For me this is the only film in the conjuring film series that genuinely unsettled me both in cinema as well as after watching it. It deserves its status as a modern horror classic, its a shame that the sequels never matched up to the original.
Agreed, wholeheartedly. The first Conjuring was frighteningly, deeply, upsetting, especially in the theater. Only have watched it a handful of times since. The rest of the series/spinoffs have their moments, absolutely, but nothing quite compares.
The Perron sisters actually wrote a book about their experiences, in reality it took over 2 decades and the Warren's didn't do much. Also the story of Bethsheba is so dramatized and false that unfortunately her grave site has been vandalized repeatedly since the movies release.
I just want to point out that James Wan only directs the first two of his horror films, like The Conjuring, Insidious, and Annabelle. The other sequel’s and prequel‘s are directed by other people and he just acts as a producer.
I feel James is PERFECT at creating and making fantastic horror films, but the issue is (and it's not really his fault) he directrs and creates one or two of them and then lets others and studios drive the franchises insane and through so many loops, both good, bad, and terrible. Although I won't and can't deny that the films James are behind are fucking fantastic. The Conjuring and Insidious are AMAZING!! I still have to watch Saw

The women on top of the wardrobe made my date (at the time) spill Reese’s pieces in the theatre and we were in the nosebleed and they scattered down every row loud af. It made light of the horror, every time I see this movie I think about that lol!

The franchise won't go away. Once they finally dried up all they get through the sequels they'll make a reboot or a remake and start it all over again. Considering the naming scheme of horror remakes is to just add, or remove, "the" in the title it'll probably called The The Conjuring. Or just Conjuring.

Conjuring was super scary. This is unrelated but if you want another scary movie to watch I recommend Ring (1998, Japanese version) at night alone. I was scared for a whole week.

My dad watched the first few minutes and couldn’t handle it. I now fall asleep to this movie when it’s on but I always wake up during the same scene when the mom is in the chair screaming. I find that weird. On another note please do the other movies in this series including La Lerona.
I found this movie so boring and I don’t get why people find it scary or anything that is different from every other boring formulaic ghost movie. The Others is an example of a ghost story that at least thwarted expectations. Predictability is a suspense killer.
I really love the Conjuring films but i wish they would go more into the backstory of the artefacts they keep in their special room instead of producing stuff like "The Nun" which was really disappointing.
The original Annabelle doll is a raggedy and doll and she came with a raggedy Andy doll way back in the late 40s and 50s and 60s and I've seen this doll in a documentary it's scary enough
You should try watching dabbe the possession if you like the conjuring but has gore that makes you want to puke. Its really atmospheric and gives a feel that anything you do to save yourself is useless and we will die ( it was one hell of a rollercoaster ride ) . I recommended watching it alone in the dark ( works better for me that way )

I live a couple miles from the house. My father and aunts were friends with the family as kids. My cousin was babysat in the house also. My father calls bs, my aunts have some stories, but my cousin refuses to talk about the house.
