Bears are bigger, but cats are much stronger for their weight. Bears are also lazy fighters; way too slow to hang with any big cat.

the bear was also like oh hell nah as he wanted nothing to do with the mountain lion as well at first. This is normal behavior for both animals, if there is no need for a confrontation then they both want to avoid it. People think the mountain Lion is scared, the bear knows very well the mountain lion is able to injure him enough as to where he will not be able to hunt and die of starvation. No wild animals are "afraid" of each other. They fight when they must and they avoid confrontation unless it is necessary. The bear jogged over slowly as this is his territory (they are territorial for food and survive this way, mountain lions are not) as a peaceful message saying this is my territory. This is how most wild encounters between different species goes. The only way this would have had a chance to be a fight is if the mountain lion had cubs an the bear saw them. The mountain lion would have fought and not run off.

Honestly I'm glad this was what I thought it was going to be. It was not a fight, which was what I expected. People are always wondering which of these animals would win in a fight...but I have always doubted whether you would ever actually see it. Not surprising that one of them ran away. The title is slightly misleading though.

It looks like the bear has been chasing that mountain lion for a while on a long steady chase. The Mountain lion laid down to mentally challenge the bear and try to make him give up. Saying, " How will you every catch me when I can lie down and rest" You can see the bear get discouraged looking around but then his hard head mentality tells him to keep the slow chase on. Great shot!
Rarely are lions seen in the open in the daytime, then in the same frame with a grizzly. Great luck!

There is no mention of fight in the title, and we see what's described in the title. I don't understand all these dislikes. This encounter is not so usual and nicely filmed.

Its interesting that with bears when they are stalking they are like hey im just minding my own business in a none threatening way so they can close the ground.
You can see how both were trying to avoid injury via intimidation.
The cougar lying down in front of the bear was him basically saying “I’m not scared of you.”
But the bear called his bluff and charged, and the cat obviously didn’t wanna fight so he retreated.
No the cougar literally reacted how a human would. Avoiding the bear, when its brown lay down.

Not really. However, it is crazy to see both these animals at the same time .
I was expecting the bear to do a freestyle handstand, and then pick up a pair of maracas and sing the intro to a random Elton John song. All while the mountain lion pops his popcorn on a survival kit while juggling bananas, coconuts and burning machetes. But oh well. This wasn't that bad either. They had a really intense stare down there between each other for two seconds. It's the build up and the subtleness that gets me.

Ok so maybe the title is a bit of an exaggeration, depending on what your expectations are. But it's hilarious how so many on here are acting like it's pretty much no big deal and happens all the time 🙄. Even though these two apex predators didn't throw down, they were indeed interacting. Plus it could have come to blows if the cat didn't walk away. Wise decision on its part imo. That all made this rare occurrence fascinating to see. For me anyway.

Grizzly prolly felt like a mosquito bite
I had an encounter with lion last week.. Was watching a bull moose feed and saw mountain lion going towards the moose then it saw me and disappeared.. I was so scared bout three miles into hike.. I ran my ass off for a good mile..

That's crazy! It's one thing to see a mountain lion put a brown bear in a full nelson, but it's quite another thing near the end when the bear jumps up on the turnbuckle and returns the favor with a piledriver! Un-believable!

They were both heading toward... YOU! Each one was trying to get there first. If I saw two big animals like that coming in my direction I don't care how much telescope my camera has I would get myself somewhere safe! I wouldn't sit there watching them come toward me smelling my trail or smelling me in the air. Scary!!
