I played against you today with a deck that was very similar to the one you are running in this video. I had a red green deck and was splashing the black green spider. Thanks for a great game. I watch your videos every day with my 8 year old son and he was home when we were playing and freaking out!
So many paid actors in this run! 47:09 not using the Monstrous Emergence to go for the win is crazy. Open blue mana and 2 cards in hand had the opponent shook I guess.
I think white black eerie is criminally underrated. Dashing Bloodsuckers are remarkably hard to get through for some decks and swinging with him double pumped is massive. Ethereal Armor the Blade!
@DiscardatRandom had a few trophies with BW. You are definitely right about reanimation not being your main theme. You will just end up with some number of loners and faithfuls plus moth and cocoon and live or die, anyway. You dont have to look for rhem. Plus the removal options you have at common are so good. I know it doesn't have the best win rate, but I like running it and it's usually an open lane
This was very fun to watch. I feel like it’s pretty common to whiff on eerie cards in blue white. Unless you land a gremlin tamer or some rare, so was great to see a skilled player win without it. Thanks for the great content Paul! This may be my fav video of yours yet
Impressive play sequencing and planning, getting as much value as you could from your cards. Thought this was going to get run over - especially by the Gruul deck!
I 100% agree with your assessment on white. I tried many times to play Boros. Sadly, I can’t seem to make it work. I’d rather start with G/R/U than white. I happily ship great boros/azorious cards to my left to force them into white, so I can the rewards in the 2nd pack.
I'm with you on the white is bad outside of being with blue or a nutty w/r deck. I opened green overlord in back to back drafts while getting centipedes to force my way into jund or BUG.
Regarding the interaction between the fungus and the room: You can only react to unlocking a room if the ability specifically targets the unlocking of the room(text like "counter unlocking of a room" which doesn't exist in the set AFAIK), otherwise it's basically similar to paying a sacrifice cost (where you sacrificing a creature doesn't go on the stack). Once you've unlocked the aquarium, the manifest went on the stack, and that's the first trigger the opponent could react to . What the opponent could have done there was while having priority, use the fungus' activated ability to destroy the room. Since unlocking is sorcery speed, you couldn't have unlocked in response, hence no manifest.
Piranha Fly is surprisingly good in this set given there aren't that many flying or reach creatures to deal with. They would have been unplayable in Bloomburrow.
Paul, loving your drafts and definitely agree with your decision to not dive into GW. I just want to point the irony of GW being comically open P1. Someone to your left definitely rubbing their hands seeing a full deck being passed. Is GW the new Otters?
WB reanimator has overperformed for me the few times I've drafted it. last instance was an extremely mediocre pile with 1 rite of the moth for reanimation and miasma demon and doomsday excruciator as topend targets. still went 6-3 which blew my expectations. fuel of the deck was triple cynical loner consistently binning rite and demons.
I agree that UW is a stronger pair, but I would have loved to see you draft BW. I noticed that on myself, tgat as the format progresses, sometimes we think some pairs feel more instinctual, because we haven't drafted the other combinations so much.
Just once I wish I could see you draft a green white survival deck instead of passing every awesome survival card possible that comes your way. So many bats and shrewd survival guys and rip. RIP indeed.
With the Shroudstomper early pick, seeing a valgavoth's faithful 6th pick. Wouldnt that be a sign that black-white was the way to go? Or do you not want to play white-black since it's the weakest architype?. (Btw.. my last black white deck was pretty cool, but went 0/3). Btw, I'm on team surveil first. It's odd though that you say you are aswell, but you did actually manifest first.
Yes that was the other direction to go. I disagree that it plays very well. It's one of the worst performing archetypes in the set next to Dimir, Selesnya, and Izzet.
Some of Paul's opponents are Mythic or Diamond yet have literally zero clue how to play the game 😂 That first opponent might be the single worst game of Magic I've seen this year...
Except red white also don't like black red. I think that means I don't like that aggressive card. But I like red green. Kind of weird. I think that's because I like grave things to gain battlefield power
I draft a mediocre deck and play against players who don't make any mistakes with much better decks. Cheon drafts a mediocre deck and plays against the greatest collection of punters the world has ever seen.
@@haumph yeah I also commented this before I finished the video, the play with using your Vanish From Sight to get your Manifest back and flipping it was excellent. I definitely would have just cast it on the attacker to preserve my life and missed lethal. That win alone makes up for the "gifted" wins. I'm also a barely mythic level player in a good month so take anything I say with a grain of salt hahaha
@@DiscardatRandomlimited is contextual. statements like that are pointless and do not add value to the conversation. in this seat, esper reanimator was the best deck by a margin.
I was nervous. My buddy just turned me onto his content and now he's having a good laugh about my match. My brain melted when I saw I was playing paul@BCleal
Lol my buddy is having a great laugh about it. My stomach was in knots when I saw HAUMPH #4. I'm no means a good magic player but it was as if my brain didn't work at all haha
From how diamond+ have been playing, I have a conspiracy theory that Wizards has slightly buffed the shuffler for those who pay. I bought a gem pack and didn't suffer from a poor opener for like a week....

Oh yeah that game was super close! Clutch top deck for the win!
That first opponent was certainly something lol
I'm at silver rank and I play opponents far more skilled than that. I wonder how is that even possible lol
I would have guessed they weren't familiar with the interface if they weren't pretty high ranked.
Where are opponents like that when I'm playing... Just as the removal after lethal attack play in game 5.
Poor guy got nervous playing against a celebrity, cut him some slack 😅
That Gruul player not playing Monstrous Emergence precombat was wild.
This is why I watch you. I would not have been able to do what you did and every time I watch you do these things I learn.
That's great to hear!
So many paid actors in this run! 47:09 not using the Monstrous Emergence to go for the win is crazy. Open blue mana and 2 cards in hand had the opponent shook I guess.
As a professional poker player, I was dying at the "if you're gonna rely on luck..." bit... I know Sam was smiling when he saw this too.
Haha I hope he was watching!
"Since I don't really have much of a better line here..." as they were actively dying was peak XD A happy surprise!
I think white black eerie is criminally underrated. Dashing Bloodsuckers are remarkably hard to get through for some decks and swinging with him double pumped is massive. Ethereal Armor the Blade!
The draft archetype was more Orzhov reanimator, and black is considered the weakest color in this set
@@Tuturial464the reanimator cards are terrible you just play a midrange/eerie gameplan and hard cast shroud stompers

I bet first op saw rank 4 and was so nervous the whole game 🤣🤣
I'm going to assume that was what happened.
Finding the Vanish on Domination instead of your creature was smart. I might’ve missed that one.

That winning line against the other azorious player was a great find
It was out of sheer desperation!
That poor guy at 21:30, I've been in the shoes of making those kinds of mistakes, it feels so rough
Yeah I swear I'm not that bad I was laughing hysterically with my every move. I've made bad plays but this takes the cake. Haha
They should have made an enduring endurance card lol
You were so kind with that first player
I think you did a great job on a confusing draft dude. Please post the vid when you get the nuts reanimate deck ❤ appreciate you
Will do!
Piranha Fly is surprisingly good in this set given there aren't that many flying or reach creatures to deal with. They would have been unplayable in Bloomburrow.
Unplayable in MH3 as well with all the secret reach.

He played green white a few weeks ago, didn't go well.
It's just that survival is so, so bad.
Survival is wildly unplayable. I have a 50 ish percent win rate with it
Survival doesn’t work once you hit platinum lol
man every time i go into a draft it feels like this, but i feel im forced into boros, and that colour combo feels like a trap.
11:57 oof, esper control wouldve been a juiced deck for this seat (i havent watched the rest yet, i hope you do well anyways!)
Way to buckle down, and rely on sheer raw skill to win👍👍
Yeah we had to play real tight in this set!
What was your table doing Paul? Tough draft to navigate!
Is this a speed run? :D UWU aggro confirmed (not really but work with me here)
Where are all these diamond players from game 1 on my ladder? I don’t seem to face them ever 🤔
