      Samsung Quatro, a $3300 paper weight..And they did not back up a clear warranty design defect. Replaced with LG 30cu ft, Not a 3 ice balls a day craft ice..just a basic model with dual icemaker(love it), and it actually had a compressor go out in the fist month, and they fixed zero charge, and for 6 years , NO ISSUES.

    • @stevieg6418
      @stevieg6418 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@toddie4usa1 Apparently the ice maker on Samsung has a known fault but I do not know if they are actually fixing the problem at the factory. You just need to call them out to fix and they replace the electronic board for the ice maker. Also do change the filter to a new filter than the one your fridge came with - sometimes that could be a dud too. It is a shame these days it seems no matter what brand you get paying 1000's doesn't guarantee quality or reliability

    Only way to make clear ice is directional freezing. That's why the freezing process is that slow - no way around it without having a special freezing contact surface like a professional ice making setup. Just have to expose half the sphere to freezer temp more than the other half. Would love to hear from LG about which direction they are freezing from: 1) insulate the top, but leave an air gap in the mold (hence the slightly flat sided spheres in this video), and let it freeze bottom up? Or 2) leave the top open, freeze top down, but kick the cube along with a splash of water (containing the impurities) before freezing is complete. Without knowing which, I wouldn't trust this could make clear ice consistently.

  • @dixie600mhz
    @dixie600mhz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    We have LG LRMDC2306S. During first month we’ve had 4 service visits for craft ice maker not working. Each service call reveals the water feed line to the ice maker is frozen solid although the freezer temp is set at +4F. We added two thermometers into the freezer that log temp and they both show 4F so temp sensor is good. Does the craft ice maker line have a heater/defrost? Latest tech wants to switch out water feed line but by this point we have zero confidence LG know how to build a fridge.

      @@CP-py5gp Yup - and if it had the capacity we needed I'd be good. It doesn't.
      Since there is already a second ice maker it would be nice if you could swap out the novel but impractical craft icemaker when you could use twice the capacity.

    • @CP-py5gp
      @CP-py5gp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DocNo27, so the ice maker in the door that is like all other refrigerators doesn't make enough ice for you? Is there any refrigerator on the market that has two ice makers besides this one? That would be nice but I haven't ever heard of one besides this one.

    • @DocNo27
      @DocNo27 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CP-py5gp yes there are others - every manufacturer offers at least two or three models with two, actually. Bought this fridge for just about everything else other than the second ice maker - it would just be nice to have a choice. Good news is even if no officially supported it does look like you can swap it - if the ice makers ever come in stock.

    • @DocNo27
      @DocNo27 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CP-py5gp Don't get me wrong - I love the in the door ice maker on the LG - it free's up a ton of space in the fridge. The trade off is the ice bin is at least half the size - on top of the icemaker itself not churning out as much ice it can be an issue, especially in the summer. Which is why if the ice maker in the freezer could pick up the slack it would be a welcome bonus. At three cubes a day the craft icemaker is just not that useful if you have a family that consumes a lot of ice.

    Wouldn’t these be easier for a child to choke on once they’ve melted down a bit. Seems to me being primarily round In shape, it would perfectly close off the wind pipe. At about the age of seven my brother had an ice cube lodged in his throat. It was rectangular so it did not totally cut off his air supply, he was fine after my father dislodged it. Have also heard many stories of dogs choking on round objects. Hate to sound negative but I would be carful with these especially with children.
