Philippines CHEAPEST Fish In Luzon's Most REMOTE Island (Calayan, Babuyan Islands)

The Babuyan Islands are maybe Luzon's most remote islands. Accessible only by a 6 hour boat ride from the northernmost tip of mainland Luzon, they are cut off from the rest of the country any time winds tip over 25kph; the ocean is exposed and open on both the Pacific and West Philippine Sea side and the waves would be impossible even for the most skilled navigator.
But this far away, dramatic landscapes meet abundant fish and lobster, and I really wanted to see how people thrive in such places.
From Claveria, Cagayan, we took the lampetaw (after a 3 day weather delay, of course) to Calayan, the administrative centre of these islands (Calayan is the name of the municipality, but of course the island group Babuyan is better known).
Then we started to see Calayan's dramatic landscapes unfold... Rainforest falls into the ocean, impressive rock formations like the Lussock Cave, and we tried and failed at spearfishing (it was midday... that's never going to work out!)
After a trip back where the waves were coming into the boat (sorry, electronics), we visited Nagudungan Hill - where we can really see the power of nature. The hills are grassy moorland, devoid of trees, where only carabaos and goats dare thrive.
Beside it is Sibang Cove, rugged beauty hidden behind the steep cliffs that protect the rest of the island from the constant battering that this eastern coast receives from the Pacific.
Fishing, salt-making, dried seaweed patties... they're all aspects of life here - not to forget the humble kuliglig, which many farmers still rely on!
And to top it all off, we were stranded for an extra day because the boat didn't run. Oops!
