Seeing Mount Pinatubo in your video made me say “Hello old friend.” I was a 26-year old Navy journalist stationed at Subic Bay during the eruption all those years ago. I arrived in the Philippines in December of 1990. Seven months later, the volcano erupted. I was working for FEN (Far East Network) at Subic as a television reporter and radio DJ. I stayed in the Philippines until the US troop pullout was complete. I did a lot of coverage of the volcano both before and after the eruption. I even flew over the volcano on helicopters on two occasions with a big video camera strapped to me, hanging out of the side of the helicopter. Being there on the ground when it erupted was a nightmarish experience. During the darkness of the eruption, it made me wonder if we would all survive. It’s not every day that you go through such a cataclysmic event. That big blue lake was a small blue lake the last time I flew over. The landscape, from miles around the volcano, looked like the landscape of Mars. It is nice seeing all the vegetation growing. Thanks for the video of Mount Pinatubo. It brought back a lot of memories.
Years ago I was at Walter Reed, I was talking to a retired Air Force security guy, they secured the gates and were the last American personnel to leave Clark AB. They hiked all the way to Subic, interestingly he said, behind them were hundreds of locals following them, understandably, he said, everything was just chaotic. When they stopped to rest and eat, everyone was just staring at them....They ended up sharing whatever provisions they had (he got emotional at this time) I was born and grew up in Baguio, I miss Camp John Hay, I was in the Army back in the mid 80's, used to get MAC flights to Clark and hop on a Phil Rabbit or Victory liner bus to my parents home in Baguio. Good times!
What an EPIC day, I honestly can't tell you. I think I have talked about this at least once a day since doing it haha! Please hit subscribe if you enjoyed the video. 📣 We now have Facebook!!! Were it not for the fact that it is just on a dormant state, that place looks so peaceful and quiet. Perfect for reflection and quiet meditation. The Instagram view is just a bonus. Well worth the hike.
I was a college student in Manila when Mt. Pinatubo erupted. Day literally turned into night and we thought it was snowing but it turned out to be ashfall. It was one of the most scariest moments for me and a lot of Filipinos. I'm just in awe of how something so terrifying years ago turned out to be something so magnificent today. God is good! Enjoy your tour of Northern Luzon. Guess we'll see you in Banawe, Sagada, Baguio, or Vigan next??
Wow, how time swiftly flew. I'm turning 40 next year and I was only 6 when the volcano erupted. I was so mad at my classmate behind me because I thought he was pushing my desk/chair. It was Language quiz when the big earth tremors came, so the only thing I got to bring home with me after all the panic was my jumbo pencil. Life as a student had been disrupted shortly after and we had to contend esp. with the frequent aftershocks, some feeble, some strong. I vividly recall the suffocating sulfur air and the rain of ash and rocks---which I collected happily because I thought the crystals in it were diamonds but in fact were only phenocrysts. Anyway, thank you for bringing to fore childhood memories. It was a devastating time, but we did not feel hopeless due to resilience. Thank you for taking us all with you on your Pinatubo adventure. Take care and enjoy as you explore more of the country.
Yes I'm 43 now I don't even remember that time when it erupted. Our grandma's home in Bacolor was submerged in Ashfall and ashes everywhere in our house and street in Laguna.
Im at my 41 now. I remember in Palawan it was morning after the night of its eruption, everything around our house filled with ashfalls. Banana leaves fall off and carabaos cannot eat grass all the vegetation were severely destroyed.
17:45 The breathtaking scenery is pure poetry. Like what your tongues drip - pure woven words transforming your inspiration and feelings into sheer beauty of poetry. Abby is a joy of eloquence, and Gaz, a giant but of gentle soul and speech. Stay safe and healthy both of you, as you spend your physicality in exploring places and people. ❤❤❤
For a change, instead of Siargao, Palawan, Boracay, they went to Pinatubo,I remember two foreign vloggers making a camp in Pinatubo, that was like several years ago. Thank you for visiting Pinatubo and your amazing guys, God bless
In Ilocos Norte there is a beautiful beaches with white sand same as boracay.in Ilocos Sur we have Santorini looks like.a native hotel made of bamboo, wooden materials.hope you will check northern part of Luzon specially Batanes
Filipino watching from Los Angeles, CA. Wow! You guys been around more than any bloggers I've seen here. You guys are awesome and keep doing what you do. Mt Pinatubo is very beautiful! These guys deserves more subscribers. Subscriber kababayan, these two really deserves it.
Very few vloggers feature that crater lake, seems to me they're missing out on a sight to behold. Was that water in the later turqoise too like the oceans in the Philippines? The color was a beautiful hue. You two are just all over that beautiful country 🏞👍👫
I'm so glad that you guys visited the North of the Philippines.. its probably the most underrated. I have been to Mt. Pinatubo too in 2013. That time we were able to swim at the crater lake.
Now that the cold season begins, it is the best time to go to the North (mountain province). You will experience unique culture and see stunning mountain view.
You guys are awesome👍That Mt. Pinatubo is just Majestic. You took some Filipinos like me who never been to that historic volcano 🌋. Thanks for showing Philippines to the world 🌎. Watching from SF CA 🇺🇲. 🫶🇵🇭.
What a epic experience that must have been. I have family living in Manila and Baguio and they went through the eruption with the amount of ash in the air and all. I was visiting from the US a few years after it happened taking the bus from Manila to Baguio driving through the ash and new landscape caused by the eruption was an experience to itself. Definitely a lifetime memory.
Thats definitely a great experience. I was young when it erupted. And literally you will see ashes everywhere in the Philippines specifically and some even reached other countries. Now the volcano is sleep again and witnessing its majestic calmness is magical.
Hi. You guys got lucky to have the location by yourself there. This is not the season for camping or travels here in the Philippines, as it is the rainy season already. Even local do not do travels at this season. My. Pinatubo is really spectacular and one of its kind here in the Philippines. Enjoy and stay safe always, Abby and Gas!. 🙌🙌💕💕
Thirty-two years ago, that wasteland of ash, rocks, and lahar that you passed through aboard the 4x4 was the same debris the volcano ejected. That lush vegetation showed how Nature reclaimed and regenerated the landscape.
Wow guys, what an epic awesome Trek. I remember in 2006 visiting my father-in-law‘s family in Pampanga driving by and Ash still on the edges of the main road, that was 15 years after the eruption! My wife and I will be moving to the Bataan Luzon area in about a year and a half, and that will definitely be on my bucket list! Amazing, great job! And Cheers from New England USA
THAT was so unexpectedly epic, oh wow! Would love to do the same trek in the future. Hope these 40+ yr-old legs could still keep up. Thanks guys, immensely enjoyable episode, as always. ❤
I'm glad you guys finally made it there. I totally forgot about the military base that might scare off tourists. There is so many hidden gems there including Mapanuepe Lake under that lake used to be a town. There is so many places to see in the Philippines but the problem is its too remote to visit. Abra and Nueva Viscaya is also a hidden gem lots of hiking trails.
An exciting experience indeed. The trek towards Mt. Pinatubo is sheer adventure. Nothing fancy but it is all worth it, especially to people from older-age categories, such as myself. The tourism sector may have to make the trek more exciting by giving visitors a guided tour of the crater lake itself - just like the one in Hawaii where tourists come near the lake of lava and steam.😀😀
Omg I would have loved that! What was interesting was when we were near the volcano something actually interfered with our wireless microphones and when we flew our drone we lost signal for quite a while. The whole thing is so creepy 🤯
I was stationed at Clark AB at the time of the eruption and simultaneous typhoon. I will never forget the destruction caused by those events. I appreciate the glimpse this video provides of the crater and surrounding area.
The shot in the crater lake was magnificent. The wind and the grass moving is so peaceful to watch you can feel the peaceful vibe in there its like a dream. And baby girl i like listening to your voice its like listening to a National geographic documentary ever think of becoming a journalist?
In the mid-90's, on a flight from Manila to Baguio, I asked the flight attendant if we could see Mt. Pinatubo. She talked to the Captain and shortly thereafter on the intercom, the captain announced he will divert his flight path a bit so we could all get a glimpse of the volcano. We all got to see it from a distance in the air! That was the last time I saw it. Even in faraway Benguet province, during the eruption, there was fine ash and the smell of sulfur in the air.
Done this before too. Really worth it! I honestly enjoyed the hike, but not so much the bumpy & dusty 4x4 ride. Its a shame that they dont allow hikers to descend to the beach anymore. But how awesome it is that you have the whole place to yourselves !
Thats is epic! You two are braved enough to do it. & the view from volcano itself was amazing!your journey on that place are beyond magical. Stay blessed & safe from ireland.
Way back,, I remember, zambales is our neighbor province , Pinatubo , when it explode , in everyday we saw , like a big smoke of cauliflower in up and in everynight you will see in up heaven like a fireworks😊
Epic Adventure! It's nice to see you guys going to different & amazing places and doesn't feel rushed on your tour of the Philippines. Keep going and also 10k subs is in the horizon! Let's go!! Love the Epic views & narration too.
I admire your tenacity and courage to experience the magical natural beauty of Phils. Mount Pinatubo. The tranquility of the surroundings upon reaching the crater is unimaginable.
Really appreciate that you guys look into history and how the volcano came into fame 😊❤I'm moved by your account of this hike and feel even more proud of my country 😊🙏 thank you guys.

good thing you have trekked Pinatubo. I have swam in its crater when we filmed a group of media people some years ago. the water have different temperatures from the water surface down to the earth below it. kinda cool swimming on the crater lake! finally subbed to your channel. all the best to your travels in 'Pinas!
My home is close 2hr drive from there .. ironically I haven't seen that place close in person hahah Good Job on filming our place. I wish more tourists would explore Mt. Pinatubo
hi it's actually a mountain of ashes and sand. there were community houses there being buried. the car that you saw was just came out due to rains and floodings for the past decades
Hi Abby and Gaz. It's great to know that you're having a great time here. I would like to suggest to you to go to Lake Mapanuepe since you're already there at Zambales.
I remember coming home from overseas the following day of eruption. While on the night trip bus from Manila going to Ilocos Province, I saw people on the highway walking like zombies with ashes all over their faces and bodies as ashfall still going on.
oh wow what an amasing adventure and the breathtaking scenery! lucky you to experience an erupted volcanoes would love to do that given a chance. informative and great video.
Ive seen a lot of vloggers who went to pinatubo but only upto the rocky terrain n had fun satnding up n being rocked so hard by the jeep 🤣. I didnt know that if u walked further, there will be a magical untouch paradise. Breathtaking!
I remember very well when it erupted. I was in college and suddenly the ash fell in metro Manila. Like snow! It was a pretty huge moment. The ash travelled all over Asia. Peope didn’t even know that mountain is a volcano!
June 15, 1991, it was an unusual Saturday. I was in Manila on my way home at past 12 noon and I kept getting something in my eyes not knowing it was ash from Pinatubo. By 3pm it looked like dusk and there ashes on the leaves of plants. Went out on a date, coming back home to a different landscape, Manila a good more than 100kms away was covered in ash.
Spectacular❤❤❤ at 4:15 i heard that the land you were crossing those streams are 5 different towns before. Some of them died and many of them are native tribes.
You should go to to Bicol. Mount Mayon is currently eurpting and during night you will see the lava flows on its creater. Not to mention Mt. Mayon is famous on its perfect cone shape volcano

It was beautiful turquoise water as per usual! The Philippines has no other colored water 😍
The water is high sulfur content its not blue its green and very dangerous to go into , unless you want to glow in the dark at nighttime.

I was 6 years old when Mt Pinatubo erupted and i remember it was the most grayest day of my life. Literally everything was gray from the volcanic ash. Our green house, our black dog, our red car, all of our neighbors houses everything was gray.
Wow that sounds awful 😞
Wow; you are right. What a stunning view!
Wow! Youre exactly on the top of a volcano. You are actually looking at the crater or mouth of a volcano.
Excellent vlog guys- #volcano looked rugged with a very fast walking 🚶 guide thru #rapids and rocks 🪨 etc
Your almost there, a few hours drive to the eight wonder of the world-the Rice Terraces of Banaue and Batad.

That's is a magnificent view,Wow😮
hi, you both are courageous at least you experienced to see the crater lake, be careful
Abby and Gaz -- That was breathtaking. Everything. The ride, the hike, the crater. We humans are nothing but a comma in the sentence of time.
Wow what a phrase, I love that! And thank you ☺️

I remember very well when it erupted. I was in college and suddenly the ash fell in metro Manila. Like snow! It was a pretty huge moment. The ash travelled all over Asia. Peope didn’t even know that mountain is a volcano!
Wow that’s absolutely crazy and terrifying 😞
Wow.. that gorgeous
Unbelievable Beauty!
Indeed 😍😍😍
June 15, 1991, it was an unusual Saturday. I was in Manila on my way home at past 12 noon and I kept getting something in my eyes not knowing it was ash from Pinatubo. By 3pm it looked like dusk and there ashes on the leaves of plants. Went out on a date, coming back home to a different landscape, Manila a good more than 100kms away was covered in ash.
Wow, adventure of a lifetime. Enjoy 🎉😊
Thank you ☺️
