Part of me always thought the reason the traveling merchant tells you she smuggled the goods out of the Grotoro Empire is to make the items seem more exotic than they really are(she's lying) or it could have been meant for when she has out of season items(like the red cabbage) and the growing season in Grotoro is different than Ferngil similar to how seasons are the opposite in the southern hemisphere as compared to the north. Probably a little of both.
@@digifreak90 That's a good thought. Perhaps the reason you can't turn sweet gem berries into wine or jelly is that due to the war there is an embargo on finished goods made out of sweet gem berries. Growing and selling fresh berries isn't illegal but the Ferngil government doesn't allow processed products out of fear they were smuggled in from Gotoro.
I’ve been saying forever that Emily, the woman who speaks with animals, can literally drag you into her dreams when you walk into her house fully awake in the middle of the day, creates magic images as she dances, has blue hair, and her sister questions whether she’s ever related to her is the wizard’s child. Thank you for reading the world’s longest run on sentence 😂
Emily has some unexplained connections to mermaids and Stardrops. Which explains all the psychedelic magic she can do. I noticed she's also the only character who comments on the *Mermaid's Pendant* and acknowledges rain spirits (The Old Mariner and the Ginger Island mermaid only show up during rainy days).
The travelling merchant, she could be a native to the Ferngil republic, just because she smuggled stuff from Gotoro it doesn't mean she's a Gotoro native. Interesting theory though, I hope the future updates would unlock places in Gotoro Empire.

@@Trollgefecht My grandfather witnessed a nuclear bomb test in the pacific. He told me it rained like crazy right after. It's called black rain, ash and radioactive particles seed the clouds and moisture in the air.
So far we've only seen positive effects from green rain on plant growth and there seem to be no negative effect except losing TV signal. The governor tells Lewis that it's not harmful, and the wizard says the same. Demetrius collects a sample and doesn't say anything the next day. I'm pretty sure it's not a weapon. If it is not related to magic, the mostly scientific explanation would be some eutrophic water or mossy water that was picked up by a tornado far away.
I really love your theories!! But Kent, being the paranoid ex-soldier with PTSD that he is, wouldn't he have something to say about Jodi being besties with someone who looks like they came from the enemy country?
@@amori9389 I think he has a lot of guilt about "leaving his family behind" and would probably be happy that Jodi had someone. He also mentions how he lost so many friends in the war. Maybe his perspective on friendships is a little different
Oh certainly interesting with the connection of Caroline. Certainly seems an interesting connection. Maybe the travelling merchant simply said that to hype up the products they sell. Add some mystery. Then again they do sell the Rare Seed and the Coffee bean that can only otherwise be found by dust spirits. A mythical monster in the mines. Maybe the Rare Seed and Coffee beans are home in the Empire. As for Caroline. Maybe when she was young. Could have been before the war. She could have been part of some "New Age" group that travelled around and maybe she escaped the country before the War started. Like we do see some interest in some esoteric things when we consider visits to a wizard and her whole tea cutscene (We do see some sort of city in the background). Though maybe she decided to grow out of that aspect after settling down more and taking care of her child. Also would be interesting to see how she encountered pierre first. We know he used to be a boxer. Though maybe not as high earning. Both coming to the big city cause they got dreams. Dreams of being a boxer and dreams of freedom. They met and maybe thanks to some trouble or such decided to settle in a small town.
@@sodorart Maybe the store was owned by pierres family. Seeing how in small town business at times tend to be. Maybe he didnt want to inherit it first and went to the big city for his dream as boxing champion. Met Caroline. The career maybe was not working out and maybe his parents fell ill. Seeing as they may be older or the age range of Evelyn and George. So he took over the store. Maybe its a reason he does his best to turn a profit. Its a memory of his parents he doesnt want to just go down.
My personal theory is that Caroline is the child of the Travelling Merchant and Wizard (both of which having the capability to travel around and could've been a means of getting out of the empire). The Wizard isn't aware that Caroline is his daughter (as he only speculates that one of the villagers is his offspring) though would have gotten a suspicion of it from interacting with her during her secret walks and how Abigail's hair's purple (she states that she stopped applying dye but it's remained purple entirely) like his.

Ooh that is super interesting!!
It could also be possible that the Rare Seed/Sweet Gem Berry is native to the Gotoro Empire, as it can only be purchased from the Travelling Merchant.

Yeah I seriously dont buy that Abigail is the Wizard's daughter, I think it's either Emily, as you said, or maybe even the Traveling Merchant

She may dye her hair to make smuggling easier - especially if the Gotoreans run to green hair.
Finnaly someone actually covers the war. I actually think the green rain is apart the war lore lol.
