it dos not look straight at all. So now i put it on first tray to put the pin on good spot and hem. Helps big time. Now i can do it on shirts as well😊. 🥳cool new machine..have fun with it.

      Yes! That's right. With skirts we need to make a slight curve as well. Pinning around helps a lot 😉

    Thanks for doing this one! Doing t-shirt knits can be so intimidating because they are so easy to mess up! I would love to learn more; I would like to be able to make my own tank tops because I like them with high necks and you can't always find them in stores.
    I would also love if you would do some tutorials on working with athletic wear and swimsuit type fabrics, please!

      Wholeheartedly agree! I like crew neck tank tops and when I do find one, they’re never long enough! I want to make some. And the same with the sportswear! The quick-dry bras are always way too tight in the band and shoulder straps, but if I size up, the chest material is too tall and wide for my chest. I’m trying to make some simple spandex bras/bralettes and would love to get all the tips and tricks from @DowntownTailoring especially things like stitch length and width for best zig-zag stretch, when to use elastic thread, when to stretch elastic while sewing, how to not get skipped stitches when stretching the elastic, and how to keep the thin/delicate knit material from forming tiny lumps under the thread when sewing it to the elastic band???

    My favorite method is using the cover stitch machine. Before I got that machine, I serged the edge and then sewed on the sewing machine. Sometimes with a single needle and sometimes with a double. I would put a wash out stabilizer so the hem wouldn't stretch out of shape while sewing. TFS

    This has inspired me to buy a twin needle! I've been sewing for 45 years and have never used one. I go to a lot of concerts and have a lot of band tees that are just way too long (and sleeves too long as well) so this will be very useful for me.

Loosening the tension on the bobbin as you show here, makes me a little nervous that I will do it wrong and mess things up - but I'm so glad you showed it. Thanks for the video! Thank you for your video and have tried both ways as demonstrated. I find some stretch t'shirts stretch a bit when doing a hem but I do get good results with the twin needle way the best. The Coverpro CPX is a machine I have my eye on so as to do the hems on t'shirts. I have a Janome 2160 DC sewing machine and have tried different ways of sewing the hems but do not get a perfect result. So have a Serger, Elna, and I just do the edge with this then I do a decorative stitch that has the stretch symbol and seems to work best. Also have used the fusible interfacing multi stretch which is for light to medium weight knits, jersey, woven and stretch fabrics which is iron-on and this makes the finished job look fantastic. Its a Birch product we have here in Australia and I bought a metre to have on hand just for these projects. Have the tape and used that but found on some Jersey it made the hem a bit wavy so as you can see have tried different ways. So saving up for the Coverpro CPX and look forward to your unboxing and seeing a demo.

    I liked the first one best and you have given me the confidence to buy a twin needle. I thought they were only for commercial machines. I didn’t know I could buy one for a home sewing machine. If I buy a stretch needle, can I use that same needle on non stretchy fabrics, like hemming the edge of a cotton mask?

    • @DowntownTailoring
      @DowntownTailoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can. In fact I use more often ballpoint needles the most, because they are pretty much in between, that way I don't need to change needles in between projects. As alterations' shop. I could work easily on ten projects per day. Cheers 🙂

    I like the first one the best I have twin needles but have never used them. This video is on-time A lady asked me last week if I would shorten some T-shirts for her to wear over her bathing suits. I am just a little confused how to measure the hem for her, so I have her put the shirt on and do I fold it up and pin? I am really interested in this and I thought you had to sew with a stretch stitch? I don't remember the one presser foot tip I will have to go watch some tip videos of yours again. Thank you for all you do for us I can't wait to see your new machine. I love my Janome I have 2 one more than 40 years old and one Janome 9000 35+ years old they are good machines.

      Thank you so much! Looking forward to making that video :). The stitch length on the second is 3.5 because when it’s done, it looks smaller than that! To answer your second question, I would recommend a double needle because it’s especially designed for stretchy material and it won’t break. Notice how it’s in zig-zag at the back!

    • @DowntownTailoring
      @DowntownTailoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Kathy. You are getting this corded effect because the bobbin tension is too tight. You can take a small screw driver and loosen it up just a tad. Try ti sew a little bit again. You'll notice that it will be better. If still isn't great, loosen up a little more until you get the desired effect. You shouldn't give it a full turn at once as it's very delicate and you also can lose the screw. Please, let me know if this helps. Together we can find the way. Cheers 🙂
