This is a huge part of being a working artist that I don't hear people talking about often. It's so easy to get so busy with work that you run out of time to actually go be an artist. As pandemic restrictions have been lifting, I've been so busy with traveling and doing gigs that I've barely had any time to work on my own stuff, so now I'm looking at ways to carve out some chunks of time in my schedule to make sure it's getting done. At the end of the day, these personal projects often end up being the most important even if they don't pay.

Ah yes Pete, it does help! Not all of us have the opportunity to shoot photos & videos for a living but it’s more of a case of: go to work, make the boss happy, complete your task.. and long the lines the need of spending some time with the creative side of yourself suddenly doesn’t seem that important. However, all this time the creative side has been the main fuel motivating and encouraging us to try new things in life.
Hangout with your creative self, fuel it up with ideas!

My rule for myself is to always have one passion project in some stage of production at all times - doesn't matter what stage - pre-production (even just brainstorming) all the way through to editing/completion. Just always have something going. Those projects have been the most rewarding and ironically, open up the most doors. Good work, Pete!

Only two TH-camrs I learned from when it comes to make videos. Casey & Peter. I am no where close to their master pieces when it comes to work they put in. One of the important lessons that I have learned from both is this. Do one for you. Once we don’t balance that “gym time” and building a craft for others, we get burned out.
There is really no one way to make that balance in our lives but for sure that we will need to recharge by filling our tanks as well.
Thank you for sharing this and can’t wait to see the documentary.

You always get me to feel better after a rough day with your happy kind. You inspire me to do so much more and challenge myself. I wish I could create such awesome story telling videos and awesome photos like you and I aspire to get there some day.
Keep up the great work and greetings from Germany ❤

I really appreciated this video, it really has me inspired. Though my "9-5 job" (which can often be more like 9A-10P) is technically a creative job, and I love it - I also have to deal with being part of a company, with many stakeholders, dealing with all the BS that just comes standard with having a job. And as a creative, it can sometimes feel stifling - which is why I started my youtube channel last year. It's something that is 100% completely my own, to flex my creative chops, learn new things, and just "create" without any barriers. It's been a minute since I've really done anything with it, but hoping to dive back in the second half of this year to continue growing.
    Thanks Pete!

Needed this one man, appreciate it! So easy to lose that yearning to create when it is just for work. Gotta do some stuff for ourselves to get that drive back!

    Truly great advice.
Too long endlessly churning and burning for others, I forgot myself as well.
Just saw this today and it couldn't have come at a better time.
Now doing a passion project documentary myself.
Toning up the shooting and editing skills, and continuing to learn new stuff, always.
    That's where it's at.
And I get inspired by you and your channel.
Thanks for sharing your tid bits over the years.
Long time lisnah, first time cwalluh.
    Keep crushing.
