Say Yes To The Dress Bridesmaids is usually a disaster. And these episodes are no different from the rest. From hideous color combinations like Raspberry & Key Lime to Royal Blue, Platinum, and Yellow, we're gonna need to do an eye test for both brides. I don't know if it was a tanning-heavy time/region, but with that first bridal party, all I could focus on was how crispy they looked. I wanted them to find aloe vera, not dresses.

As someone from Texas, it was 100% a tanning-heavy time/region. Even now I’m surprised how many people tan. I tanned from 16-21 or 22 and I am full of regret 😂
I think this was filmed in 2011, so yeah... still a lot of tanning back then, especially in the South. It definitely shows!

Blue and gold were my high school colors so to see them as a wedding color scheme just seem like a bride using a sports team's colors to get her fiance interested in the wedding planning.
My exact feels. If I see blue and gold I either get war flashbacks to HS or I think of Golden State Warriors or UCLA 🤣🤣🤣
The only way I could see that working is if a bride uses royal blue and metallic gold. Bright gold looks too sporty instead of bridal. Or she could do a light blue with bright gold. I picture blue/purplish hydrangeas with yellow tulips and/or roses.

Women putting down women isn't cool. It's a reasonable thing to bring up and it's good to be cautious. She wasn't going to stop trying for her own child just because of someone's wedding, so she could end up pregnant, and altering dresses to be bigger is an extra expense she planned to avoid. It's also reasonable she wants to be comfortable in it, which isn't as easy for a girl of her size. None of the girls could relate to that struggle, they only ended up compromising with her in order to "appease Robyn's demands" without caring to notice they were pretty fair requests.

I would love for Luke to make a video about what makes a GOOD bridesmaid dress. I’ve never seen one that wasn’t just a blah block of an unpleasant color. Someone with an eye for style presenting better ways to go about it would be interesting to see.
I know now a few brides that just choose the color, length of the skirt and fabric (chiffon or satin) for their bridesmaids and the store and every bridesmaid could choose the best fitting gown. And it looks great and everyone is feeling happy. Its not necessary that they wear the same design.
Exactly! I think this works the best. Everyone is as comfortable as one can be at a wedding. It photographs well, too, as everyone is in their most flattering top (ideally).

okay but as a girl who had big boobs (shout out to breast reductions!!) id be in the same boat as robin when it comes to a hard no on strapless stuff. like i tried some of the best strapless bras and it just wasnt happening. the boobs also look horrible when they are being held up that high when they shouldnt be lmao
Also like if you do find a strapless bra (or even a regular bras for that matter) it has to be insanely tight to hold the girls up, but then that leads to bra bulge and your back ends up looking like Michelin man :(

I like this idea! It would be good to see some examples of a bridesmaid dress that compliments the gown, or different ways the wedding colours can be brought in.

I had a deep emerald green for my wedding and LOVED it. My maid of honor and matron of honor were in a mint green color and the bridesmaids were in emerald green. I found it gorgeous especially for a fall wedding

I'm having a custom empire waisted tudor style dress for cosplays/rennaisance faires and what you said about those dresses where you leave them to the regency era was correct, id never be caught dead outside of a cosplay in an empire waist, not flattering! lol
You need to be tall and busty, and the outfit must fit well. Otherwise, you look like you're running around in a nightgown.
On the other hand, I have a body type that is really flattering in an empire waist and I can never find them 😢

What’s with those “themes” of several clashing colours in one dress? You can have several colours in your decoration and still keep the bridesmaids in one colour. They’re not at the circus.

When I worked as a bridal consultant I would sell the gown from the second bride very often, it had an ombré option that looked better than just the solid ivory (usually worn with cowboy boots).

Thank you for pointing out that top heavy girls NEED to have a strap top of some kind to be secure. My sister in law asked me to be a bridesmaid and I did say that to her that due to my large breasts I would struggle with the strapless dress she wanted me to wear. She ignored me and brought it anyway. My bra would not stay up no matter what I tried. So i ended up folding over duck tap and sticking it to me skin so I didn't expose myself during the wedding. they were all also corset lace upbacks. Which no one knew how to do up except me so I ended up doing all the girls dresses then talking them through doing mind which they did wrong and so the cheap "boning" (it didn't work at all) snapped on mind and started to poke into my side. I got hella drunk after the service and changed out once all photos were done.

It’s funny cuz my brother is getting married in a week and their colors are also blue and yellow. They’re getting married at the botanical gardens though so it works really nicely. (And the bridal party does not have to wear yellow).

That raspberry/lime wedding nightmare triggered all the horrible dresses I had to buy to be a bunch of Southern weddings in the early 2010s... it was a dark time, and I knew it was bad even in the moment. At least the trend of same color/different styles was in by that point, so I at least did not have to worry about strapless chiffon dresses trying to hold in my chest

When my sister got married she chose the bridesmaids dresses from a collection that had five slightly different styles. The skirt parts were all the same but each bodice was different ranging from strapless to full thick straps. That way we could all choose which style we liked the best and they still looked cohesive. I still have mine and both I and my cousin who is the same size have been able to wear it to other functions because it's just a fancy knee length dress.
In case anyone else was wondering why all the fashions are so dated, this aired in 2012 and was likely filmed in 2011.
I mean... they were already out of style back then, but we've already established that a lot of these Southern girls cling to trends long after the rest of the country has ditched them!

Why do all these colours need to be so saturated?? Like yellow and blue can be nice together, when you're not trying to emulate the flag of Sweden. A naval blue with pale yellow accents could have been great, but for some reason we have to go with eye-searing lol.

For maybe 5 minutes, it seemed like brides were "allowing" their attendants to pick out their own dresses just keep to one color palette or maybe one length and/or solid not patterned. That was a nice 5 minutes.
I have D's so like not even that crazy big but they are droopy as hell with zero perk whatsoever. So strapless bras just dont work for me sadly, like the bra literally flops forward and the my boobs spill out. Even regular bras its hard to keep them up and looking nice, like i need racer back straps to keep them up.

I've commented it on these videos before and I'll keep saying it....
If a bride loves her bridesmaids, then she should want them to be comfy and feel good about themselves, and if the bridesmaids love the bride, then they should want to support her vision and be there for her on a day that is very special to her. If that means wearing a dress for a few hours that isn't their personal style, then they should just do it. who does it hurt? there are reasonable concerns like modesty, breast support, maternity dress options, expected weather issues (heavy material for an outdoor summer wedding is a big NO), and styles that may restrict the body or interfere with a disability.

luke i love these videos but in almost every one you say something like “wait that dress isn’t the correct color!!” and i have to tell you that a lot of the time at bridal stores they don’t have all dress styles/sizes in every color it’s offered in. so they’re usually just trying on the dresses to see the style and fabric and they can order them in the correct color once they decide 😭😂

Luke, that is hilarious. So all these videos where he's been talking about the COLOR of the dresses, I thought he was just identifying to the audience which dress he was discussing. But instead - all this time - he thought the wedding party was considering the actual colors the gals were trying on. So he thought, even though the bride said she wanted black/blue/whatever color dresses, that they were now considering pink, green, champagne, etc. THAT is funny. Glad your viewers straightened you out!

I kind of hate the attitude of 'it's her wedding, you should just wear what the bride wants' when it comes to bridesmaid dresses. Like yeah, it IS her wedding and sometimes she even pays for the dresses, but the bride isn't the one who has to wear the dress. Bridesmaids should not be forced into something that they absolutely hate or makes them feel ugly. I agree they shouldn't have to love the dress, but bridesmaids' opinions should at least be considered

Luke - ugh. As a bridesmaid who has had to wear my share of strapless dresse , I can tell you that these girls have to dance and flirt and eat and laugh hysterically all night in these dresses - in a strapless dress they'll all have to be constantly self-conscious about how they're moving to avoid wardrobe mishaps. Bridesmaids dresses are always better with straps. The one shoulder one was perfect for bride #2's gals.

Apparently nobody in that room has ever seen a raspberry in their lives. The dress the „I don’t like purple“ woman is wearing actually veers close to what I think of as raspberry. Also, love a bride who can change her „vision“ when it turns out to be awful in reality.

I'm always baffled by the problems this topic brings up in the US.
Where I live, the bride doesn't choose the bridesmaid's (singular bridesmaid) dress. In fact, everyone chooses their own wardrobe unless (in very few cases) there is a motto but that's rare and even then you get to choose within the motto and within the "how formal does it need to be?" area.
Covering up tattoos, requiring to dye hair, lose weight, minimum height of heel, etc just wouldn't fly and would get the bride into serious "no one is coming to the wedding" territory.

My friend was 30 and her husband was 40 when they got married. He had lots of friends and had been in 19 weddings. His only requirement for the wedding was to have all 19 men as groomsmen. So she had to have 19 bridesmaids. It was an evening wedding and she had the bridesmaids wear black cocktail dresses of their choice. Easy peasy and the dresses could be worn after.
