This was a bloody good video, with content this solid you are bound to grow by 10 times a year from now
Hey Vinayaka, thanks for the encouragement and your words mean a lot. ✌🏻
Agreed....
I've been watching the videos of this channel one by one. I've ear marked videos to watch when I'm resting during my chennai - hyderabad solo trip. Pure soulful conversations between hard-core experienced riders. I love the purity of conversations. No music. No Jazz. No transitions. A minimalistic background and pure soulful conversations. Love it. Just love listening to you guys ❤
Thank you for all the good words. 🙏🏻
I don't see a reason why this channel has so less subscribers, for the quality of content is seriously fab!
Thank you Mrinal
We are simple people. We only out real stories. No drama. ✌🏻
Thanks for the video and I always go for the white colour because of two main reasons, one is that it can be visible from a good distance and another is it absorbs less heat during compared to black.
I admire you two for providing some crucial information for those who don't know that helmets are more just something to wear to meet a legal requirement, but I'd like to add a few points.
First off, if a helmet is manufactured to adhere to only DOT certification, then it's not a safe helmet. Unless it's an Arai or Shoei, DOT certification is practically the same as ISI certification. It's outdated and it is the onus of the manufacturer themselves to test it for DOT certification. ECE, SNELL, and FIM, on the other hand, do the tests independently and deem it fit to meet their standards and though they have their flaws and shortcomings, these standards are far better and more modern than present-day DOT standards. So helmets that have DOT and ECE/SNELL/FIM certification is much better than one with just a DOT certification.
Another area of interest for safety certification would be the SHARP organisation in the UK. They do independent tests themselves and use a one-to-five star rating system. You could say it's one way of saying that 'X helmet is much safer than Y helmet became it's has a four-star SHARP rating compared to the three-star that Y helmet has', but the reality is that the only to truly test helmets is to put it to use out on the road and nobody in their right mind would do that (I hope).
There is that old adage, "$10 helmet for a $10 head", but honestly we can't say that for Indians. While I do understand that big name helmets like AGV, HJC, Bell,, Scorpion, and Arai and Shoei at the top of the ladder are vastly better than Indian brand helmets like Studds, Steelbird, and Vega, you can't really expect a beginner rider to shell out that kind of money for those helmets.
However, these days, I'm seeing more and more youngsters moving towards Rs.5000+ MT, Axor, LS2, and even Rs. 13,500+ AGV helmets. Surprised me a bit when I saw a lady on her scooter with an AGV K1 in the Winter Test colour scheme (though I heard from a well-known motorcycle gear retailer here in the south that they had customers who had their AGV K1 helmets replaced under warranty because the helmet's shell had visible cracks out of the box). There are still those that won't care for it (usually older and more aged riders, in my view) who wear a helmet to only satisfy the law necessitating it, wearing their sub-Rs.800 road-side shitbuckets with broken visors or the visor flipped up to the back of their neck. They either go on without any accidents in their lifetime or they learn the hard way why they need better helmets.
There's also a dumb 'social stigma' of sorts when buying an 'unusually' expensive helmet. I ride a Triumph Street Scrambler and bought an MT Thunder 3 SV (after months of deciding between AGV K1/K3, Bell Qualifier/MX-9/MOTO-3 and some Airoh helmets) and one of my relatives laughed when I said it wasn't ISI certified but rather met European standards with ECE.
On ear protection, I agree that wearing earphones is a dumb idea since the noise-cancellation would hinder a rider's awareness and of course, like you said, would be disastrous if the rider hit the sides of their head in an accident, but there are earplugs meant for motorcycle-use because motorcycle riders generally suffer from permanent hearing loss later on in life if they're ride continuously. I plan on getting a set myself as my MT helmet, though for Rs. 6,600 with a four-star SHARP rating and a sunvisor is a very good value-for-money helmet that vents well and is comfortable to wear, it's horrendously noisy past 80kmph and up. I'm hoping a set of earplugs would help with that. It's not very expensive either with most plugs going for Rs.2000-Rs.3000 a set for reusable earplugs. They even aid in better hearing for your bluetooth comms since you hear less of your surroundings and more from your speakers.
Lastly, all the safety ratings and rigourous testing is pointless if a rider doesn't wear a helmet that fits their head size and shape.
On a closing note, I'd like to add that the real problem for most that look for these big brand name helmets isn't just the price itself, but availability in physical stores. If I wanted a Shoei RF-1200 (I'd like an EX-ZERO though) or an HJC RPHA 11 like yours, I'd have to take myself across the country to try these helmets on to see if they fit my head size and shape. Yea, there's size charts and cloth-tape measures, but it only does so much. Dropping a lot of money on a helmet and finding out it doesn't fit me proper is my biggest concern when buying it from online stores like HNP, MotoFlux, Store4Riders, SPG, etc.
Well, I guess 'a few points' was an understatement (hehe), but honestly, I appreciate you two for bringing more awareness to the better helmets out there for the general public in India.
Fantastic note. Loved it and a big thank you.
Awesome videos, it's great to see you guys sharing such valuable inputs and rich experience on proper headgear whilst motorcycling. Kudos guys.
This is such an awesome video. All info was to the point and very well described. You guys should definitely bring more content like this. Way to go, guys!
Amazing video guys. Informative and entertaining.
I personally started off with HJC CS-15, snug fit , a bit noisy but safe. A little on uncomfortable side. I paid approx 6800 for it.
Then moved to Shark’s Speed R 2. Extremely comfortable, very good noise isolation, safe enough, and nice field of vision. That is my best bet for touring.
Thanks 😊 for watching
Hi. Where did you buy the shark speed R2 from? And what was the price?
I have been using a 2300 rupees steelbird my entire 10 yrs of touring I have been both comfortable and safe
Thank you to both - extremely informative and helpful, I would have otherwise read 1000’s pages to have basic understanding for the helmets, very well summarised
Great Video guys 👍🏾 Very Helpful
Thanks 😊 for watching ✌🏻
what a discussion...very informative and helpful video...make more and more such type of video's...
Thanks for watching. Please check the channel there more such discussions 😊
Fabulous video without any kind of bias for any brand
Maybe as a viewer I'm addicted to quality well lit videos.. please improve key lighting.. this video looks like I'm watching a batman movie🤗 keep up the good work like always👍👏
Duly noted buddy. Thanks for watching 😊
Great Video. Can you throw some light on Dual Sport helmets as well (Adventure touring / Trail Riding) in upcoming videos..
What about the MT or SMK helmets. It is both DOT and ECE compliant.
They are good too as per the price. You can go ahead and buy them
Hi, wouldnt you suggest to use SENA Momentum Helmet with integrated Bluetooth System?
Do they suffice on safety and functionality?
Hi yes. The momentum meets safety standards. But not sure of the fit. Must try a helmet before buying
Where could I get a pinlock anti fog click for the bell qualifier?
Hi from pinlock.com or one option here in India www.weepro-in.com
Please do suggest how I mean how good MT Helmets are my price range is 5000-6000 rupees.
Best in that budget, go for it.
..... Do a review abt. " TVS Racings gears".......
Will do so, asap. BTW we still haven’t seen it in gear shops or come across riders wearing tvs gear in NCR. Will figure.
Out of Ls2 storm or Bell Qualifier which one is good sir 🤔
Bell Qualifier
Please use a front light. Would help in the video
Hey, thanks for the feedback. The idea was to give it a secret bunker kind of look but perhaps its not working well with the viewers. 😊
Absolutely Sumit thanx man 🌹
Somehow i feel Rpha 70 st makes more sense over Rpha 11 for touring
Kz it has extra sunvisor for sunny rides, where as u hav to keep changing the visor in rpha 11 day and night
Yes you are right because RPHA 70 is a sport touring helmet and 11 is a track helmet, thats the reason the latter does not have a sun visor.
I face problem of dry eyes even with just 1hr of riding. Is there anything specific that I need to look in the helmet that mitigates this to some extent?
Hi PLs get a full face helmet. And if u have vents near ur eyes. Then see as per comfort if u can close them. Also on our long rides Ashish carries refresh tears eye drops and washes his eyes as often as possible.
Loved when he said "So this is mine" 😂
😊
Very informative👌
Thanks 😊 for watching
Sir what about studd and steelbird are they not safe or heavier
I have HJC Axor & steel bird as well, I will try to put some differences
.
1, Weight, steelbirds are lighter compared to Axor about 1200gm, all DOT & ECE will be approx 1300~1600gm unless you opt very expensive helmets range but thats due to better build quality.
.
2, Material used : steelbirds polycarb i guess, my hjc is made up of Fibreglass & as you go towards more expensive helmets you can opt carbon fibre built as well.
.
3, Aerodynamics : after 100kmph steelbird starts wobbling, they aren't built for high speeds yes you can ride with it, but oncey you use premium helmets you will clearly feel the difference in aerodynamics & in windnoise as well
.
4. Windnoise : premium helmets are silent compared to basic steelbird
.
5. Ventilation : Yes basic helmets also comes with ventilation, but when I am riding with HJC I can feel the breeze !
.
6, Paddings are removable washable on premiums, but not on basics although few models which costs 3k+ of steelbirds or vega etc are having removable paddings
.
7, You can get model specific accecessories like visors paddings antifog inserts etc. to keep your helmets always in new condition if you opt for premium helmet.
8, QUALITY differences as well.
.
I hope this helps :D
Sorry for the noob query, but is a “roomy” helmet safe? Wouldn’t a non snug fit hamper the effectiveness of the helmet in case of a crash?
Yes, the helmet should be snug fit for all the right reasons.
Amazing video guys, loves it!!❤️
Thanks 😊
can you review a bell mx9 MIPS
and dual sport helmet vs full-face helmet
Hey Kartik. We did look some dual sport helmet and almost bought the scorpion one. Dual sport helmets offer great field of vision, ventilation and versatility. However what will you bike mostly do ? Off or on road ? Dual sports helmets are great for off road n lower speeds. On the highway the aerodynamics are not that great. You will find the weight more due to highway speeds and also the noise due to more ventilation. So honestly A dual sport helmet is ideal if u do 70/30 - off road / highway else always better to have diff helmets. Or be able with the increased noise and ventilation. A team member rides an Arai Dx 4 and he loves it but then it’s a super pricy helmet. Finally it really depends on use of bike. Bell Mx9 is safe as houses albeit a bit heavy. Also look at the scorpion dual helmet and decide upon the key Q. Is ur bike primarily going to be used for off / on road. Hope we answered your query. 😊
@@happinessperkm thanks
@@happinessperkm Scorpion DX-1 is great value for money deal and it has 5 star sharp rating...on the other hand it's competitor Schuberth E1 has 3 star rmsharp rating and its way expensive.
Yes the Scorpion indeed is a great value proposition but the wind noise dampening is far better in the Schuberth, in fact any model.
SHARP rating is intended to be indicative of a helmet’s ability to manage energy. SHARP is intended as an impact rating enhancement to the ECE 22.05 standard. The Schuberth C3 is also ECE 22.05 certified and 3 stars over it makes it pretty much safe and impact resistant.
@@happinessperkm yes sir, i'm in love with Schuberth E1, went trough all review done by European riders, it gets fantabulous thumbs up but only down sidr i feel is its 3 time costlier to Scorpion ADX 1
So Caberg Tourmax and Scorpion ADX 1 is in my bucket list
Super video guys..love it.
Thanks for watching buddy 🤗
👍 worth and great to watch
thank you
Hey guys, thanks for the info but is the qualifier quiet?
It’s average. You want a quieter helmet go for Bell SRT
Thanks!
Please advise. How good and safe is LS-2 Storm Helmet and cost Rs 9,500/-
Hi we haven’t used it so won’t be fair to comment. But LS2 has built a reputation for being good helmets.
10:15👍👍 nailed it
Vry useful. .... Thank you
Thank you for watching
Lovely video, full of information!
Please don't recommend Sena in your next video 😂😁
Check out the Airoh Valor as well, a beautiful entry level helmet 1400gm and ECE rated.
@Tushar ! Knew it 😁
Thanks. Great information. Can you suggest a affordable Snell certified helmet. Also please make a detailed video about riding jackets. Riding pants/knee pads, gloves and shoes.
Thanks for the encouraging words. 🙏🏻
This video is a part of a series called “touring essentials” and these are being aired every tuesday. Stay subscribed 😊
HJC CL16 is a great helmet that you can look out for
@@happinessperkm I checked the helmet looks good only issue is weight is 2.2 kgs too heavy. How is Bell qualifier and fly Revolt (13.5k) but specifications looks good.
Thanks for nice review, I am looking for buying BELL MIPS with the protint visor, would this helmet be worth investing? Also, Kindly do review Bell Race star helmet too
Hi yes the MIPS is a great buy. Do try the Scorpion as well before you buy. And now RE is making some nice helmets too
@@happinessperkm Thanks for the Sweet suggestion
😊✌🏻
Hey nice video.. but want to correct you on one helmet. The bell one is qualifier DLX blackout matte helmet, which is different from the qualifier which does not have an air vent right above the visor which can be seen in your video. 😊
Secondly this helmet cost around 12500
yes buddy you are right, it is the DLX variant 😊. its so amazing that the qualifier series has a wide range of pricing starting at 9k
happinessperkm yes 💯.. I’m not able to get hand on this helmet in size M.
Superb video... was expecting a review if modular helmets are as safe as the full face or a little compromise for the comfort?
Hey Harsh. Modular helmets are yes very comfy but are heavier than full face and not always rated as safe as full face helmets. We will try and get a specific review out soon. Thanks for watching
what about carbon fibre helmets...???
If one can afford the steep pricing then they are the best thing to put on your head.
@@happinessperkm please suggest me from where I should buy, my budget is max 25k
You won’t find any Carbon fibre helmet in that budget.
@@happinessperkm There are some..
1 Caberg evo carbon
2 mt rapide pro
3 smk titan
4 Axor rage
How about Suomy helmet’s ?
Never used them so can’t say.
An informative videos
Why not talk about the shape of shells.
Indian heads are round and many helmets available are oval.
Bell is round shell and some japanese brands are also round.
Most American and European brands are oval
One of my pet peeves is when people who ride two wheelers and don't use their rear view mirrors. Since, we are considering safety here, this is one major careless behaviour I have noticed amongst riders and they are many in number in several cities across India.
D rings are safer.
👍✌...
🌹🌹🌹🌹
Motorcycling, an elitist hobby? What about the poor old indian helmet brands?, You should have atleast said they are not good, rather than ignoring them completely.
Well, we have covered the gear that we own and use in real time. If you have a piece to share on using indian make helmets, please share with Berry at sumit@happinessperkm.com and we promise we will share it on our handles and website.
Sumit you helmet's price is my Annual CTC.
😆👌🏻
They calling a helmet a gear
Ok so what do you want us to call it?
@@happinessperkm helmet
Yes as a matter of fact, helmet is part of your riding gear.
