The Getaway and it's sequel are two of the more underrated yet still amazing PlayStation 2 titles. I would really like to be able to play them again on a newer system.
The last two cars are actually Aston Martin V8 Vantage, which was cut from the game because they didn't manage to negotiate a license for it. This was explained by the game's vehicle designer on his youtube channel.
I remember seeing a video on this a long time ago and finding many of these cars thanks to it! I believe Official PlayStation Magazine covered it in one of their issues?

Strange spoiler on the R33.... that's like a R34 GT-T's. Did the game have actual licensed cars, or just very very close copies? I don't know much about the series.
Actual licensed cars, though I wonder if there were any R33 coupes that came without a spoiler, or had that low-profile ducktail that's on the in-game car at 3:49.

Hey matt can you do some comparison videos from real life to the games like of locations of the cars and the art gallery and all notable places we know about in the game, I want to do it myself but I don't really get out much and don't remember London map as well as I used to when I played this a long time ago
Man, when this dropped and I rented it from the action video, I was 15. And had no idea why I kept failing the first mission, cause not understanding the blinkers are your friend 😄😄😄😄 still own both copies, and enjoy sitting back on a weekend and playing these gems 💎
I actually liked how it didn't have a map. It made me learn the streets of London. I will admit though that implementing a turn signal system in your game like a compass just messes up everything. Instead, they should have made it more like a GPS system where the turn signals will tell you the quickest way to get to your destination without sending you down one way streets and dead ends. I remember the Peugeot 306 having other colours. Maybe cause I had the American version?
I think it could work better if there were more slower paced missions in between, which encourage exploration. The idea of learning the map is cool until you are dropped in a middle of a car chase with a time limit right at the beginning of the game (the biggest flaw in my opinion, the time limit of the missions can get pretty strict).
the front of the last car is clearly based on a 77-93 V8 vantage. not american muscle by any means. you didnt show the rear though so i assume its some kinda hybrid between that and a maserati coupe then.
Sorry but you can't call a triangle an arrow, a triangle is three arrows in itself and your triangles are so big they point at 3 distinct locations at the same time. Otherwise it's an awesome video.
@Brett Sharkey: Of course it’s a good game (as is Black Monday). Incredible soundtrack, great storyline, voice acting, believable map, good vehicles…the list goes on. Apart from being able to find hidden cars, however, the free roaming mode is probably the weakest aspect of the game. It’s simply not as engaging as GTA.

You can do free roam with yasmin from mission 8 onwards, kill pedestrians, get into high speed chases with police and rival gangs, blow up civilian cars, hold people hostage and kill them, satisfying headshots, batter people down Buckingham palace park walkways with a police baton.. mow people down on the sidewalk, drive buses! The list is endless. I love free roaming with yasmin as my ally killing all the police and trying to survive xD
@@brandonhealy7158: Yes, I'm aware that those things are possible to do-I didn't claim that they weren't. My point still stands, however: the free roam mode is pretty dull compared to GTA. Just look at the interactive options in a game like San Andreas compared to The Getaway. There's way more features of interest than just running down pedestrians.
The game was fun, but no map sucked ass. If someone hits the car you'll have to get another one because the fucking blinker would break. R33 Skylines are the lest famous model, that's why the R34 went back to the older model(R32)
I don't want to be that guy, but this game is just awful in my opinion. There's no in game map so you can't tell where the fuck you're going and turn signal lights aren't a very good guide to tell you where to go. I spent three hours trying to figure out where the damned destination is. The health system isn't what bothers me. In fact I think this is the first game initialize regenerating health which is pretty revolutionary. But you still die pretty quickly because there's no aiming reticle and you can't tell what the fuck you're aiming at, but the AI has almost perfect aim. Don't get me wrong, this game is pretty ambitious, and believe this is the very first open world game to have actual licensed cars (And pretty much the only one I know) and they're well detailed just like Gran Turismo 3 which both came out at around the same time. I get they were going for realism but it lacking all the features I mentioned makes it extremely frustrating and at times almost unfair. I don't like the second game, either but it's not as bad and not nearly as frustrating and difficult. Maybe if I watch a let's play I could give the series another shot.
You should watch a let’s play. I couldn’t get through the game without a let’s play either. It’s a punishing and unforgiving game, but once you can get through it, it’s so fun, and the free roam with yasmin is so worth it

The white lotus did get built its now known as the Lotus Evora
I think they're similar and the Evora most likely evolved from the M250 Concept Car, but they're not exactly the same.

I agree, the game could have been a lot better in general, though it's still fun to play.

I thought the same thing, but the shapes aren't right; the in-game car is too short and wide to be the Vantage.
