As active duty US NAVY at the time, I was stationed at Subic Bay US NAVAL STATION (Naval Air Station Cubi Point, at the Bataan province side of the base) during the eruption. I was there from 1990 until the bases eventually closed down in late 1992. It was a natural event to remember for the rest of my life, 18 hours of pure darkness and chaos all around. Sometime after I retire again for the second time, I would love to visit and make a pilgrimage in honor of my fallen comrade who was the only active duty casualty during the disaster. May he rest in peace.
I was on the USS Cape Cod AD43 during the Pinatubo eruption. We pulled into port.. covered in ash. We evacuated alot of depends and took them to Hawaii! Now I live in Angeles city.
Kummander Daot bring us the best National Geo quality adventures around the Philippines 🎉 The world temperature went down by 0.5c due to ash in the atmosphere!
I can still remember you squat sitting outside Kulas' gate with a failing bangus farm and here you are making grade A videos of Philippine travel vlogs. IMO you are on top of the food chain. I'm always looking forward when your new video comes out.
I was there during the eruption of Pinatubo. I was a freshman in hs and my dad was in the Air Force. Haven’t been to Pinatubo yet, but I definitely want to go. Great video Kumander!
I remember those bangus, crab and tilapia days from Kulas' vlogs. Now look at where you are now: making gems that are worth watching over and over again.

Something about that narrow passage leading to the cratter seems familiar. Reminds me of another time, another place, and something about a villainous bridge troll and having to answer three ridiculous questions correctly to pass through, or else.. Boom! You end up in the creator. BTW, I love those trucks.
I was stationed at Clark AFB in the early 80's prior to the eruption. My friend and I used to ride the narrow walking paths on our dirt motorcycles. The place is totally different now, of course. Thank you.
Wow! This is one of the places in the country I would love to visit. I lived in Pangasinan back in 1991 when it erupted. It was raining ash, snowfall probably looked the same (which we do not have in PH). Lahar then plagued the region for months to come. Seeing it beautiful today is amazing. Layoa na nimo naabtan oi, amping kanunay KD!

What an adventure komander. I was born in Angeles city but, never had the chance to go Mount Pinatubo. When I was a teenager, we use to ride our dirt bike to that area but never did we know that is a volcano. Not after it erupted and the US Airforce left due to the destructions it caused. Maybe when I go back to PI I will try to go there. Thanks for sharing your adventures. San Diego, CA.
Always my favorite part of your vlog are your drone shots. What a beautiful and breathtaking view of the crater lake and the surrounding landscape. The whole vlog is awesome. Such an exciting adventure traveling to the volcano. Surprised to see a lot of people visiting the volcano. Good for tourism. Thanks again for taking us with you on this wonderful trip. Always watching from Arizona USA and not skipping ads to support you.
Wow ! I swum in the crater yr 2003.. and we walked from capas and then days , there is no 4x4. Literally , we hike and pitch out tent there and stay for over night close to the crater . Amazing experienced. Don’t know the rules now ..loved your videos 😊
My son and I done a quad bike ride just outside of angeles, near clark airbase in 2018, up the laha track, same it started to rain and we had to get out quickly, but we went back 2 days later and spent 45 minutes having a awesome and amazing ride 👍🇦🇺
KD, this is nothing Short of amazing vlog about Mt. Pinatubo!!! Your video is just incredible, thank you for what you do, you are great at it, photography and narration is excellent. Sometime, I will watch how you started your fish pond and get more information about it. But right now I am enjoying this video, safe travel Anselm!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎⭐️⭐️⭐️👏
9:14 - I thought that's coffee! 😁☕ I'm from Manila but I remember looking out my window the morning after Pinatubo erupted and wondering why the trees looked like it has snowed on them. ⁉ It was only later on that I found out it's volcanic ash.
I remember the time Pinatubo erupted. I was in grade 5 living in balibago angeles city. Seeing the mushroom cloud as it erupted, experienced earthquakes every minute, ash and rocks falls, total darkness.
It was interesting to see how things have changed. I worked at the US Embassy from 1983-87 and 1990 to 1995 making regular trips to Clark and Subic to shop. I had vacationed on Fortune Island at Subic just two weeks before the eruption. I spent a good bit of time up at Subic and Cubi Pt. during the closing of bases there salvaging equipment and supplies to use at our printing center. I have a collection of photos from Clark AFB showing the destruction. Clark AFB was inundated by lahar flowing down the Socobia and evacuated on 24 hours notice with all the personnel evacuated to Subic. It was inundated by 3-4 feet of volcanic ash. Even in Manila was covered with about 5mm of ash. It looked like it was snowing. I had a Mitsubishi Pajero and to deal with the dust equipped it with optional a centrifugal dust separator I ordered from Mitsubishi in Japan. Installed before the air cleaner it spun the incoming air in a small drum and the dust would drop out into a container at the bottom. You might consider adding one to your SUV if not already equipped with one to deal with dusty environments.
MT Pinatubo created a lot of desert in Zambales. Crow valley and Camp o Donnell the last destination of the death march. Its hard to survive in Mt Pinatubo when it rains.

The grey sand is called "white sand" as when it is dry it turns white because of the pummice. We use it for all the concrete production in the Luzon area. Been in Angeles 1 year now working so must get round to visiting Mount Pinatubo. Can see it from my office.
@@KumanderDaot as it is without processing conforms to the DPWH requirements, which most projects work to. Best sand there is here for concrete production.
Snippet: Keep in mind the edge of the mountains or the cleft is not solid rock but a sandstone, which can easily collapse with strong erosion from salt water, strong winds and torrential rain-pours, overtime, but the big sky above and the big ocean below it -- are the most sought after and costly spot where to build a dreamy home. Any home would be safe enough from vicious hurricanes and frequent inland flooding. I hope you are wearing hiking footwear -- walking in those rugged trenches and Alps. Nice find, general. be blessed. may2024
I was nine years old out on a field trip with the rest of the people that attended to my school. (Benictican elementary school). I noticed the sky being split from bright daylight to twilight looking Time straight down the middle of the sky behind us as the chaperones and bus driver continued to take us further away from our civilization to our field trip destination. I was the first one to notice the failure in the sky and was the first one to question, what was this that I’m seeing in the sky? My friends became alert to what I was seeing and I’ll begin to wonder even the chaperone was puzzled. After a few minutes, passed by the chaperone told us it was a different type of rainbow as we continued to our field trip destination. I remember playing when we got to the field trip destination We was in great danger and didn’t even know it. As we were at our field trip destination, and begin playing and running around and stuff. It started raining in which we were hoping it wasn’t enough reason to shut the field trip down. So while contemplating on shutting the field trip down or not some of us started noticing that the raindrops were kind of muddy. It was then that it picked up speed and we started evacuating the place we were at on our field trip. Now that we were all on the buses, we started to head back to our school. Those muddy raindrops became extremely heavy. The sky in the middle of the day became extremely dark. While out here traveling back from in the middle of who knows what the path back home became covered in rain and Sulphur ashes the windows on the bus became so muddy. It was like trying to look through a wall the kids on the bus were sticking their heads out the windows just to help the bus driver know what to do. Visibility was gone. It took us forever and we did not get to make it back to our school but we’re able to make it to George Dewey high school as our parents were there waiting on our return. It was as if we didn’t make it there until the middle of the night I’m hoping that somebody else can fill-in right here for me with the right time of day it was that we made it back but it was super dark and I was a child so I really don’t have an accurate sense of timeframe that we really made it back. All I know it was dark. All of us that were there felt at least 200 trimmers. All of us are lucky that have survived this natural disaster and due to mother nature. Think about it. When we finally received sunlight back, the ground was covered with 3 to 4 feet of ashes so if it wasn’t for the typhoon that took place (mother nature) The ashes, the sulfur ashes would have been dry and multiple times three and 4 feet high. I’m thankful every day for the soldiers who made it to our rescue and believe it or not I’m thankful for the typhoon that took place as well. If anybody attended Benictican at that time, I would definitely like for us to come together and write us a novelty of the tragedy we faced. We almost didn’t make it back you know or have you forgot. We stayed on Eazy Street running parallel of Echo Street. My name is Arthur Chester Perry Jr I now stay in Columbia, South Carolina age 43. Gotta love some ARB air lockers. Not sure what American vehicles can still use those. Jeep I think .
They use ARB in the states for installing a front locker on our Toyota 4Runners. Lots of other vehicles I think too, they are very popular here.
@@jsully4064 They were popular in USA too. Until all the vehicles went to independent front suspension and no more solid front axles.
