    Nvidia's like shopping in the supermarket. 12oz can of beer is now 10oz. Pound of coffee is now 14oz. Snickers bar is a touch smaller also. All of it's designed so we think we're getting the usual, and with Nvidia, we're getting a more powerful card to replace our 1060. Am sure they will launch a 1670 and 1680 soon. And they still got the 17, 18 and 1900's to fill.
    Other than confusing the consumer, which is pretty normal, they at least keep all the TH-cam channels busy running benchmarks!

      They will NEVER release "the 17, 18 and 1900's to fill" in the current state of the GPU market. We should rather hope that Intel and AMD actually stick it to Nvidia and compete, but it seems like a stretch that Nvidia would cannibalize their own lineup

    • @wasd____
      @wasd____ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, except they're not. You're not getting *less* performance for the same money as compared to previous generations. You're getting more. It'd be like the grocery store upsizing their packaging so that now you're getting 20oz in a "pound of coffee" instead of 16oz. Also, your video card isn't like coffee. It doesn't run out regularly, and you're not likely to keep buying new ones unless you actually need one because your old one broke or just can't hack it anymore.
      I get that people are butthurt that cards aren't getting both faster *and* cheaper at the same time, or at least justifying the price of the new generation with ridiculous huge performance leaps, but we're not in the era of Moore's law anymore. Something had to give. But the value proposition in terms of processing power per dollar is overall still getting better, not backsliding.

    Jay, what are your thoughts regarding budget builds and the current graphics environment? Last year several channels did builds in the $300 to $500 range using the 2200G or 2400G to avoid the insane (at the time) graphics and memory markups. What is the current upgrade path? Another 8 gigs of memory and a 1660 TI? Replace a slow 8 gig kit with a fast 16 gig and a 1660? Straight to the 2060? Thanks for what you do!

    • @thecraftedalliance
      @thecraftedalliance 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Go straight to the 2060 if you were planning on buying a 1660 or the ti already it’s not that much more. That’s the general census about GPUs currently since it’s 50% more performance in a 2060 over 1660ti for only roughly 30% more price along with the features of DLSS and ray tracing if you even feel the need to. The ram the case is almost any type of ram can reach 2933mhz fairly easily and past that frequency there’s not as major gains on ryzen so I’d get 16gbs of total system memory. If you do not have an SSD yet that is the biggest upgrade you can make on a system I believe personally and so do many others even if it’s a small 60gb one just to hold windows you’ll notice the difference in programs not just startup. Hopefully that helps. :)

    • @johnmoore1495
      @johnmoore1495 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Are you running 2x4GB sticks with 2 slots or 4 slots? If 4 slots then I'd say just get another set of 2 sticks. RAM speed isn't going to make that big of a difference unless you got bottom shelf 2133-2400mhz RAM. If you're purely going for value I'd say get a 1660 and another 8GB. However if you really want to spend a set amount of money then I'd say get the 1660Ti with another 8GB of RAM over a 1660 with a new set of 16 GB of RAM.
      1-2. GTX 1660 with 8GB of RAM. (Value)
      1-2. GTX 1660Ti with 8GB of RAM. (More likely to increase performance than option 3)
      3. GTX 1660 with a new 16GB kit.

    I'm still wondering why they didn't place the 1660 and 1660ti with the rest of the lineup in terms of naming. Imo it should have been GTX2060 / GTX 2060ti / RTX2060 / RTX 2070 / RTX 2080. As they all use the turing architecture and the gtx versions simply have the ray tracing feature stripped away. Putting these two cards in the 11 series lineup must make them look like last generation cards for anyone not keeping up with tech.

    Go 1660 219$ model or go for a 2060. Everything in between is just filler and literally a waste of money. It will not matter much in daily use and "a few extra FPS" will not be visible during normal gaming since the difference isn't large enough. Even though the 1660 TI seems to be a lot better on paper, it's simply not on "a different level". It's not like the difference between the different cards in the 10XX series like the 1060 3GB and 1060 6GB - or the 1050 vs the 1050 TI where the 2 gigs of RAM on the 1050 was massively inferior to the 4GB on the 1050 TI - which made it an actual usable card where the 1050 was much less so. Nvidia might have screwed up at bit in making the 1660 and the 1660 TI a bit too similar to justify the extra cost, especially with the performance jump you get if you buy a 2060. The 2060 can run many titles at a totally different level - which means: If you can't afford a 20XX card, go for the "good enough" solution - which is the 1660 - OR - Wait ½ a year for the AMD Navi and hope that will shake up the marked - and then buy the card with more horsepower.

    Of course now, the cheapest 1660 available is $250 if you can get it. And a 2060 runs $500 and more. I've got one of those cards that "should have never existed", I got a 1060 3GB. And of course the 30 series is astronomical. Nothing is available that I'm willing to pay.

    I bought my 1060 3GB during the inflated prices
    Got it for £200 and the 6GB were £340
    My GPU still works good, wish these cards came out earlier but I don't need an upgrade

      @@DefensiveLimestone ah I get that. There wasn't much choice for me at the time, and the 3GB wasn't too bad compared to the 6GB
      I would love to upgrade, but for the time being my 1060 works fine on all the games I play everyday

      Cookie Rager it’s that urge you get and it’s like you just get a compulsion to upgrade but then you realize you have enough power
      Preferably for me when I saw this generation it was too expensive considering Last generation we got a 2060 which was equivalent to a 980 for only $250 now we’re getting the same equivalency except for 350 which is not worth it so I’ll wait another generation

      T S I got the 1060 6gb as well around last July, thank god I got the 6gb because now if you look at recent testing the cut in VRAM is really chopping and taking a toll on the frame rate to the point that it isn’t a 1060

    Purchasing options right now:
    RX 570 unmatched value at 1080p;
    RTX 2060 - it's unmatched value at 1440p - you get 1070ti performance and RTX cores;
    RTX 2080 - if you are at 4K and have money to burn for days, you get the best card in the consumer stack.
    (And before someone complains RTX 2080ti is the Titan of Turing and is not in the consumer stack with that crazy price it has.)

      RTX is useless right now, especially at 2060 performance levels. The Vega 56 is better value right now.

      @Merkur Stern Vega 56 goes for $300 now (www.amazon.com/dp/B07BRCZG3M/?tag=pcpapi-20). RTX 2060 is usually $350 ± $10. (www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1456229-REG/msi_g2060v6c_geforce_rtx_2060_ventus.html). Both cards are similar in performance. If you want to get technical, UserBenchmark rates the Vega 56 a bit higher than the RTX 2060 (gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2060-6GB-vs-AMD-RX-Vega-56/4034vs3938). However, games do sometimes prefer Nvidia cards. If you really want to put those RT cores to use, get a better card such as the RTX 2070.
      Edit: How the hell do you use the @ symbol?

      When gaming at 4K Radeon 7 is the better graphics card . You get more use out of 16 gigs of RAM at 4K then you will with Ray tracing .

    So a 1060 6g should've actually been called a 1060 ti. Also I'm about to upgrade from a 2g msi 960 from 2015 to a used 6g gigabyte 1060 that costs 120 euro (There are cheaper but this one supposedly wasnt used for cryptomining and it's in good condition and is a 6 gig). Wish me luck. I wish I got a msi one since theyre sexy af but oh well. A 960 2g goes for around 50 euro here so I guess I'll try to sell it to make some money back.
